I wanted to share my experience with the Quest Diagnostics location in Anaheim Hills, CA. I walked in to a reasonably full lobby at 0710 for an appointment at 0715. I signed in on the appointment log. Jason, photo attached, with the professionally monogrammed labcoat, looked at his appointment sheet and said youre not on the list. I had a photo of the appointment number on my phone, photo attached, but it did not have the date and time on it. So he told me I could go bring him a printout or wait the hour as a walk in. I signed in as a walk in and gave him my order, ID, and insurance card. After a few minutes I decided to drive the 15 minutes home, print it and come back, as that would still be faster than the hour waiting. I returned with the printout of my appointment, and Jason said, doesnt matter yourre next anyway on the walk in list. No apology for not believing I had an appointment at that time, he had made no effort to look up the appointment, and he didnt care that he wasted my time, and gas. He did not care that I have places to be, which is why I made an appointment in advance... "Have a seat" So I have a seat. Not one, but two patients are called in before me, but Im next. So 10 minutes later, Jason yells my name across the lobby and says to go to room 3. I walk back to room 3, where I am not greeted. There is a young black man sitting on the arm of the draw chair with his back to me working on the computer. Eventually, I have a seat next to his ass, and for 15 minutes he is typing away on the computer. Then the computer wont print, so he rummages through drawers, finds some paper and loads the printer. Still hasnt acknowledged my presence. He comes around to my right, lowers the arm of the chair and the first thing he says is, "Which arm?" I said, "Doesnt matter" and he says, "Ok" and puts the rubberband tourniquet on my right arm. He sticks me and draws several vials of blood. Then the next thing he said, "Apply pressure" I am sitting there with my finger over the cotton ball while he is leaning on the arm of the chair. He is putting stickers on the vials, and did not draw enough, so he opens a pair of vials and while pouring spilled blood on his glove, he curses and changes gloves, then he picks up the boxes of little stickers and the red ones all fall out onto the floor, again he curses, and picks them up and frustratingly throws them in the garbage. Then something else is wrong, so he leaves to talk to someone else, I dont know what was wrong, the whole time he is talking to himself. Then he puts a paper with barcodes on it and says, "If your name is spelled right, sign here" I do, he takes the paper, goes back to his busy work, leaning again on the arm of the chair, without looking at me he says, "You can go" ... I am kind of locked into the chair with him sitting/leaning on arm that raises. Again, he says, "You can go" then turns to look and sees that I am locked in the chair by him, he gets off the arm of the chair and raises it so I may leave. Nothing else was said, by him or Jason on my way out, no have a nice day, no apology for the wait or not believing I had an appointment at the time I arrived. More concerning than that to me anyway, Gloves, I understand the gloves are to protect the phlebotomist, but would also think there is some use of gloves to protect the patient, so he was wearing gloves when I came in, same gloves typing on the computer, rummaging through drawers, opening the ream of paper, loading the printer, writing whatever, lowering the arm of the chair, and drawing my blood. The only time he changed a glove, just one, is when he spilled my blood on it. I dont know if this is how it is supposed to be, but usually, when I am called back, everything is ready, vials ready to go, paperwork done. I sit down, the phelbotomist puts on gloves at that point, alcohol swab, and draw... I just wonder, it the environment at his workstation so unsanitary that he needs gloves to work on the computer or handle his pen.

This was the first time I had ever been to this particular Quest location and I was incredibly disappointed. The tech who intially took my blood was clearly very sick and proudly announced that despite having the flu she had still managed to make it to work that day. I think it is unbelievably inappropriate to have someone that sick at work in a lab in contact with patients who may potentially have already-compromised health or who may be having pre-op blood taken and need to avoid getting sick before surgery (my situation). The tech also ended up drawing my blood from a superficial vein and the sample ended up hemolyzed. I was notified by the main lab a few days later that I needed to return for a redraw as a result, and when I inquired about how many of the tests had been compromised, I learned that half of the tests had never even been entered into the computer at the lab in the first place. When I returned for my redraw, a different tech took my blood and everything went quickly and smoothly. I could not give more than one star for this lab, however, because of the initial inconvenience, tech-screw ups, and disturbing fact that the lab allows a sick employee to come into such close contact with patients.

I have been to this lab many times before and would have rated it 5 stars if it had not been for my last experience where they completely lied to me and then illegally charged my credit card without my authorization. I went there for a routine test that I have done once a month. This time I was asked for my card to make sure there was money in my account, but was told that my card would not be actually charged. l12 days later I received an email stating that I signed up for an "Easy Pay" program and that they were charging my card for the patient responsibility balance. I called there billing department who then shrugged me off and said they could not do anything when I asked to simply be billed for the amount as had happened previously and not charged on credit card. What this company did was not just unethical and illegal as they have no document with my signature stating that they have any right to access my account.

Ive been to several Quest Diagnostic labs throughout my career of medical problems. Appointments book up fast, so Ive always been a walk-in. Dont be a jerk about it. Either make an appointment or be prepared to wait. Bring a book, a friend, or color. Dont be a grown human being who blames your inability to print a confirmation, bring your insurance card, or lack of skill at time management on other people. I arrived as a walk-in at 8 a.m. today and was seen at 9. I get it, an hour was actually pretty good. The staff of this location and all others are very skilled and kind. Its what I witness in the waiting area thats the problem. Loud sighing, irritated eye contact, and one mans outburst of calling the receptionist a prick. Im sorry society thinks this behavior is acceptable. To the staff of all Quest Diagnostics, thank you. We need your services and bless you for putting up with us.
