The doctor seemed knowledgeable, but the front end staff left a bad taste in my mouth. I called the day before saying that I had a sneezing rat that I wanted looked at. I was told $35 over the phone. I asked the lady over the phone if I brought her cage mate in for a general exam if I would be charged an additional $35. I was told no, just $35 for both of them. Cool. The rats are weighed, handled, and looked at briefly. Vet decides to treat for mycoplasmosis with two different antibiotics. I am not surprised, although unsure about the necessity of two different antibiotics at this stage. However, he is a vetrinarian and I am just a lady with internet access so I do not argue. They are not expensive medications. I wait while they grind up the medicines and add them to some sugar water. When I go to pay I am told it is almost $80. Wait a minute... I was expecting closer to $50. I ask about the cost because it was much higher than I expected even taking the medications into account. I was charged $24 per rat, $5 + $7 for the two different antibiotics, and a $15 compounding fee. I tell them I was told it would be $35 for both rats. They basically tell me, sorry but not sorry. ~$80 please. I ask to talk to the doctor about this. One of the ladies say she is the one to speak to about it. I repeat that I was told $35 for both. She asks if I remembered who I had spoken to. Whoever was answering the phone at this time when I made the appointment. She asks a lady who had been sitting silently at the front desk with them through the whole exchange if she had told me $35. She confirmed that she had. The Supervisor lady apologizes, explains that most people do not remember who they spoke to over the phone & that the phone receptionist is still training, and instructs the cashier lady to charge me $17.50 per rat. I leave wondering why the lady who had spoken to me over the phone had not spoken up rather than sitting there silently while I was asking about this. Also if I had known about the $15 compounding fee I would have just bought the meds online from a pet medicine website and ground it up myself. I was not told about it until they had already mixed it up and I was paying for everything.

Ive been using this clinic for a little over two years now, however, due to a recent experience I am looking for a new vet. While the staff is always friendly and super helpful, I cant help but feel duped by my latest experience. My toy yorkie recently had a huge pussy mass on her face. We took her to the vet in February and asked if it could be an abscessed tooth--as google had said was the most likely. The vet told us no because she was too young and still chewing her toys. Furthermore, all of her baby teeth had been removed when she was spaded about a year ago. After spending a little over $200 for an antibiotic shot, we went home. Last week I noticed that the scab which still had not healed was also starting to pus again and that my dog would not let me touch her face. I took her back to the clinic where I was told again that we would shave her face, put her under with gas, remove the scab and use oral antibiotics. I was quoted about $150 for this I believe. As I was waiting for them to finish another vet came out and told me that it turns out the dog had 3 baby teeth that needed to be pulled and 1 of those was abscessed. My dog is like my child so I naturally gave the OK to do whatever they needed to do to help her feel better. I figured since this seemed like a mistake on their end--first for not pulling all of her baby teeth when they were suppose to have and second for misdiagnosing her even after we asked if it was an abscessed tooth--that I would be given some sort of a discount. However, no one apologized for this mix up and I was charged a whooping $302. I was fully prepared to pay for the gas and meds that were administered, but I couldnt believe I was charged for the visit. Moral of the story is I ended up paying about $500 for a problem that shouldve been adverted when she was spaded. Like I said, Im not pleased and looking for another vet.

My dog had not eaten in 24hrs and has a swollen abdomen. I showed up 15min after they opened, I didnt have an appointment and understandably they where booked on that Saturday! However this is clearly and emergency situation. The girl at the front desk told me I could wait, I told her that I could not wait in the lobby but I could wait across the street at my job because I was scheduled to work. I can see the clinic from my place of business and she tells me that they dont have time for that. Did she not have time to make the 15 second phone call, or she didnt have 3mins for me to walk across the street? For a place that should care for animals they were not willing to work with me during this emergency situation........after writing this review I was harassed on Fb by Dr. Shadoxx, he left a bad review about my services even tho hes never set foot in the salon. He demanded to know who treated my dog and the diagnosis. But they didnt care when I I was there.

Chestnut Animal Clinic has been treating my parents and my personal dogs for over 20 years. Dr. Shaddox is the most friendly and compassionate vet youll find. Dr. Meurer is a super nice guy and an excellent doctor. Both are extremely experienced and very detailed in helping your pets. The entire staff is super friendly and always making our pets feel like their own. The staff also works hard to make the pets feel comfortable during exams and procedures. They offer and explain itemized estimates before any service to make sure you are financially comfortable with their work. The clinic facility is very clean and great equipment like digital X-Rays and a surgical laser that are much easier on the animal. I frequently recommend them and would definitely tell anyone with a pet to take them to see the doctors and staff at Chestnut Animal Clinic.
