TO ALL PARENTS WHO WANT TO DELIVER YOUR CHILD AT TORRANCE HOSPITAL. BE AWARE!!! YOU COULD BE MISDIAGONIOSED WITH HIV EVEN YOU ARE NOT A CARRIER. YOUR KID COULD BE INJECTED HIV MEDICINES WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT! Several days prior delivery day, we brought my wife’s medical records to the hospital IN PERSON. Those documents include my wife’s medical history with Kaiser and Fair Oaks Hospital (we moved during my wife’s pregnancy). Right after my wife became pregnant, Kaiser hospital had tested her for HIV which provided a negative test result. Having all the medical records in hand, I thought my wife’s delivery would be an easy process at Torrance Memorial. However, it turned out to be a traumatizing and emotionally distressing nightmare. My wife was scheduled to have C-section at Torrance Memorial Hospital. But her water broke early so we had to go to hospital in rush. During her labor, a nurse came in to draw blood from my wife during her labor. We were then told that they had tested for HIV and the result came out positive. A different nurse came in and said they needed to draw more blood again hours later and stated that the HIV test was positive and that they needed to run the test again. She did an awful job and left a huge bruise on my wife’s arm while my wife was suffering from the pain from the labor. The 2nd result also came back positive per Torrance. This resulted in serious mental distress for the whole family. Seeing my wife in despair and not eating was terribly upsetting for me and the mental pain and stress were overwhelming. The stress had caused me to focus on this terrible situation, instead of focusing on my newborn son. My wife was also told not to breast feed my son. It took away the important bonding time between my wife and my son. What’s even worse, the hospital began administering AZT, Nevirapine, and 3TC to our son WITHOUT our consent or explaining what was happening. The nurses came in and said “Time for the baby’s medicine.” We thought the medicine they were providing was regular procedure, since we have never had a baby before. My son also had his blood drawn multiple times without any explanation of what was going on. We found out this 2 days later and immediately called for a stop. Dr. David Michalik came to see my son. He looked perplexed and stated that our son was on medications for HIV and that the three medicines that were scheduled were typically given to babies of mothers that were homeless or drug addicts. Nothing indicated that my wife was any of these and we were shocked. This is a serious medical malpractice on the part of Torrance Memorial Hospital’s medical team. The doctor sent my wife’s blood to another lab for testing, but we never receive the final results from Torrance Memorial AS OF TODAY. NOBODY from the medical team, sat down with myself or my wife and explained what was happening and what they intended to do with our son. Luckily, we switched back to Kaiser and my wife tested for HIV again. It’s negative! AGAIN, TO ALL PARENTS, PLEASE DO NOT USE TORRANCE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A HAPPY AND SMOOTH DELIVERY!! P.S. My wife doesn’t want to disclose her information so I used a new account I just created to post this message. She is still suffering from what happened to her at Torrance Memorial Hospital. Everything states above is true. If my message gets lots of attention from all the parents or media, we might disclosure our information.

PLEASE READ! Might save your life. My wife had gone into this hospital 3 times over the course of two weeks. It started out as a really bad sore throat. They did an X-Ray then sent her home telling her to buy some over the counter cough medicine. 6 days later she had to go back in because she was coughing up blood and could barely speak. She told them the over the counter stuff did not work and she hopes this time shell get properly treated. The nurse told her she was being rude and tried to get into an argument over their "limitations" of what they can and cant do for patients. So what did they do this time? Drew blood then sent her home with Amoxicillin and Tylenol. She didnt want to leave so they gave her a number to a Nose, Throat specialist doctor with Torrance Memorial network. All she did was give her more Amoxicillin. Later that night she was coughing up blood again and in complete agony. I took her to Little Company of Mary ER (Providence Torrance). After a mere hour at the ER they immediately got her into a room and finally we found out what it was... it was Sepsis. Its a form of extreme infection that can easily cause organ failure and death. 2 hours after being in our new room her blood pressure dropped to a dangerously low number, she said she felt dizzy and blacked out. They got her into the ICU and she was stable again. She spent 4 days in the hospital. They had to pump so much antibiotics into her that her veins would no longer receive fluid after a day and theyd have to move the IV. She almost needed surgery to remove the infection but luckily the Vasopressors and antibiotics did the trick. Were finally home, Im so grateful to have Little Company in Torrance. Their staff is extremely nice, the nurses come to check on patients very often and the doctors are very experienced. Two nights before she went home she was feeling better and wanted a bath (the wipe with soap and non-rinse shampoo thing) the nurses overheard saying she has sensitive skin and she would love to have a shower but she didnt ask them for one, yet the nurses called the doctor to authorize that they could take off the heart monitoring things and the IV just so she could have a shower, then attached everything back on. Its little things like that I really appreciate. The worst part was, she had been in that state while she went to Torrance Memorial. If they said, they caught it just as it got worse or something I wouldnt post this review. But because it was in her throat, this was actually a rare case where Sepsis would be easy to find. At Little Company they the contrast CT scan and put a camera down her nose where they could see how bad the infection was. This isnt a "revenge review" or anything of the sort. This is exactly what happened and Im putting this story up because Torrance Hospital should be your last resort. Its the kind of hospital that tries to ask you for the $100 co-pay first before they do barely anything to help you.

Torrance Memorial is a wonderful hospital; however they have an irate doctor associated with them by the name of Gregory E. Washington an Otolaryngologist Doctor located @ 23456 Hawthorne Blvd Ste 250,Torrance, CA 90505. I saw Doctor Washington Jan. 20, 2011 as a new patient. My visit was somewhat pleasant but he seemed a little too unprofessional for my style. He talked a lot about his personal life, such as his old neighborhood, which from his conversation I gathered was in the hoods of South Central or Watts, which didnt concern me. He finally diagnosed me with swelling of my throat caused by a cold. He gave me a shot, which he only gave me a very brief description of the shot. He prescribed me prednisone, which was a medication that Ive NEVER taken. He said it would raise my blood sugar a little. The side effects of prednisone were nothing like he explained. I questioned Dr. Washington and my goodness; I thought I was speaking to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! He started raising his voice telling me “How dare you to question my expertise!” I was so thrown by his split personality that I had to ask him to stop YELLING at me. I calmly told him my concerns were all of the additional side effects that were not mentioned to me such as possible seizures; bloody stools, vomiting, mood swings and the list goes on! He told me if I were THAT concerned about the medicine NOT to TAKE it! I told him that that would not solve the problem and as my doctor I’m only coming to him for a better understanding than “your blood sugar will rise a little bit.” He then became totally irate behind my concerns to where he became SARCASTIC. He said “call me if you have a bloody stool, mood swings or muscle cramps!” He said and if you have a seizure call me too, and then he said “oh if you’re having a seizure you CAN’T call me!” I then said to him WHY are you being sarcastic towards me as your patient that’s totally uncalled for? Then he hung up in my FACE! I didn’t bother to call him back because I refused to argue with someone, who is the professional and should be concerned about questions that I have as the patient regarding my health.
