There are always those few people who deem themselves know-it-alls and think theyre smarter than the professional...whether that be a vet, medical doctor, or teacher etc. I agree with Jackie, its how you present yourself. If you are arrogant enough to presume you can tell the vet how to do his job, then you probably ARE hard to deal with. If I took an animal (lets say, a dog) to a veterinary clinic, and felt the vet was THAT incompetent, I would have pulled my animal well before the first week was up and took her elsewhere and certainly wouldnt have stayed with that vet for another second, let alone 3 more weeks. And if any vet didnt offer lab results, treatment for, or discussion of, one of my animals, why would I even bring a second animal (lets say, a cat) to him??? I always find it a little suspect when someone describes themselves or their actions in a situation like this as "I was being nice" or "I was kind" or "my kind email" because nine times out of ten, they were anything but nice or kind, and wanted to shift any blame to the other party. I can bet witnesses to any interaction between Dr. Wellman and a client would have quite a different story to tell. With that said, I have been in animal rescue since 1970. I have dealt with all kinds of vets and I assure you, Dr. Wellman is one of the finest. He has dedicated his life to saving and helping animals and I have heard testimony that he has worked what has been described as miraculous in saving some of his patients thought to be beyond hope by other vets. In my case, a few years back, I rescued a cat who had been shot and had been hiding in a collapsed building for days. When I finally caught him, it was clear, not only would he be unable to survive much longer in the condition he was in, but he would need one of his legs amputated. EVERY VET I called either wanted to charge an arm and leg, or didnt perform amputations, or suggested I just euthanize the cat. I called someone who was in cat rescue that I had recently met, and he suggested calling Dr. Wellman. I was told to bring the cat in immediately...no hesitation whatsoever. No discussion of "you need $XX for a deposit and the balance at pick-up". No suggestion to euthanize...as that was out of the question when it comes to Dr. Wellman, who will try anything to save an animal first. The cat was there for two days, and when I went to check on him, Dr. Wellmans wife told me due to the extent of the injury, the surgery was more complicated than usual and lasted much longer than anticipated. She told me Dr. Wellman performed the procedure for hours straight in spite of having back pains from bending over for so long....apparently ignoring his pain because his concern for the little patient was far more important than his own discomfort. I have the cat in my rescue now, and he is healthy and just as lively as the 4-legged indoor cats here. Dr. Wellman NEVER charged one red cent for any overnight hospitalization, for intravenous rehydration, for the surgery, for a office call or for any medication or anesthesia. He didnt charge me for the antibiotics I took home nor for any follow-up visits. ZERO cost for ALL services. Hes not in it for the money. He loves animals. Hes in this profession because helping animals is his lifes mission.

Perri had been sick for months. You did nothing but give us steroids and some "vitamins" that none of our cats would go near. Instead of suggesting a different vet, you continued on, even suggesting if the vitamins didnt work, "you could just cut her open to see if its a tumor". She was 11 years old, she had already lost 6 pounds and was barely eating and you expected her to survive that. That was great veterinary care. Then, after one solid week of her not eating, AT ALL, we decided that we didnt want her to suffer at all. Our suffering never exceeded hers, our hearts broke, all we did was worry, but we were not suffering. As for you trying to stuff our recently deceased pet into a garbage bag, there was no confusion. My face ws dripping in tears as you OPENED THE BAG. You were not trying to merely "cover her" you were trying to put my wife and Is pet into a garbage bag. How was me shoving my way between you and my cat confusing? How was me stopping you from actually putting her in there confusing? Was my wife confusing as she stood there frozen in horror as you flicked open a plastic bag for us to transport our dead cat in? Sir, I respect your profession, and Im sure you were great, about 20 years ago, but you are far past your prime. You, apparently, have forgotten what compassion is, or at least confused it with cruelty. No one deserves what you put us through.

If youre looking for cheap and reasonable, this place is for you. If youre looking for love and compassion, please, for your pets sake and your own sanity, DO NOT take your pet here. Ive never left a review on anything on Google ever. But this needs to be said. We took our cat here for a diagnosis of what was wrong with her. She dropped 7lbs in 3 months and wouldnt eat. After months and multiple visits, he had no clue what was wrong and said hed need to "open her up" without so much as an xray or ultrasound. Once our baby got so bad and nothing seemed to be working, we decided to put her to sleep. He had to poke her multiple times to even get the syringe where it needed to be. There was no compassion. No "Im so sorry". No love. Nothing. And when he asked if we were taking her home with us, he tried to put her in a garbage bag for transport. I obviously declined. Please take your little member of the family elsewhere. I understand hes been doing this a long, long time, but its about time he stops.

He is too old & arrogant to be practicing. He ordered labs for my dog who was not feeling well & did not bother to read them. This went on for several weeks. He ordered labs for my cat which he never offered any treatment or discussion. My dog died because of his negligence. He responded to my kind email and stated that he was glad she was being taken care of some place else because "he couldnt deal with me or my animals" and signed off "good luck." He knew my dog was the ICU and it was his negligence that allowed my dog to bleed to death over a 3-week period. He charged me 100s of dollars for this horrific veterinary care. The ICU cost over $5000. But life of my beloved dog was the worst tragedy & was totally avoidable. I called him & he stated that I could have seen the labs as well as him and, therefore, it was my fault. He thought emailing them to me was adequate care. He, then, hung up on me. I asked for compensation through his wife and there was nothing done by him.

Dr.Wellman and staff are incredibly talented loving and caring. My Dogs love to go see Doc. And if a 180# Dane doesnt want to go to the vet, you aint making him. All my pets love to go in. They love Doc and Terri. Have had to say goodbye to some of the kidz as they got old and sick. When its time Doc and Terri have come out to the car to put them down. Its always a gentle loving send off. And they take time to care for the owner. I just love those folks. I have a zoo of critters and Doc Wellman is our hero when they get sick. This is truly THE BEST VET IN THE STATE.
