The most inept "care facility" I have come across; how has no one shut them down? Just yesterday, my mother was in Berkley East for recovery post-surgery. Apparently she transferred to a different facility in the neighborhood without my knowledge. At 2 AM this morning (less than an hour ago) I received a missed call from Berkley East without an accompanying voicemail. I called back the number to try to find out what the call was about and the woman asks me to "hold on" and hangs up on me. Seriously. She must have thought she was pressing HOLD but instead she just put the phone on the receiver. When I call back, she apologizes and says she will transfer me to the 4th floor where my mother "probably is." "Hold on," she says, and...SHE HANGS UP ON ME. AGAIN. I call back a third time and demand she locates my mother on her computer or physically in the building and finds out why I received a mystery call from the facility at 2:00 in the morning. She asks me to call back in ten minutes so they can have time to locate her. So I do. The woman informs me that there is no record of my mother ever having been at their facility. She was there yesterday. I hung up and made a handful of other calls before I could track my mother down and make sure everything was alright. Berkley East is a pathetic joke of a "hospital" or "care facility." I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMY. Enough said.

This place does not provide routine medical care. Our 88 year old family member spent 3 plus weeks and returned home in far worse shape from her stay. She arrived able to use a walker but was encouraged to sit in a wheel chair and watch TV all day. The so-called dining room isnt used for meals, so patients eat in or at the bedside and of course the food by the time it arrives is lukewarm at best. The staff clearly does not do routine daily physical assessments because they didnt notice that her legs became extremely swollen and that the fluid retention was causing very audible breathing problems. Shes been in this facility twice and at best it provides a bed to sleep in, a wheelchair to sit in and 3 lukewarm and unappetizing meals a day. Dont know how they can get away with describing themselves as a convalescent "hospital".

Worst place ever! Lets see, where do I start. First, if you have to go to the bathroom, forget it, they make you wait at least 40 minutes. They prefer you use a depends. If you need anything at night, youll be dead before anyone comes. After my parent was here for 3 weeks, we found out when the discharge nurse came that they were giving her the wrong dosage of her blood pressure medication, did no one notice how high her blood pressure was? They also were not following the correct pain management orders. They are supposed to have the best physical therapy there, well, they did not follow doctors orders. Need I say more.

I recommended this facility and staff to anyone looking for a place for rehabilitation. My mom was admitted to this facility for rehab and physical therapy after an extended stay at St Johns and has been there almost a month. The nursing care, PT and facility have been top notch. Every special request we have made to make my mom as comfortable as possible has been granted and she is going home today. Thank you to everyone at Berkley East who has helped in my moms recovery. Another perk, is that this Facility is dog friendly and any dog owner can tell you they are imperative to ones speedy recovery

My 88 year old mother spent 4 months recovering from a hip injury. The staff bent over backwards to accommodate her needs. They moved her to a different room when she ran out of things to talk about with her roommates. She got a full regime of exercise and therapy. They were a little slow getting to her when she needed to be cleaned up after going to the bathroom, but they were very punctual for scheduled bathroom activities. Overall I was very pleased with Berkley East.

They used restraints to tie our loved-one to the bed. We ask them to stop but they ignored us and continued to do it. We got our loved-one out of there as fast as we could and never looked back. Just because someone grows old and gets sick does not mean they should be treated worse than a prisoner. It is our opinion that you should stay far away from Berkley East!

I would give them 10 stars. My mom spent 3 week there after a knee surgery and she was so well taken care of. Everyone was so amazing there. Her physical therapist was so great and caring as well and she even helped out out after my moms discharge. I highly recommend this place whether you are looking for yourself or a loved one

Berkley East is a fantastic facility with excellent staff and respectful care for its clients. I find the reviews below rather at odds with the reality of our familys experience. I recommend this facility highly for anyone in need of convalescent care.

First day for my wife at Berkley East Rehab and shes reporting how wonderful it is! Staff marvelous and physical therapy as a group event is very enjoyable and fun! St Johns doctors recommendations for this facility were right on the mark!
