Our family experience at Advanced Health Care of Scottsdale was so bad that we feel that we saved our 91 year old mothers life by taking her out of this facility after only 8 days. Hopefully this review will save you & your family the horror of what we went through. The facility looks just like a hotel when you come in. The person at the front desk, Alex, was very welcoming and showed us around. We explained to Alex why our mom was coming into the facility from the Mayo Clinic. Our moms condition was diagnosed as sciatica along with a bad case of RA in her hands. The 1st indication that something was wrong was when I received a frantic phone call from my mom. She was left alone in the bathroom and no one came to help her after she pressed the call button. It turns out that the bathroom seat was left down & not knowing that, she sat on the toilet and poop & urine went all over the place. She was mortified & humiliated. I then called the front desk to send someone there quick. It turns out that this is the standard way they took care of my mom. At 91 years old, my mom needs a shower, not only to get clean but as therapy to warm up her body so she can move freely. She was told she could only get 2 showers a week but again explained to them that she needs a shower before Physical Therapy so she can move & do her exercises. It was then decided by the facility that she would get a daily shower as long as an aid is available and that would count as Occupational Therapy. My mother was able to think and converse like an adult as well as walk with assistance when she left the hospital. By the time I took my mother out of rehab, she no longer was able to walk and was totally confused. The facility told me she was being released & I was shocked because she was worse off than when she was admitted to the rehab. The aids told my mother that she was a nuisance because she wanted to be rehabilitated not ignored. The most upsetting part of her stay, was that no one recognized that my mom showed signs of confusion & lack of mental acuity. Our only explanation was that she was ignored, and had she been properly cared for, the attending care givers & nurses should have seen this very rapid decline in both her mental and physical health.

Im torn with my review. The facility itself is great. My father was there recently for therapy and rehabilitation and most of the care was outstanding as far as physical therapy goes. The nursing staff and the doctor(s) give me great pause. In fact, the doctor, without our permission or without the permission of my fathers regular physician, changed my fathers medication which is as far as I know illegal (Im not a lawyer) not to mention VERY dangerous. In addition, my father is on very critical medication which keeps him alive and functioning and his "nurse" failed to provide him with his medication on several occasions. When the staff was confronted about these issues, they basically told my family it wasnt a big deal and treated us like dirt for questioning their ineptitude. Now that my father is in need of additional serious therapy after yet another severe surgery, the facility has REFUSED to take him based on the fact that they didnt like the fact that we questioned their medication procedures (or lack thereof) and their skills. And to top it all off, every facility they have (Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Kansas) REFUSED to provide their corporate office information (phone number, address, anything) claiming they "cant find it". ALL of their facilities claim this. What are they hiding? The only reason I would want my father to go back is because these types of facilities are few and far between and the therapists were wonderful and the facility itself is one of the only options where my family lives. Im so disappointed and disgusted that you have to have a 24-7 family advocate to watch nurses and doctors to ensure they are not giving a family member incorrect meds or treatment. What has this world come to when people dont take pride in their jobs or have true concern for another persons well-being? The nurses are rude and inept. The doctors are incompetent. If you value your family member, find another rehab center.

We had my grandmother go to Advanced Health Care of Scottsdale and learned that this is the most unprofessional place, it’s a complete joke. They have no idea what they are doing, they over medicate their patients and can’t even keep track of their patients. They beyond over medicated my grandmother. She was completely out of it, didn’t remember anything, was very aggressive, was not her sweet loving self at all. We continued to tell them that she isn’t herself and something is wrong! They completely ignored us continuously, and even told us she has Alzheimer’s!! No sorry, you do not just get acute Alzheimer’s in a week! What a joke! Come to find out that the doctor had prescribed her Valium, talk about making a sane person crazy! She was hallucinating out of her mind and they couldn’t figure out it was the valium? My family knew right away once we found out they were giving her valium. They even had us hire a home health person to come in their facility and take care of her at night (basically do their job.) So here we are paying all this money for extra care when they were the ones making her this way! My aunt who is a doctor found out that she was on valium and told the head nurse as medical power of attorney for my grandmother she wanted the valium stopped immediately. Did they stop it..... Nope! They told her they did and then continued to give it to her! You hope to have your loved ones in a place that they are being taken care of properly and this is not the place! Overall this place is a complete joke and I would NEVER send another person I know there!

At first everything was super nice..the nurses were eager, the front desk was immaculate..they treated my family well....they helped my 91 year old grandmother with her needs. Like the other reviews the facility is very nice and it does feel like a hotel not a rehab center. They have done very well making it look nice....but not all the staff are nice. Then it all went to poop, literally. When one of the nurses left her alone when she had to defecate...being 91, she doesnt have the mobility or capacity that you may have...so it went about as you would expect...That is when the nurse found her covered in feces on her legs, thighs and floor....My grandmother was so embarrassed she cried to me the next day. It was a moment I wont ever forget and I hope you will consider this story when placing an older family member into this location. I question the competency of the staff.

As a healthcare provider it was my first choice. The healing care and comfort provided to me after an Open Heart procedure was outstanding. Medical staff was A Team with every focus to include me and my family in the full and complete recovery. After five weeks I was ready to return home - with confidence. The Therapists were knowledgable, confident and willing. I will continue to recommend AHC of Scottsdale. The food and food service was a real plus - every meal. Dr. Terry Martin Scottsdale, AZ
