Earlier this month I and an unrelated person where waiting in line in a hallway on the first floor at the Harbor UCLA Medical Records office for the purpose of retrieving our individual or another persons medical records. The line was long and there were no seats and I thought that I was going to faint from heat exhaustion.I knocked on the door of the Medical Records Office excused myself and asked If I could fill out the Authorization Form to facilitate the wait time along with another individual who was as a Caretaker attempting to pull the Medical Records for her patient to facilittae treatment and care. We were both flatly denied and asked to leave the office while there were 3 employees behind the glass and only one person being served. We both left immediately extremely frusrtated. I decided to leave the area and asked one of the Security Guards on duty if they knew who was in charge because I felt that we both were being treated unreasonably. The Security Guard informed us that there was an office for complaints and he showed us both how to reach the office. We individually spoke with a "Patients Rights" advisor and filed our claims accordingly. The wheels of motion started spinning as Iexplained that I previously tried to retrieve my mamagram results unsuccessfully by calling Harbor UCLA Nedical Center several times leaving a message and waiting for 48 hours, for a response as indicated by the telephone message. I also asked the original Immaging Center on the premises for assistance with this matter who pointed me in the direction of the "Medical Records Bldg" which was locked down like a "Maximum Security facility in a prision. I then went on line to Harbor UCLA Medical Center website and made a request and received a call the next morniing from a hospital affiliate who sent me to the "Authorization Department" where I encountered the above incident.. I am happy to report that this story has a happy ending. I got my medical records and I can now schedule my mamagram appointment and hope for the best thanks to: " Patients Rights" advocates abd their immediate involvement.

My 85 year old dad was treated here this week. The week prior, he was at the highly rated Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance for 7 days. They sent him home and he had to be rushed to Harbor 2 days later, in more critical condition. The difference in care was immeasurable. At Harbor, he was constantly attended to. There wasnt an hour that went by that he was not checked and assessed. At Llttle Co Of Mary, HOURS would go by without a nurse checking on him. The examination at Harbor was thorough, and they immediately discovered a problem that he had throughout the illness that LCOM did not. Once they treated it, he started improving. My dad has dementia, and we let both hospitals know that he would not respond to commands or understand not to pull on IV"s or masks. Harbor GOT IT, and they had a sitter who stayed with him to make sure he was okay. At LCOM, he pulled his IV 5 times that we know of, and they were unaware of it, even when changing IV lines. Theyd just change the meds and not check to see IV was still secure. (We found the pulled lines ourselves and had to call in the nurses.) . At Harbor, when I called to get an update, it was really easy to reach the nurse and she gave me a very thorough update, and did not try to rush me off the phone. At LCOM, if you could even reach a nurse it was a miracle. At Harbor, we saw the doctor every day, 2-3 times. At LCOM, we saw him twice in 5 days. When it was time to release dad, Harbor called us, gave us all the details. At LCOM, they didnt even know where to send him, even through we gave them the information several times. Based on the reviews for Harbor, I was concerned about him going here, but the excellent treatment he received belies the rating. Consistent, thorough, compassionate. This hospital was excellent.

The worst experience. I arrived at 11am at the ER room and left at 2am when I finally was called back to see a doctor I did not get to see a actual doctor but intern (I found out the person was a intern hrs later) the intern talk to me I had several health issues and he said I should follow up with primary care physician. I was told that he didnt think I needed to stay overnight in the hospital (this was excellent news to me) and made it sound like he would be discharging shortly. One hr goes by I ask the nurse who never got back to me I had to walk to the ER station where they where all congergate and then she finally ask doctor, or who I thought at the time was a doctor, if I could be discharged and was told he needed to get approval from "doctor. We ended up spending an additional 4hrs in the back and I was told that they didnt know when doctor would discharge me. My elderly mom who drove me was w/ me, we where both exhausted, hungry, and just feed up so I left so that I could get some rest. You are treated like cattle with a tracking number at this hospital. My experience was beyond disbelief and I would say go else where for emergency services. I will never return to this hospital again. Never. As an aside, I could hear all the nurse staff laughing talking about movies their personal life from my room in the emergency room. When your in pain and discomfort or when 12am rolls around you think the staff would show consideration to their chuckle and noise level so patients can rest while waiting. Run from this establishment if you have other alternatives it was a very depressing and demoralizing experience.

My family and I took our father to Harbor for he was having serious stomach pains, and that was Tuesday morning at 12:30AM. And we waited in the waiting room with VERY little assistance until up until Wednesday, 10PM, before leaving in obvious frustration! Just under 22 hours! We were constantly being pushed back in line by supposedly more important cases, but even these unfortunate souls waited a full day before anyone bothered to deal with their more serious injuries, including a head injury and a heart attack victim! In addition to our wait, my family were treated no better, if not worse, than the violent, handcuffed criminals and more unhinged homeless being admitted to the emergency room by the majority of nurses! Im guessing if youre some dangerous villain or pose a threat, these same nurses will treat you with human-like care and respectful courtesy. But if youre a fairly normal, well behaved person(s), forget it anything even resembling such! There were some good staff members who checked up on us, but they were very far and equally few in between, whose own positive actions were quickly and directly undermined and deliberately so by the aforementioned bad employees. After being told we were going to wait another 12-or-more hours, we abandoned Harbor, and my mother even outright insulted the most offending of the ill tempered nurses is clear English and quite bluntly before we left - the reaction of total bewildered shock on all the nurses and clerks all showed on their faces to the remark was quite telling.

This place is digesting. 4 sick people in one room. No wonder people dont get better until heir health!! This hospital hasnt even upgraded their damn TVs. They still have those TVs with the giant box in the back with limited English channels and one Spanish channel which is 34. Its a damn hassle to find parking here, because doctors, nurses and the facility doesnt have their own parking lot!!! I have to arrive an hour before my appnt to find parking. Next, this hospital lacks in bilingual nurses. They are all Asian nurses. Not to be rude or racist. They dont have patience to take care patients. One of them gave my mom a bed pan to use the rest without helping her and then, practically through the wipes at her to clean herself afterwards. Another nurse started yanking off the heart monitor cords in a rush that she also yanked off my moms IV. !!!!! I dont understand how this hospital is still running under horrible medical staff and limited resources and horrible parking situation. I recommend heading over to MKL Community Hospital. This is a great and amazing hospital that I regret not taking my mom to for her fourth emergency situation. But definitely, consider MLK Community Hospital and you will see and feel the difference in between medical staff and their resources.
