My scottish terrier was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease unexpectedly after finding her listless one morning and having accidents in the house. After a 4-5 day stay at a different vet hospital, I was referred to Pieper Memorial for their internal medicine doctor, Dr. Nelson, as my pup had lyme nephritis. It has a poor prognosis, especially for small dogs, but she was great in taking the time to go over everything with me and was very professional, attentive, and caring at the same time with the amount of issues I had to deal with. As a nurse myself, Im very picky about my healthcare professionals, not only for myself, but for my pets, too. I enjoyed her expertise and opinion, and overall, the hospital is very clean, welcoming, and the staff very attentive and works well to accommodate your schedule. I do have some negatives, however, that irk me and prevent me from giving this facility an A score. I just had surgery myself, so have been trying to recover and take care of my dog and one of her medications I just realized was going to run out this weekend. They have always been great about getting prescriptions filled or called into my normal pharmacy, however, this time was different. Not only was I informed on this Saturday afternoon that Dr. Nelson had recently left some time back to move for job/family, whatever the case may be, but I was never notified, not even once, about her vacating. This greatly upsets me as she is a specialist and intimately knew my dogs case and situation and I was never even given a hint that she was leaving so that her care could be transferred to another vet at the hospital or referred to another similar specialist to follow up on my dogs care. Luckily I have all her records to find someone else via my normal primary vet, but I am highly disappointed in this lack of follow up and follow through. Then, while I need the prescription refilled, they notified me that they may not be able to do so as they have done in the past as Dr. Nelson is no longer there as my dogs primary provider and I would have to defer to my primary vet. I firmly told them I understood this, however, my vet is closed after hours on Saturdays and will not open until Monday again when I already have an appointment there and if one of their doctors could at least give a call in for Saturday and Sunday meds until I see my vet on Monday, it would be best since it is high dose steroids and I cannot stop them suddenly for any reason without risking a steroid crisis in my dog. They took my information but then said they would check with the ER vet for the ability to do so, but could not guarantee any assistance. I again firmly explained to them that while it was my fault for not calling sooner during the week, but given my situation, and their failure to notify me of this change in doctors, the least they can do is help to accommodate me this one last time. I still await an answer at this time. Also, my dog has had cases of sebhorrheic outbreak on her skin, and with her issues now and being on steroids, does not recover from this well and easily gets infected despite special shampoos and meds. I had them assess this and they told me that the see what it is and it is an issue, they did state that they were not the best qualified people to further treat the severity, which I understood. However, instead of at least directing me to a specialists for dermatological issues or someone else better able to handle this, they just told me they didnt know who to even start with and to just go back to my vet, whom had directed me to ask them at the hospital. On these two fronts, I was HIGHLY let down and disappointed. While I would use them again for their 24/7 hospital needs and trust they would do well with my dog, I am definitely more leary and weary on taking their final word on things at this point despite how much I trusted their opinions before.

In August I noticed something was wrong with my dog. Despite many vet visits to my dogs primary vet at the time looking at him on the surface and saying that he seems healthy and putting him on random meds. Then to others surrounding me saying that he was probably fine and that I was just "looking for problems that arent there". I finally had the vet recommend a specialist "if I really thought something was wrong". I went to Pieper Memorial and saw Dr. Gross. From the moment we went into the office she was friendly, listened to my concerns, and made her recommendations. Unlike many other vets, she did not automatically go with the most expensive diagnostics and tell me that was what we needed to do. She tried different treatments over the next few months and was constantly in contact with me. She answered every single one of my questions and in such a timely manner. I am sure that I can come across as a bit of a nuisance but she was always there. We finally had to proceed with the more major diagnostics tests this past week, a scope where he had to be put under anesthesia. I was anxious about it, as Im sure many others have experienced, but the office contacted me as soon as it was done and reassured me that everything went well. I went to pick him up and she explained to me what they had found. He was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. This is a long review, but basically, I was always made to feel comfortable here, the staff was nothing but knowledgeable and comforting, and I have honestly never trusted a vet more than I have Dr. Gross and her staff.

They killed my cat, i took him here three times in a month. They kept him overnight, they gave me deworming medication, they said he was just jelous of my new kitten. Then thanksgiving day i came home to find my cat dragging himself across the floor. I went to the er there they said he had feline urinary disease and it was in my chart. Three times i went there they said it was diffrent things never mentioning this to me but they put it in his chart. He went into cardiac arrest, and the nurse told me she wasnt going to save him unless i could pay the 1200 bill for him to get surgery, telling me to call people to get the money, then came in with his dead body and told me he made the descion for me. Im going to keep posting my story. I found him mother, she was a stray and she gave birth to two beautifull lil kittens. I named him felix, he was most awesome little guy ever and I loved him. His mother dissapeared into the woods when i was having someone pet sit for me and they left the door open. My lil guy was so upset. Then he stopped eating which is why i took him their in the first place. DONT BRING YOUR PET HERE!!!! They killed my friends dog in a very similar manner, not giving the pet parent VITAL MEDICAL INFORMATION. THEY SHOULD BE SUED.

We took our cat here due to an emergency otherwise I wouldve gone to my normal veterinary office. After getting the results we were then given our options. I wasnt very pleased with how they treat people when it came to having to come up with large sums of money in the spot and was very insulted about the description on the report of our financial situation to my regular vet. They were good on follow up calls but when I had questions for the doctor and called back the girls who answered the phone were very rude and talked over me and just kept saying "I suggest you listen to your message". The communication between the employees there is very poor. I told them on 4 different occasions that I wanted my number to be called because my boyfriend would not be able to answer calls because he works on the road all day, yet they continued to call him. We were always told one thing by the doctor and the complete opposite by the nurses or front end staff when we would go pick him up. You are dealing with peoples pets, I understand you have a large volume of animals in and out but you should work on being more personal with your clients. Peoples pets are their children.
