My beautiful 11 year old yellow lab is now on his death bed with mast cell cancer because of this place. 2 years ago he developed a cough that was asked about several times within the 2 years as it got worse. Dr Hensen insisted it was "old age" every time with no further concern, suggestions, or options to rule anything else out. Within the past couple of weeks, he had strange swelling on his paws, ears, violent vomiting, no appetite, and diarrhea. Every test imaginable was done with no abnormal results, and several trips back and fourth totaling well over $1,000.00 just within the past couple of weeks. Not once were x-rays suggested. We were given several different medications. One that if you can believe it, made him worse. He had every side effect of this medication. So we took him off to get it out of his system. Brought him back and she was insistant on keeping him on these meds that made him even more violently ill. No way. After 2 weeks and well over $1,000.00 later with 0 progress, we woke up to find that he deficated on himself while laying on the floor. We finally brought him to a vet in West Hartford where we told them the symtoms and they knew almost immediatly just from describing the symtoms. X-rays were taken and it was determined within an hour that he had mast cell cancer in his spleen that had spread to his chest. We are so devestated. As soon as I found out what it was I googled it. Seems that a cough is part of the spleen cancer. If we had caught this 2 years ago, he wouldnt be in this position today. All I had to do was google the diagnosis to find out that a cough is one of the signs of this cancer. You would think a vet would have a clue since it is extremely common in labs. The amount of money that was given to this vet to basically send our dog to his death bed sickens me. On top of all of this, the meds that were given that had absolutly nothing to do with his sickness. He is well and comfortable for now, but there is no way to tell how much time we have left with him, and it sucks.

Everyone at the office is very nice and caring. Dr. Hensen is very thorough and is happy to take the time to explain in detail and answer all my questions which I appreciate very much. She doesnt make me feel hurried, which I have experienced at other offices. When I was out of work, they let me make payments even though they dont typically do that. Very helpful! They will cut my cats nails during an office visit without charging extra when I ask them. About a year ago, I had to put one of my beloved cats to sleep. They were very supportive and kind. They made the whole terrible ordeal much easier to deal with. The only thing I disagree with is that they charge for an exam every time, regardless of what youre there for. For example, one time I had just spent quite a bit of money on a check up, shots, etc. for my cat. The whole workup. I had to return 3 weeks later for a booster shot and was charged for another whole exam even though my cat had just had a thorough examination three weeks earlier. In that situation, I just dont think that is fair. But that is the only negative comment I have, overall they are a great veterinary office and worth five stars.

We came to Somers with a very sick cat, looking for a second opinion. We didnt feel that the vet hed been seeing was treating him with a lot of love and he was our baby. Sadly, the diagnosis was bad and we had to have him out down shortly thereafter. But in that small window of time, he was treated with the utmost care. On the day we said goodbye, the staff was accommodating and caring, even crying alongside us. The next day, they sent us flowers, which was so thoughtful (and theyd made him a lovely coffin so we could bury him). We have been back with our other cat and our recently adopted new addition. Theyre very considerate and understanding, especially the vet. I feel like she truly has our cats interests in mind and she knows how important they are to us. Im so grateful we were able to find Somers for the last days of our little boys life.

I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new vet. When I came across somers vet online they had alot of great reviews but there were some I wasnt so sure about, I decided to try them anyways and im so glad I did!! The vet and staff here are amazing! They took the time to explain everything to me and answer all my questions. I never once felt rushed or like i was taking all their time. When i wasnt sure what I wanted to do they took the time to get up estimates for me and go over them. I never once felt pressured to do anything by the vet or her staff. I dont understand what some of these people are complaining about, maybe they just dont listen to what is said to them? I guess there will always be some bad apples in the bunch, none the less I will continue to bring my pets to somers vet hospital.

We bought our fifteen year old dog Mitsey to this hospital with a lump on her leg. Dr. Hensen performed surgery and the outcome was a tremendous success. Mitsey healed beautifully and there was no scarring. Dr.Hensen and the staff were very compassionate and patient. Many vets in the past did not want to treat our dog because of her health and age. Mitsey is strong and healthy today thanks to Dr. Hensen. We highly recommend this facility for their superb skillful knowledge and superior excellence.

Somers Veterinary Hospital was so caring and so compassionate for our cat, Joey. We just moved to the area and our escape artist found a way out and learned the hard way that there are other not so friendly animals hanging around our property. The staff at Somers Veterinary Hospital were so kind and gentle. They really cared about Joeys well-being. I appreciate their understanding and judgement-free attitude. Thank you so much Somers Veterinary Hospital!!

Three years ago my bearded dragon was having major health issues. I called the hospital and they got me in right away! Most importantly, Dr. Hensen answered all of my questions and explained in detail what needed to be done to get my pet food over his health hurdle. Her guidance, and the staffs phone calls to check in on his progress made me realize I had found the best vet! I now take my dog and cat to Somers and am so pleased to call them "my vet"!!

I have repeatedly visited Somers Veterinary Hospital over the years with my dogs and Dr. Hensen has been wonderful! The hospital hours are so convenient for someone who works full-time; but best of all is Dr. Hensen and staff. Dr. Hensen takes the time to explain her findings, and will answer all of my questions. The staff is on top of things and will even call back with lab results and ask for updates. Thank you for taking great care of my babies!
