Money > Patients (Read on if that matters to you) I was a patient of Oso Family Medical for many years. But not as of 2014, when they decided to not take any coverage associated with Covered California. That is not what my 1 star review is regarding. It is how they handled it, when they clearly showed it was more important to save a few dollars instead of doing what is best for patients. In the 2014 my wife became a patient of the office. We had Covered CA when we selected them as her doctor. There was no problem initially. But then my wife got sick in November, throwing up and other stuff. We took her to the doctor as you typically with these types of things. She needed to see the doctor. When we arrived I filled out her paperwork and returned it to the desk. Several minutes passed by and I was called back to the desk, only to be informed that they no longer took any insurance with Covered CA. I told them we hadnt received any notice. Her response was that they had no way to notify people with specific coverage. So rather than notifying everyone they simply waited to turn people away. That is POOR care of patients. They cared more about saving a few dollars than the people theyve "supposedly" committed to helping. You would think that a doctors office would be interested in informing people that they would no longer be willing to see patients so those patients could find new doctors. But I guess not with this office, which is sad.

Went to Oso FMG for years...then started notice low standard of practice and strange things like increasing the strength of prescriptions written by other doctors without first consulting with them and not doing proper work up. The clincher was when I brought a family member into their "urgent care" clinic after normal hours...for a deep cut in the leg...very deep into the fatty tissue and something that would need sutures. The woman there who also was their x-ray technician was going to "wash out" the wound with solution from a bottle of solution already open and about 1/3 full...it had been opened & closed multiple times for many uses...rendering it "non-sterile" and potentially full of bacteria and god knows what else! When I objected to them using this probably contaminated solution on the deep wound, she angrily told me "this is the only bottle we have"...totally unbelievable & unacceptable, especially for an urgent care center. Should be properly stocked with sealed sterile normal saline solution . What is just as bad is this womans rudeness and nasty way of dealing with patients..she was HORRIBLE! I called & tried to speak to the manager & owner, Dr.Joy, but was refused by the front desk who blocked my calls! HORRIBLE & NEGLIGENT PEOPLE ON ALL LEVELS! With all the super bugs and bacteria out there you bring in an open used bottle to do a deep wound irrigation? NOT ON MY FAMILY YOU DONT! AVOID THIS CLINIC IF YOU VALUE YOUR HEALTH!

I would give a negative if I could. This place is horrible, I went in there over the weekend. They called in a prescription and my insurance wouldnt cover it. The pharmacist requested a different one/generic brand but my luck they were closed already. The next day I called Drs. office 1st thing in the morning asked them to please call in the new prescription for me. 2 hours later nothing happened, called 2nd time spoke with Cynthia I believe thats the name and she was very rude, careless and showed no sympathy at all. She said it was waiting on the Dr. couple hours later called again, same girl answer I explained I was in pain, she seemed careless & said there was nothing she could do. I asked for an ETA she said she didnt know. Ive worked at a Drs. office before and currently in customer service. I called a 3rd time req. to speak to the manager and some girl got back to me stating she would take care of it. Asked if they could call it in before 12:30 since its the only time I could go & pick up the RX from pharmacy, this is my lunch time. Its 1:15pm my lunch is over and my pharmacy is yet to hear from the Drs. office. I have to say I would never go back to this facility again. They dont care about their patients.

One star given non deserved. The wife and I have been with Oso group for many years 10+. The service began declining a year ago after making some corporate cost cutting measures. The service and care is now below 1st world standards. Earlier it just seemed to become a training ground for interns rather than health care professionals e.g. paid/trained/certified individuals not school interns. If you are looking to volunteer to let someone learn to draw blood, stitch a wound or choose what drug drug vial left on the counter is the right one to stick you with this is the place for you. The last contact was the wife calling to make an appointment with Stefanie J. Fightlin D. O. The girl who answered laughed and said she is booked through January (over a month out). No offer to arrange another option, another care provider or otherwise. Unacceptable; we are changing our health care provider to a group that provides health care. At the very least up to even Obama care levels. Bsmith

Dr. Joy is the best doctor that Ive ever had and his staff is great as well, they all go that extra mile and remember whats been going on with you and your personal affairs. Which shows me that they care about their patients. They really do a great job and go out of their way to make sure that they do their job to the best of their ability and more to ensure that your experience is not just a doctors visit but more than that. I give the Oso Family Team two thumbs up for their customer satisfaction and care as well as their knowledgeable treatments and medical expertise in the field of Medicine. Ive had nothing but good experiences with the staff and the doctors. The after hours urgent care staff is also very good at what they do. So I highly recommend this office as a great choice for your medical treatment and primary care physician. I am Eric Brown and this is how I would like to say thanks for all the help and care this team has done for me over the years.

New: Im updating my review since Oso Family Medical it was bought by OptumCare. What I loved about Oso is gone, and that was the "family doctor." But Optum has worked very hard to become efficient and have trained the staff compassion and understanding. Im worried about my own health because its complex and if Dr. Joy ever leaves Im terrified I wont get that kind of "Dr. Welby" care. I know that Optum now reads the personal emails we used to send, and Im no longer using that portal. Im worried about corporate decisions in healthcare, and them weighing in on my care when Ive used this doctor 20 years or more. But time will tell if it changes. I cant speak for other doctors there, but the staff is well trained, and caring. All I can do is give OptumCare a chance to prove its not about the bottom line, but care. So far, theyve done that.

my family and i have been going here for years, however, just recently did Dr. Joy upset my family and I. I was having 8 migranes a month so I went to go see him and he basically just threw some pills at me and just told me its hormonal and hereditary so Im screwed. No, hey lets go refer you to a neurologist and get an MRI. i later found out him prescribing me the medication he did was the worst thing for me because it was then causing me to have rebound headaches. there are a lot issues with migraines than people think like strokes and heart disease. so thanks for not helping me and not caring. never going back here again.
