My experience here was absolutely horrible..I had an appointment for my bearded dragon 8/29. My boyfriend and I waited about 15 minutes until we were actually seen..but that was to be expected. Once we got into our room, we were asked questions about what was wrong with terrian. Answered to the best of our knowledge, told the tech aid our research that we have done on MBD and gout for bearded dragons. She was very sweet, although ...when Joy Lucas came into the room..sadly she wasnt pleasant at all.. She didnt introduce herself , nor achnowledge our presence..Actually she was nothing but, arrogant and condescending.. She not once listened to what we had to say, nor educate us on MBD or gout..although we have done extensive research on both ..it would have been nice considering shes a vet.. When she " exammed" terrian, (which was lift his legs a bit) she concluded that it was MBD( metabolic bone disease).. Said nothing else and walked right out of the exam room..which her time in the room consisted of about 5 minutes in total.. After that her polite aid came back into the room and handed me and my boyfriend this huge bill.. 54 $ for an exam that took 5 minutes ! And then insisted that terrian needed an X-ray.. We had questions for Lucas, about the X-ray ..instead of actually coming back into the exam room, she just had her aid be the middle man and answer for her.. Nothing but rude.. Me and my boy friend have 9 reptiles.. I can say, we WILL never give her any of our business.. Nor will I EVER recommend her to a friend..

We took our rabbit here to see Joy back in January 2016 when her head started tilting. After months of attempting to resolve the problem, it only got worse and the rabbit was basically confined to her cage although she could still eat and drink. We asked about putting the rabbit down but Joy assured us the bunny was not in pain so this was not necessary. We kept bringing her back to ask about this as, to the just about anyone, the rabbits quality of life did not seem worthwhile but Joy insisted she was perfectly fine, just a head tilt was present. After speaking with a new vet recently to get a 2nd opinion, it turns out that the rabbit also has a skin infection that was present during our time with Joy that she did not diagnose (rabbits had the infection for over a year and Joy missed it during multiple visits). Our new vet was also very hands on with the rabbit, taking samples from her ear, checks or her stomach, etc. Joy did not do any of this during the visits. I would seek 2nd opinions if you take your pet here, or at least see a different vet. Joy Lucas does not really care about your pet at all and in my opinion is a crook.

There are reviews here from a few years ago that say Upstate Animal Medical Center is expensive and the people are unfriendly. Those people must be bitter or things must have changed because this place is amazing. The staff is very friendly, the wait times are nothing compared to other vets and to doctors Ive been to. And the prices are just awesome. Over the last few months, theyve seen all three of our ferrets. Heres a list of what they did: Bear: -office visit -ultrasound -splenectomy -hospitalization -overnight stay -steroid medication Sadi: -office visit -hormone implant -melatonin implant Buddi: -office visit -x-ray -hospitalization -fluids (x2) -overnight stay (x2) -barium -diagnostic x-ray -three different medications Dr. Lucas saved two of their lives and brought the other one back to health. And it was all under $2,500. That is an absolutely incredible price for the amount of care they gave our ferrets. Dr. Lucas is so passionate about what she does and she cares deeply for these animals. I would strongly recommend Upstate Animal Medical Center. You wont regret it.

We took our dog here for several years. They were fine for the routine check up, although we sometimes waited as long as 45 minutes and the Vet never spent more than 15 minutes with us. However, the low rating is due to the fact that when our dog became ill she was completely mistreated. We went through weeks of leaving messages and no one calling us back. When we explained that the medicine they prescribed was upsetting her stomach, Dr. Lucas was extremely dismissive and told us we were wrong. She spent very little time diagnosing the problem and offered us no options. We eventually switched Vets, discovered our dog had cancer not hypothyroidism, and wholeheartedly regret not leaving sooner.

If I could rate this 0 stars, I would! My friend (who, by the way is a vet tech) called since her chicken seems to have some necrotic tissue on her head. Well one of the vet techs (a woman, not sure what her name was) came on the phone and was right away absolutely rude and disrespectful. She just needed to know what is safe to use on her chicken temporarily (NOT looking for a prescription over the phone) and she was told that was illegal and she "should know better that we cant give prescriptions over the phone since youre a vet tech". That was absolutely unnecessary and disrespectful and I am disappointed in how she was treated as a potential client.
