Just like the other reviews online, service is HORRIBLE. I watched employees fighting and being rude to each other. The poor receptionist got yelled at by a tech because of misinformation provided to a patient, and the tech loudly started talking poorly about the patient! I overheard all the employees gossiping about each other AND patients. No one knows whats going on or how business should be conducted. One person says one thing to you and then next says something different. I was told that my insurance would cover a specific contact brand and was fitted into those contacts. Only to be told at checkout that I would owe the fitting fee because the insurance doesnt cover the brand for one eye, which means they wont cover the fitting fee either. I wouldnt have been fitted into those contacts had I known my insurance didnt cover it. Through this, I watched the staff bickering with each other over this issue, and talking badly about the others to ME!! They involved me in the drama saying this person doesnt know what theyre talking about, this person doesnt make sense! I could NOT believe how incredibly unprofessional they all are! Dr. Kumar is incredibly sweet, and the only good thing about this dump of a place. However, I watched the staff roll their eyes at her when she came out to help resolve my issue. They have absolutely no respect for her. But worst of all was how the lady at the optical center talked to me during this. I was merely asking for clarification and she got loud and so incredibly rude and demeaning towards me. Also my appt was for 10:30, and I did not get taken back until 45 minutes later! I was not done my appointment until 1 o clock!! I have never had an issue here before in the 10 years I have been coming here. But now, I outright HATE this place. I will never recommend anyone to go to this or trust this unprofessional, rude, and horrible center with their health. Save yourselves and go anywhere but here and I promise youll do better.

I dont know what these bad reviews are about. I took a gamble and went to DE eye care when I moved to DE. The new patient forms were available online and I could fill them out at my house before even showing up. I was somewhere around 20-30 minutes early for my appointment and I was seen right on time which is not an awful wait time. I was notified up front that there would be a $75 fitting fee for wanting to be a first time contact lense wearer, and was asked if I wanted to continue with the contacts. That didnt seem unreasonable. I googled this fee and people reported paying anywhere from $60 to $120 for this service, so $75 is ok with me. The woman I dealt with at the reception desk was very nice and the woman who did my tests before I saw the doctor was wonderful (Ill call her the "eye nurse" for lack of a better term). I did think it was a bit strange that the "eye nurse" that I saw was the one to determine what my prescription is. In my experience, it has always been my doctor to do this with me. However, she followed all of the "regular" steps that I am used to and seemed to really know what she was doing, so Im ok with keeping the prescription she thinks is necessary. Albeit my actual appointment with Dr. Esaka was a brief 15 or so minutes, she was kind and professional and explained what she saw when examining my eyes. My trial contacts were available for me to come in and try 1 week after my initial appointment. I agree the September 2010 entry doesnt sound like a patient to me, but none of these entries sound like what I experienced. I even got my eyes dialated when I went to the doctor and they OFFERED me some cheap shades to wear home. Granted, I have not seen any bills from my new contacts, but so far the experience has been a good one... It sounds to me like DE Eye Care has come a long way since 2008.

Yes, you will have a long wait. No, the people are not rude or incompetent. They have a job to do and you are not the only one there, so they are trying to complete everyones paperwork. They may assume that youve been to an eye doctor before and know how most things work. Such as, when they put in the dilating eye drops (mydriatics), youll need sunglasses, or they may assume that when they sit back from the instrument, you will sit back from the instrument. Any doctor will give you the prescription they think is best suited for you regardless of whether or not it is covered on your insurance. They may try to work with you on a suitable alternative, but first and foremost is your well-being, not your coverage. Lastly, you are paying for a service, you should always be asking questions. If you blindly walk away from a mechanic without asking questions, most people would assumed you got ripped off. The same goes for any other service you pay for, you dont go into your family doctors office and just say "Im sick" and accept whatever he/she tells you, why do it at an eye doctors office? Ive been wearing glasses for over 20 years, and have been to numerous eye doctors. The wait maybe longer than Id like, but any wait is longer than Id like. They are friendly if you take the time to be friendly to them first, and they have a good selection of frames, not the best, but its not wal-mart so Im happy.

Ive been a customer for years. When I started as a patient you paid an upfront contact fitting fee and from then on it was included as being a patient. When they were recently sold that program went away. I could understand grandfathering it for existing customers. Fortunately, I had enough contacts to get by until I decided to go with multi-focal. I was in for my regular checkup and said maybe I should look into a new type of lens. Told both the tech and doctor I didnt bring a check or credit card to pay the fitting fee. Knowing I had to come back in two weeks for a followup and that until I paid they wouldnt release my prescription anyway we all agreed I would pay in two weeks when I came back in. Well, when I spoke to the person in charge of the billing for the fitting fee and that I would pay when I came back told me they were not supposed to give me contacts until I paid. I took them out and put them on the desk. She took them and almost threw them away until I made a stink and she said that they would bill me. This place is all about the money. I like the doctor he is great but the administration of this organization is very poor. I have an eye condition that requires me to be seen every six months. Dont want to leave the doctor but at this point I cant take a medical provider who cares more about money than patients.

Wait time and service time are definitely an issue. I am a University of Delaware student that has been wearing contact lenses since the 6th grade. I chose this eye care center a few weeks ago to renew my prescription and get another batch of contacts. After filling out insurance papers and personal information, I went through the whole eye examination and contact fitting process, which was quite lengthy in comparison to any other eye doctor Ive been to. Not because of rigorous measurements, but because of waiting. When I got to the checkout desk, it was determined that my insurance, THE SAME INSURANCE I PROVIDED WHEN CHECKING IN, wouldnt cover the contacts I was fitted for. I was put through the entire process again, and with a different technician, providing all the same information and answering all of the same questions, instead of using the same technician/nurse as before. I will say that they were friendly, but not the most proficient at their job. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. It is no surprise that after wearing contacts for about 10 years and being problem free, the contacts I have no have caused me nothing but problems and discomfort. wont be going back
