Ive been taking my dog, Rudy, here for over 4 years. Great place. The staff is always friendly and loving towards my dog. They generally call the day before an appointment to remind me. More importantly they follow up a couple days after any kind of illness or procedure. Dr. Cardeiro is a very good vet with lots of experience. I feel comfortable taking her advice for my little one. For example, Rudy was attacked by a coyote earlier this year. The vet at the animal hospital wanted to perform an expensive and invasive exploratory surgery to make sure he didnt have any internal organ damage. I asked Dr. Cardeiro for a second opinion. After a quick exam, she determined that the procedure was not necessary and could possibly make things worse. Needless to say I didnt go thru with it, and Rudy made a full recovery within weeks. Ive discussed the prices with a friend who takes her dogs to a vet in La Mesa who she considers to be very cheap and good. From what I can tell, the rates at Point Loma Veterinary Clinic seem comparable to my friends vet.

As a rescue, We feel we are getting a very through exam, a caring Doctor, and good prices. We have heard some say the Doc is not talkative, but she is a very caring animal person, you need to ask the questions, give her the info and listen when she gives you her response. As someone who brings a lot of animals in with very little previous info we feel she does a wonderful job finding out what the problem might be, and as for dentals, I personally think she does the best job. Every tooth is checked fully, and if you have a problem afterwards her personal number is on the answering machine for calls. Everyone has a different personality, but we feel having someone that cares about the animals is what is most important. If you are on a time crunch make sure you tell the girls in the office that you need to know if they are running late, as with our own medical doctors sometimes they lose track of time and your appointment time will get pushed back.

I was a client of Pt Loma Veterinary and Dr. Cardeiro for close to eight years. My wonderful Boxer, Arnold, was under the best of care with her and her staff every single time I brought him there. From his youthful injuries to his unfortunate diagnosis of lymphoma and ultimate passing, the compassion, expertise, and understanding of the breed was every bit what one should expect from a professional veterinary clinic, and in many cases I (appreciatively) felt was exceeding the standard. I was most impressed with how Dr. Cardeiro handled his cancer diagnosis, and the steps she took to ensure he received immediate attention and referrals to the specialists. The money was well spent and the personal care my beloved furry friend received was beyond what the chains are capable of offering. Im hopeful to one day get another Boxer and without question will choose Dr. Cardeiro and her facility for their care.

We have been with Dr. Cardeiro for 3 years since we adopted our dog Daffy. Dr. Cardeiro and her staff have provided outstanding care for her. They have always accommodated visits for us whenever we needed to come in no matter how short notice it was. Any time I have needed to make a decision regarding Daffys care, Dr. Cardeiro made sure I was well educated and informed about my options. Her recommendations are all derived from evidence based research, so I feel her information is very current. She always provides excellent follow up care as well- she personally calls me with all test results (even if they are normal), and asks how Daffy is tolerating new medications, etc. I feel very confident and happy with her care. Her staff clearly loves to care for animals as well and they work in a very welcoming and loving environment. All-around excellent practice!!

Ive lived in Ocean Beach since 1973. Ive always had pets, both cats and dogs, and over the years have visited just about every vet in the Ocean Beach/Point Loma area and a few on the fringes of the community. That said, I simply cant say enough good things about Dr. Cardeiro and her staff. The care for my pets has been warm, caring, attentive and highly competent. Any recommendations for medications or treatments are clearly made with professional consideration and Ive received post visit calls to check on the condition of my pets after treatments. Follow-up visits for certain conditions have been offered at no charge. I have several pets, all of them rescue, and they all have their individual idiosyncrasies. Dr. Cardeiro and her staff have been unfailingly wonderful with all of them. I highly recommend Point Loma Vet Clinic without reservation!

Valerie Cardeiro had a place on Catalina before this. We were so upset by the treatment we received, we filed a complaint against her. We had her spay our six month old dachshund and she nearly died. We had to take her to and urgent animal care clinic where she recovered. We didnt get angry that time because there are risks to putting animals under anesthesia. Then, we took in another dog for an ear infection, a hound with long ears. We treated as the bottle said and took him in after that and his infection was worse because we were treating the wrong ear. They mislabeled the bottle for the wrong ear. No apology, nothing, in fact she blamed us. We had to pay for washing his ear out and new medicine, she gave us no break at all for the mistake her clinic made. We filed an action against her but nothing came of it. AVOID this vet.

My husband and I moved to Point Loma 7 years ago and feel very fortunate to have had a neighbor recommend Dr. Cardeiro. She told us that Dr. Cardeiro had saved her dogs life. So, we took our baby(I mean our 11 pound Daschund Buttons) to her office. Dr. Cardeiro is the best! She is caring, concerned and thorough. I feel she is extremely knowledgable and provides excellent care. Her record keeping is detailed and on each visit you feel confident when she has completed details of Buttons history. We trust her completely. The entire staff are professional and friendly, I just phone and say Im Buttons mom, and they always giggle and know who we are. Thank you Dr. Cardeiro and your entire staff for all of your great care! Joanna Darrow (Buttons mom)

I recently took my kitty Simone in for some overdue dental treatment. Dr. Valerie Cardiero and her staff were so warm and accommodating. The doctor explained what needed to be done in detail with a scale model of the mouth to show me the areas that needed work. I dropped my kitty off in the morning to have her treatment. Even with emergencies that came in that day, Dr. Cardeiro still worked my kitty in. She and her staff stayed late to accommodate me and my pet, even though it was the eve before Thanksgiving Day. Dr. Cardeiro, Valentina at the front desk, and Kim, the technician, all worked tirelessly to help my pet! Their compassion for animals and their owners was evident. I can recommend them without hesitation.

My rescue Cocker Spaniel has been a patient of Dr. Cardeiro for almost 4 years. Because of previous abuse my dog is very nervous around other people and I have never seen him act scared around Dr. Cardeiro. Her calm and relaxing approach always makes him feel comfortable. My dog has had dental work, minor ear surgery, and numerous checkups and everything has always been smooth. Her staff (including Ziba the dog groomer) are friendly, knowledgeable and always answer any questions that I have. I wouldnt go anywhere else for my pets needs. I trust and highly recommend Point Loma Veterinary for any of your veterinary needs.
