These vets (weve always seen Dr. Beasley in the past) have always fit us in last minute and always been very helpful. Once our dog ate a whole bag of raw cacao and they fit us in immediately in Eagle-Vail and induced vomiting ($180), another time our puppy had an eye infection right after we adopted her and they fit us in the same day and treated it with eye ointment (I forget how much, but it was less than $100). Recently (on New Years Eve) we got back from work and our puppy had chewed through a bottle of Advil and most of the bottle was gone (both dogs had eaten some but we werent sure how much). The next night one dog started vomiting blood so I took him in and he stayed over night. They told me it would be around $1600, I told them that I had a strict $1500 budget (it was the holiday and emergency hours, so it was more expensive from the start) and they called me the next day to tell me he had to stay another night. They said an additional night would be $350 so I assumed that would be on top of the $1500 budget, but when I picked him up the next day the entire bill with the extra night was $1550. They tried really hard to cut costs as much as they possibly could. Next the puppy started drinking and peeing excessively and I had to bring her in. She stayed over one night but it was in the middle of the week so it only cost $350. Since then theyve sent me home with fluids that I give both dogs through an IV because its considerably cheaper than keeping them at the vet. A previous reviewer commented on the "trauma" that they caused his dog by taking the dog in the other room to draw blood/treat infections, and that his dog cried and was scratching at the door to try to get out. They do take the dogs away to do bloodwork, and the dogs do cry... But its the vet and theyre getting stuck with needles, I dont know any dog that wants to be at the vet. The entire staff of veterinarians and vet techs is incredibly personable (at the Eagle-Vail and Edwards locations) and they worked day in and day out to save my dogs lives. They are all super nice to me and my dogs. Dr. Susan OBrien, Dr. Beasley, and Dr. Meynier have all been unbelievably helpful over the phone and in person and have gone out of their way to stay in my budget while making sure my dogs would be okay. If you dont want vets that will do the necessary bloodwork, or take the necessary action to save your dog (thereby causing "trauma") then go somewhere else. Or dont go anywhere at all. The previous reviewer saw Dr. OBrien and I can personally say that she is incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate, straightforward and immensely helpful, like all of the other vets and vet techs at Vail Valley Animal Hospital.

My wife took our pooch here today, saw Dr. Susan, and will never ever repeat the mistake. Were not even going to go there for the checkup. Our pup has long had ear infection. The old vet, even though an awesome person and an incredible dog lover, could never treat the deep infection completely, so we thought wed try a new place. We felt like finally finding someone that will treat the cause, not the symptoms. We got the same antibiotics and ear cleaning solutions as everywhere else, along with cocky comments on how much more effective their medicine was than the cheaper version "we must have used before". At home, I checked, ad it was the same stuff, they just charged us more. The worst part though was that they took the pooch away from my wife for ear cleaning. Through the wall, my wife then heard her cry and cry super loud, shake hysterically, and squeal in peain. When returned, she kept running around the room hyper ventilating, and scratching on the door, begging to leave the place. I have to stress that the dog is a setter from a show dog family, an extremely mellow buddy that all pets love for how easy she is. Seeing her this traumatized left my wife in shock. The other good reviews mention how amazing the other doctors are, and that may be true, but the feel of the entire place is greedy - we paid $262 for this treatment. I feel like we should instead get an apology for the trauma caused to our best friend. But we wont because this is an example of a place that makes use of the fact that they know more about pets than you, a place that thinks its OK to over charge you despite causing your dog a trauma.

The vets are very knowledgeable and the staff is fantastic. Everyone is really friendly. The facility is great as well. The only reason Im giving it 3 stars instead of 5 is that I feel they charge some unnecessary fees at times, which can make it really expensive. I had my dog in there 4 times in the space of about 3 weeks for a couple of pretty standard issues. The first time on 8/24 (spay stitch opened up a little) they did a comprehensive physical exam for $75, which I completely understand. Each successive time (8/27, 9/2, 9/16) regardless of the issue she came in for they did another $66 "medical progress or wellness exam" which took all of 2 minutes to complete (check ears, temperature, belly, weight eyes, etc). The 9/2 visit was because I thought she needed vaccines which she really didnt need for another two weeks. They still did the $66 exam, and shed been in 6 days earlier. The last time I was in there to do the actual vaccines, the rescue where I got her agreed to pay for her vaccines and the visit because they didnt get a chance to do them before I adopted her. They still charged the $66 exam fee even though I told them she didnt need it and that I felt bad that the rescue was going to have to fork out around $120 for the visit when I only paid them $150 to rescue the dog! The response seemed to be that since someone else was paying for it lets just do it and let them worry about that. So ultimately I feel like its a very good animal hospital, and I would trust them completely with my dog, BUT I do feel like the fees are a bit excessive.

My 12.9 yr old golden retriever, Rainier, just had major surgery to remove a splenic tumor by Charlie and his staff and while I knew they were awesomely terrific in ever facet of veterinary medicine before, they performed above & beyond my expectations very likely prolonging my goldens life than if we had not done the surgery. I cant imagine a better vet than Charlie and his staff and I have known several having dogs my whole life. He really and truly cares for each client and their animal as does his wonderful staff and really makes you and your animal feel comfortable, safe, and the top priority. If I werent an engineer, I would want to be a part of their wonderful office and staff, that is for sure. Im so glad Charlie came to the Valley years ago and bought the Eagle Vail Animal Hospital and started Vail Valley Animal Hospital. He and his staff really do this Valley a huge service by caring for all of its animals. They are the best!
