On my very first visit i gave them a copy of my puppys details such as age, weight, breed, birthdate and all the shots that it had gotten and the ones that were left to be administered. The lady at the front desk who served me each time i went there was very friendly but MISSPELT my name and address and TYPED IN THE WRONG breed and age of my puppy. Thus my puppy was given the RABIES SHOT when it was TOO YOUNG for it and they asked me to come back in 5 wks to get it done again but for free as id already paid the first time arnd. It wasnt just once that this lady got me and my pets details wrong and there were many DISCREPANCIES on the rabies cert that they gave us. Also, the dr. didnt come out to apologise for the mistake or to explain further. He only told one of the staff members that the premature rabies shot didnt harm my puppy but i researched that and found out that shots, premature or not, can have side effects such as diarrhoea, vomiting, depression etc. Also, the other vet we went to after this one, said that sick animals should not be given shots. SO WHY DID THEY GIVE HIM A SHOT ON THE SAME SESSION THEY WERE PRESCRIBING HIM MEDICATION FOR AN ILLNESS? Im considering legal action or at least investigating further about them.

Dr. Freyts at Hawthorne Dog and Cat Hospital is an amazing find! We had a 21 year old cat. For my husband and I Paw Girl, our cat was the love of our life. As she grew old, Dr. Fretys was the word of wisdom on how to keep her comfortable and healthy. She had kidney Disease and a Thyroid Condition. He was always the voice of reason letting us know how to help her in so many ways. He came up with both the most practical and creative solutions no matter what her problems were. Towards the end we werent sure about the timing and Dr. Fretys Let us know in the kindest of ways when it was time to let our little girl go and did it with the utmost of compassion. Dr. Freyts has been the most knowledgeable vet we have ever known and he loves his patients so much. He is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. He is a true treasure.

I have been going here with my pets since I was a child. Now that I am an adult, I still take my current pets (2 cats and a rescued pound puppy) there. The staff is wonderful (receptionists need help sometimes but we all have off days) and the doctors are great! The doctors tell you whats going on and give you several courses of action and how much they cost! In fact when my pound puppy was throwing up the veterinarian offered a cheaper route first to cure his vomitting (anti-vomitting medication, prilosec and Science Diet I/D). Definitely take your pet there! I recommend it!

I used Hawthorne Dog & Cat Hospital in the past when I lived in Lawndale. We moved to Torrance and used a different place once in an emergency. Now that we live in Lawndale again, they are our exclusive Vets. I made the appointment online and had no problem getting the time I had available. The staff was friendly and courteous. The service was thorough and done in a reasonable amount of time. The cost was what we expected and the information we asked for was great. I would recommend them to anyone for a job well done.

Brought in our 16 year old cat and unfortunately had to make the painful decision to put her down. The doctor and staff were very compassionate and patient with us. We were given many treatment options, but in the end, the most humane choice for us was the euthanasia. The staff was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions and concerns. In the end, it was a very peaceful experience and Im glad we came to this pet hospital. I would highly recommend them.

I have been coming to this hospital for over 8 years with my two dogs. The staff is always caring , professional and attentive, Dr. Freyts is very gentle and knowledgeable. They always give you treatment options and never push anything on you. Their payment plan and senior discounts came in very handy. Highly recommend!

I took my little terrier mix in on 8/16 and they treated him like royalty. Diagnosed his condition and though it was pricey even with Pet Assure, hes much better. At the same time we got capstar and comfortis for both he and my German Shorthaired Pointer. I am so glad to have gone there. Very comfortable feeling.

Hawthorne Dog & Cat have been taking care of my pups for the last 30 years. The entire staff are all caring folks that truly care about my dogs. Ive been thru some serious issues with a couple of dogs and Dr. Freyts has always been great with his experience and compassion. I wouldnt go anywhere else.

I took my German Shepard puppy and I was very impressed. I love the helpful staff and vet. the office is clean and friendly. The hours are great and they can also make same day appointments. They now offer grooming too !!! I really would recommend everyone to go and check them out.

Feb 7 2012 Took my cat in for a spay. Very clean facility, professional and caring staff. Skilled and thoughtful doctor. Prices were reasonable. Will be back again.
