Last year we started bringing our two 8/9 year-old great danes to VCA Forestville. The first visit was in response to a dog-mergency. We woke up to find our poor pup not acting like herself. I called everyone I knew to ask for referrals since were from San Diego and hadnt found a regular veterinarian yet. A friend recommended VCA, specifically the one in Forestville claiming they were the best. I hesitated at first since I typically avoid going the big corporate route when it comes to pets (ie. Banfield, Pet Care) since Ive almost always had poor experiences with them. I didnt have time to waste in this case so I called. I was totally distressed on the phone - probably sounded like a maniac. From the get-go they treated me with sincerity and compassion. They booked me a last-minute appointment so I headed their way. We arrived and the staff were poised to get us in a room to see the vet right away. It was a matter of minutes before Dr. Hoffman came into the room. She is the sweetest person, she got right down on the floor to greet our pup. During the exam she explained everything that she was doing - telling us which signs were good signs and what would be concerning if she came across it. Of course she came across nothing because by the time we arrived, all the scary symptoms were gone. She gave us tons of information so we could monitor our dogs symptoms in case any returned. They didnt. Our positive experience brought us back to take advantage of the senior wellness package they offer for both our dogs. After the original scare, we decided the preventative method was the smarter route. The checkup was extremely thorough: complete blood, urine, fecal, and xrays. It gave us tons of insight, mainly that our beloved pets were healthy and that we could sleep peacefully. We have also boarded our dogs with them a number of times. Boarding at the vet isnt ideal for us, but when the person we have stay at our home isnt available its the next best thing. The staff are AMAZING with them! Our dogs never hesitate to walk in the door and are never "off" after returning home. Believe me, were super aware when our pet has been miserable all weekend. Weve tried boarding them at "pet resorts" and they never come back themselves. Totally not the case with VCA, they return as if it were any other day. I think its because of all the attention they are given. Long story short, this place is amazing. I love all the people at VCA. Whenever we visit, everyone knows who we are. It feels like home. I wouldnt take my pups anywhere else.

We have brought two of our cats to this Vet for health care. The first cats problems were abscesses from cat fights. Although very expensive, these events were handled satisfactorily. All along the way, during this cats life, we were nickled and dimed for everything from this place. But, they are in business to make money. Our second cat was brought for her initial physical examination, shots and other preventive stuff. Also, extremely expensive. This cat eventually developed a very serious urinary tract infection. After several hundred dollars we were told that the cat must have jumped from off of a high place and injured herself during landing. My thought was "oh, brother...cats know how to jump and land". They wanted to continue on with testing but I told them no because we did not have the money for it. We then brought her to another Vet who immediately diagnosed the problem and gave us the right antibiotic. Within 2 - 3 weeks the cat was back to her healthy self. We are still stuck with a $1,000 bill but have paid it down so far to $730. They charge 18% interest too. Unless youve got deep pockets and want to believe all of their sales pitches, AVOID THEM.

I read on the website about the holistic services they offer and I was excited to take my dog to receive holistic care. They said the first appointment was free and the receptionist was very friendly. When we arrived I noticed the dry dog food and vitamin supplements on the walls which seemed odd to me for a place that says they treat holistically. The front desk staff were very nice an welcoming. The vet tech took us back and told us how Toro (our perfectly healthy and happy dog) needed several vaccines, monthly medication, and vitamins. I was told that if we did not get these things he would suffer immense pain and it would be very expensive to treat. The vet came in with the same ideas. I interpreted their words and tone of voice that if I did not do these things I did not care for my dog. I feel they completely misrepresent their treatment style when they say they are in any way holistic. If you are looking for standard medicine this seemed like a very nice and professional place. We are now taking him to a place that really does holistic animal care in santa rosa. It is more expensive and I feel in both instances I got what I paid for.

We started bringing our dog here about three years ago, right after we adopted her. Unfortunately for her (and us) she has had quite a series of injuries, but we feel so lucky to have all of the staff at VCA Forestville. They helped diagnose and fix several problems, and for the better part of a year, we were there at least once a month if not more. They are so kind and caring, that even with all the pokes, prods, surgeries, etc. Our dog still loves to go to the vet! We cant thank them enough for all the work they did to get our girl back running and playing with us like new. Special thanks to Dr. Parra, Barbara and Vicki.

I would not recommend this animal hospital unless you have more money than brains. They try to sell you stuff you do not need and charge you for diagnosis that are wrong. They pretend like they care, smiles and giggles and they you pay! You pay and pay and the animals are secondary to the mighty dollar. I would find someone who REALLY cares and go there, be warned.
