This is an HONEST REVIEW and I was not paid for writing this. Please exercise intelligence when reading these other reviews--I had to laugh when reading that this doctor was touted as the best in O.C. and he gave such a thorough exam. Puleeze--what a complete joke. I KNOW FOR A FACT those words are NOT true because this was my HONEST EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SO CALLED VET: BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE!! Dr. Brinkas is prescribing UNneeded medicine to dogs that actually HARM EYES. No wonder there were a bunch of blind dogs and dogs with glaucoma in the waiting room!! Eye trouble = more money!! Think about this please!! He spent three minutes with my dog. THREE! And charged a whopping $276. Prescribed two medicines one which is a steroid to put in his eye for THIRTY DAYS and should only be used for ten days max. It states this right on the drug information--that it can cause glaucoma which can lead to blindness. PLEASE people do your homework and research before believing what a frumpy, shirt hanging out, obese man who is huffing and puffing, doesnt even introduce himself, doesnt inquire about your dog and spends three minutes with your dog then prescribes overuse of dangerous medicines. Do you actually think this person CARES about the health of your dog?? This is creating eye problems for dogs!! I did not use either medicine. Awhile later I took my dog to So. Cal Vet Specialty Hospital (had to wait for an appointment because she is so good). Dr. Mar spent 45 minutes with my dog giving him every test for the eyes and reported there was NOTHING wrong with my dogs eye! My dogs eye is fine. She charged $200. Why take a chance of blinding your dog!!??? PLEASE RESEARCH MEDICINES AND QUESTION UNCARING DOCTORS AND REPORT THEM TO THE CALIFORNIA VETERINARY BOARD--like I am!! Go to So Cal Vet--better, ethical and cheaper!!

Love this place and I cant say enough about Dr Esson! My dog JJ developed diabetes 3 years ago which caused him to get cataracts in both eyes and he went blind pretty quickly. I had to regulate him which was really hard so I couldnt do surgery until then which took a couple months. Meanwhile he was blind and his eyes were getting worse. When he finally did have the cataract surgery the staff said he had one of the worst eye cases they had ever seen..which I knew already. If it wasnt for Dr Essons patience, dedication and experience I know my dog would have been blind for the rest of his life which would have been horrible for the both of us! Dr Esson is extremely thorough before, during and after surgery. He couldnt put lenses in his eyes but my dog is so stoked he can see what he sees and is not completely blind anymore! The facility is exceptionally clean and efficient and the staff very professional and friendly. Dr. Esson is truly the expert in dog ophthalmology = I agree he should be cloned, and I thank him every day when JJ looks up at me and "smiles" as if to say thank you...Wonderful and Caring Staff too!! I was reading the reviews below about them pushing surgery..that is completely false. They prefer not to do surgery if its not needed..its about the dog here not the money!!! I know this for a fact as I have been taking my dog here for years. Sounds like fake reviews to me!!

I was referred here by my normal vet because my german shepherd had a small growth on his eye lid. After a $200 visit they told me the same thing that the standard vet told me, " most the time it nothing but a skin tag or fatty tumor but it could be something worse", they wouldnt know till they removed it. They want to put him under and get things going. I asked about pricing and they brought me the quote. $1800 to remove a small eye lid growth. Totally outrageous. I was only expecting to spend a few hundred and I did not have that type of money on hand. I asked, " why is this so expensive?", they said " because we are a specialist". I could not pay for that at the time and they said something about payment options. I left so I could get some other opinions and search around for a better price. 3 days later the growth fell out on its own. So now my dog is 100% tumor free. That would have been the easiest 1800 that this vet made. They knew it was nothing and tried to scare me into think my dog needed this surgery right away. Without the removal I would be risking my dogs life. They are criminals and will take advantage of anyone that will let them. DO NOT GO HERE

Dont make the mistake that I did, find another group/ eye specialist. The customer service is simply awful and the prices are beyond ridiculous! $50 for an IV catheter, really? Was quoted over $1800 for a simple removal of a non cancerous tumor on the 3rd eyelid. Totally a rip off. When I asked about the prices the EXTREMELY rude front office/tech manager informed me that, "we dont make the prices. If you dont like it, call corporate." I asked who I should speak with at "corporate" and was curtly told, "I dont know, follow the prompts I guess". I will NEVER return to this place. Honestly folks, I am in healthcare, regular Doctors dont come close to making this kind of money and if they tried theyd be run out of town. Its sad and sickens me that "corporate" companies like this take advantage of people who want the best for their pets by completing overcharging these very very high prices.

The vets here are good but very expensive for the amount of care. You wait and wait and maybe see the vet for 5 mins. They need to give better explanation of treatment, and long term care guidelines. I seriously walked out of here with drops and a bill for $200+. My dog seems to be doing ok but I do not know when or if we need to keep coming back for treatment or if her eyes will ever get better. Unless you ask specific questions you will leave here confused. Our regular vet at Bandfield gave us tons more information about our pugs eye issues then these guys. You can get good treatment here but be prepared to spend a minimum $200 per visit before meds and tests. Unfortunately this is the only pet eye specialist in north Orange County.

Would give 10 stars if I could. Dr. Brinkis gave my 3 yr old frenchie her sight back. Megan, erin, sara, and all the staff who have helped us since march, we cant thank you enough. Cataracts came out of nowhere and was reffered here. They love my pup as much as I do. Blown away by how nice and helpful everyone was. Even more blown away by the results. Left eye glowing and cloudy feb 5th. Came here mid february. Both eyes recommended. While waiting for march 1st surgery her 2nd eye got cloudy too. Thankfully she was only blind for a week. Seeing her walk out of surgery with her new lenses and able to see is one of the best moments of my life. Mahalo nui loa for everything.
