Kindred Review My wife spent six months in Kindred after a ruptured sub arachnoid brain aneurysm. We were referred to Kindred by Cedars Sinai, where she spent three and a half weeks in an induced coma. Cedars was at pains to explain to us ahead of time that Kindred was not Cedars and that we should not set our expectations too high. We went to visit and we were not put off at all. The environment is clean. Mostly shared rooms, and the staff are always busy at work. I want to say how impressed I have been with Kindred, and how grateful I am to all the staff there. They brought my wife back and helped her on her road back to recovery. Kindred is special place. I do believe the staff there take pride in their work. As always the atmosphere starts at the top. Philip is the CEO and he is ever present around the hospital. His door was always open to me. The doctors Kate had were fantastic. Starting with the attending physician Dr. Hourani. He is a pulmonologist, which is what you need when you are on a ventilator. He was awesome. I will never forget the look on his face when he told me that he thought Kate was waking up from her coma. He was beaming. He inspired a lot of confidence in Kate and me and clearly had full control of his team. We also had a great Neurologist, Dr. Giombetti, who identified Kate’s Hydrocephalus and I want to commend him as well on his ability to keep me calm in the face of some pretty challenging issues. I realize you want confident physicians around you. They have seen it all before! It’s not just the doctors. Everyone Kate and I came across at Kindred was so kind. After six months, I believe we met just about every RN, LVN and CNA that worked there. From Barb, the first person I met at the central nursing station, to Tiffany, the patient advocate, all the nurses (Daniel, Windy, Nadine, Latasha, Libertad, Lana, Maria, Adrian, Katina, Brenda, Francine, Wendy, Cheryl, Melody, Towanna, Teresa, Annalisa, Vesha, Helen, Lisette, Albert, Juhee, Terri, Judith), all the RT staff (Suren, Adam, Kamil, Tristian, Vladi, Annie) who I had less and less interaction with as Kate came off the ventilator and finally got rid of her Tracheotomy. You were so caring, without fail. Kate loved all the staff. They were so nice to her it amazes me. They work so hard. On their feet for 12 hours a day. Such physical work. They always went out of their way and never showed any impatience, even when Kate had to be changed so constantly. They deserve respect and courtesy. I think you are all miracle workers and we so look forward to coming back to see you again together, with Kate hopefully on her feet. She will love to see you again. Sorry if I forgot to mention your name. You know who you are and thank you for being so kind. Thank you to the nutritionist, Mary, and her team. You guys were so helpful and flexible with our needs. You rock. And thank you of course to the therapy team, lead by Scott. You have kick started Kate’s route back to physical independence. Lana, Shannon, Liah, Lea, Christine. You are all brilliant. Thank you to Grace and Sandra, who helped Kate in and out of the famous “chair”. It got her outside. A little window into the wider world after her trauma. You were so patient with her. Thank you. Thank you to all of the staff collectively. We went through a lot of ups and downs and I feel like we became family. We are so grateful to you for bringing Kate back. Everything else will be icing on the cake. You made me feel like there was always hope. You were so nice to all of Kate’s friends and family. I am in awe of you all. Keep up the good work. I know it’s hard with all the pressures from all sides. In the end, it’s the humanity of the place that distinguishes it. I recommend them highly. You get what you put into it. Be respectful and thoughtful to the staff and they will repay you in spades. They are good people. Not once did I see them disrespect a patient or a family member. Donuts help as well!! Kindred, we will be back. :)

Ive been a patient here at Kindred Los Angeles for a little over two and a half months. It has been a place of recovery for me; not only physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. The staff have been an excellent support system for me which includes nurses, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, unit secretaries, wound care, physicians, and the patient relations representative. The nurses have been excellent especially Nimfa, Michael, Tess, and Barbara. The physical therapy department is awesome especially Rudy. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. The unit secretaries are very friendly especially Doug, Nancy, and Kester. The wound care department has taken great care of me, and are very detailed oriented with their assessments. The physicians are excellent especially Dr. Hourani, Dr. Nouri, Dr. Pak, Dr. Zarrini, and Dr. Carol. Dr. Hourani is the best doctor I have ever had. He goes above and beyond to ensure that I receive the best care. He is very knowledgeable and knows exactly what he is doing. He is very honest, and truly cares about his patients. He has great bedside manners, and communicates to me the details related to my plan of care. I know my recovery would not be what it is today if it was not for him and his expertise. Dr. Carol is heaven sent. I cannot say enough about her, and her compassion for providing the best care. The patient relations representative, Tiffany, is the sweetest. She probably has the most difficult job at Kindred, but no one would ever know because she has such a beautiful personality that is filled with charm. The house keeping department is great especially Tyreq. The administrator, Mr. Wolfe, is very approachable. Basically, I am very grateful for my experience at Kindred, and the staff are exceptional!!!!

We are very thankful for the care my sister received at Kindred. Everyone treated us like family. The staff were very kind and caring. They were absolutely awesome! They go into work everyday giving 100%, and I believe that was the reason my sister improved. The rehab department especially Adam, Lea, Christina, Grace, and Sandra are extremely compassionate and provided the best care. They were always smiling, and very patient. The pharmacist, Bill, was very involved, and educated us about any medication we had a question about during my sisters stay. Kevin was a wonderful case manager, and fought to get my sister into the the rehab we wanted after discharge. He always kept us up to date along the way. The nursing and respiratory staff were knowledgeable and very helpful. They were great! All the physicians were great especially Dr. Hourani. He drove the best care during her stay, and his treatment plan definitely guided my sisters healing process! We are forever grateful for the care and treatment my sister received during her stay. Kindred is a place that truly works miracles!

My husband has been at Kindred Hospital Los Angeles for almost 3 months as a result of traumatic brain injury and subsequent surgery. I cannot say enough about how much I love this hospital, the staff, the care they have given my husband, the compassion they have shown to me and the pride they show in their own work. The doctors who have seen my husband, and in particular Dr. Weintraub and Dr. Giombetti, have been excellent. The RT staff (every single one of them!) are great. They explain what they are doing and why, they answer all of my questions and they never act like they are in too big a hurry to explain. The CEO, the patient relations director, the social worker and the case manager have all helped me on numerous occasions with everything I needed. The physical and occupational therapists and the speech therapist have been consistent and diligent in helping to move my husband along in his recovery. They do what they say they are going to do and they take pride in their work. I feel so good knowing that my husband is being well cared for.
