Minority based crowd, predominantly black and Hispanic. This is Still not the best, but not the worst. ER times vary, depending on the time and day. The entire place looks and feels very clean. The staff can be a bit hostel and needs improvement. The parking lot is ok, but wont recommend an overnight stay (your car). Keep a family member close by at all times when admitted and dont just leave your love ones unattended. They will need help if they cant speak English or are very sick, never-mind the translators or the personnel. The restrooms are clean and theres plenty of security on hand. When pulling up to the ER there are wheel chairs for immediate use in front of the entrance with glass sliding doors activated by a push of a button on the side. "They are not automatic" and they are located on the side of the entrance only. As far as the E.K.G they dont have sufficient amount of room to lay a person down to conduct an EKG scan. But what they do instead is laid a patient down on a half size bed to get adequate results. By far this place isnt perfect but by all means not horrible, although the people in question "patrons and staff members" can be a bit cumbersome/hostile to say the least and I would strongly urge caution when admitting someone to this hospital. Take caution at all times when at this premises. Be alert and stay focused.

My brother-n-law was taken there for his symptoms of stroke. TPA (Medication to dissolve clots) was never given to him (He was a candidate and meet the window alloted) he suffered 2 stroke while admitted. Now he has right sided weakness and they basically dumped him to a SNF that did not have his Physical Therapy covered under his Medi-cal although they kept insisting that physical therapy is what he needed...which I agree...but why dump him to a facility that didnt even provide physical therapy...smdh Although the hospital is very nice with new equipment....their doctors, especially their neurologist still lack bedside manners. As for the patients change of condition, why was it that family members had to point out changes to the staff? They lack the experience in assessing their patients correctly. Not very impressed with the new MLK. Their social service dont really bother to go the extra mile to provide what the patient needs as far as post care and their case manager lacks experience and the compassion needed to do their job efficiently. I hope they will be able to acknowledge and correct their limitations. I know they have big goals to expand the hospital....but I feel they need to fix their internal issues first before wasting the funds given to them from sponsors.

Horrible service! The hospital itself has improved...but the staff is just so rude & unprofessional! When I went to urgent care to accompany my mom which has (epilepsy) they asked her for her bday: in which I replied. The short lady around 24 with a blondish ombre rolled her eyes at me & said Im asking her, not you. After her responding to that I quickly told her she just suffered a seizure & is not fully in her senses. & right away she apologized. Dont judge beforehand specially if this is your profession.smh I also had to reschedule an appointment for her, in which the lady that helped me was being very rude!!!!! She asked me for a certain # in which I asked her where I can find it & she started mumbling stuff. Never even answered my question! I got mad & told her to be more professional & less rude & she simply said " hellooo, helloooo, helloooooo can I help you" "helllooooo" at the end of the day nobody was able to help me. They kept transfering me from # to #s. Just horrible service. They need new staff. People that would actually like to help & do their job.

I was going to rate them a 5 because, of the excellent work they did, in bringing my mother back, from being unresponsive. The reason why Im giving them a 2 is because while my mother was in ICU her fingers began to swell. She had on all of her jewelry. The head ICU nurse pulled her jewelry off of her. My daughter was sitting there and she asked the nurse for her belongings. The nurse told my daughter that she "didnt know her, and that she couldnt give my daughter her jewelry." It would go with her personal belongings. Well my mother stayed at MLK for three weeks and she was transferred to a Rehab facility without our permission and or knowledge. My daughter got a call at 3 am from the facility that she was there. Upon arriving I asked for her items. Again NO ONE knows where her jewelry is. It didnt follow my mother. Ive called MLK several times asking about it, and NO ONE knows anything about it. Im upset and someone needs to give us answers to where her items are.

Never in my entire life have I met or experienced a staff of professionals, that treats you as if you are an old friend. From Martha at admissions, to Julian the humble tech guy, to Tiffany the sweet intake nurse, to Monica the phlebotomist extraordinaire, to James the phenomenal RN whose gift of service and exhortation is sure to put MLK, Jr. Community Hospital in the health magazine as the Best Health Care Facility 2017. To Sondra the RN who in her busybodieness, still finds time to treat every patient with love and care. I cannot leave out the head. Even though they all moved as a team to one beat, the body is only as good as the head...Dr. Patrick Galich, Mr. Chicago Med. Thank you for being humble, and taking out the time with each patient making sure that each ones needs were met. Thank you for explaining everything to me as if I were a six year old child. I believe that it is team work that makes the dream work, and I tip my hat off to this entire team.
