I stayed here for a month. Half my time here was difficult (1 star), but the other half was better (3 or 4 stars) once they got the hang of things. Inside aesthetics were poor & a bad smell permeated the area. The worst part was when I was telling them my bed smelled like urine. I stated this consistently throughout my 4 weeks there. They responded saying that theyd been wiping down the beds every time I had an accident. The day I discharged I had a family member lift the cover on the bed (which was removable & the staff kept saying it was being properly cleaned) & it was soiled from top to bottom with urine (my bladder control was poor & I peed the bed frequently), not having been cleaned once the 4 weeks I was there. Once, because I couldnt get them to put railings on my bed, I was hanging onto the edge of the bed trying to keep myself from falling completely off. My weakness was such that I didnt have the strength to get back into the bed or get myself to a position where I could press the call light. I was stuck in that position for around an hour before someone came in & assisted me. Some of the staff were excellent, but some were horrific. I was treated rudely at times when I asked for only female staff. Due to assaults from males when I was a child, it is very difficult for me to have male staff help me when I am in a vulnerable state. Some of the males took it personally, saying things like, "She just doesnt like me," & inisiting they could help. That my request was unreasonable. I asked for them not to use foul language in front of me (in my room) & was mocked for the request (they made fun of me outside in the hall where I could clearly hear them) & the profanity actually increased. The food service was poor initially, but kept getting items that contained allergens that I could not eat. The chef was an incredible person, but it seems the communication was poor. Therapy staff is excellent, but this is not a good facility for patients needing therapy because the therapy staff to patient ratio is so poor that its hard to get an appropriate amount. Therapy has a a machine that Ive never seen anywhere else – a sort of anti-gravity treadmill that is excellent for patients with difficulty walking. The showering rooms are very nice. The outside garden areas are beautiful & had lots of butterflies & beautiful birds. Especially in the early mornings. The Director of Nursing ended up being very kind & became a good advocate for me in the end.

The care I received here was okay at best there is very little for the residents to do in the way of recreation time aside from bingo. At one point I needed wound care and the wound nurse there was great but at times she seemed frustrated with the doctors in getting to get her diagnosis in at times, at times I felt bad that some of the patients are left in the hallways with nothing to do ,perhaps they may have had dementia but still some type of stimulation would have been Good! Heres the thing that bothered me,I caught a CNA not using any gloves! And he was handling body fluids and other things that Im sure required gloves, that too me was just disgusting! Imagine if he was to spread a more contagious type of disease to the other patients? I felt that the training and supervision of some cnas was lacking, seemed like they are constantly arguing over who was doing what! Team work would have seemed more the answer but over all what I did like the most was I was treated like family to the staff there and made to feel comfortable! I dont know about the other residents but I was treated with respect and kindness.Btw the physical therapy there was great! They helped me with my strength and I became stronger everyday. I Would recommend this facility to friends and family Suggestion to staff, please add more activities besides bingo and singing, perhaps a field trip to a museum or a movie night, or horseshoes would be great! Thank you!

My wifes mother was transferred into this facility on a Monday. My wife called several times a day for several days trying to track her Mother down. Each time they would transfer her call to an empty room where the phone just rang. No matter what she asked, they would just transfer her call to an unanswered extension. Eventually I called on Friday and (after getting hung up on once by "Billie Jo") found out that she had been transferred out of the facility on Thursday. She had called 4 times on Friday alone, and, they had continued to give my wife the same runaround--after her mother had been transferred. I asked to be transferred to a supervisor and got another unanswered extension. This place is apparently tremendously unprofessional to the point where Im ready to contact the licensing board.

According to my sister the care given to my mother by this establishment was good. The real problem is the payment/refund end. I had to pay one month up front for my mothers stay. This was expected immediately. I paid. Now virtually 2 months after my mothers passing I still have not received the refund for the amount not used. This amount is over 2/3 rds of the amount fronted originally. This type of foot dragging by the company is totally inexcusable. Hope you dont need to use the money you have to front any time soon.

Desert Blossom really blossoms with caring and altruistic staff and management. The administrator and the DON are good listeners. Very clean environment. Good people, good care, good environment.

Constantly late with medication and treatments. Rooms are double occupancy and very small. Absolutely no privacy. Food is worse than hospital. Terribly understaffed but staff is friendly.

My grandmother was in here and she hates the food there. When she presses the red button for help the nurse take too long! The nurses are nice though.
