I came to Dunedin Animal Medical Center because of the fantastic reviews I saw after just moving to the area. I had the most wonderful vet in Brandon and have gained high expectations from their example. I had to bring my 17 year old cat Sammie in after a weekend stay at the hospital from a Hypoglycemic episode. Hes diabetic, in renal failure, and now has developed anemia. I previously set my account up with Dunedin Medical Center over a month ago when Sammie needed his nails trimmed, and I brought in all his records, including bloodwork, so they had a comprehensive view of Sammies difficult case on file. The receptionist scanned his records that I brought while Sammie had his nails trimmed. She even brought them to me afterwards and said "all done." Well, fast forward to this trip. He had bloodwork done to see where he stood. Hes declining rapidly, and we need insight on his overall health to get an idea of what our next step is, or if its time to say goodbye. The bloodwork came back the next day, and the doctor called. He only focused on the issue of anemia, while ignoring kidney, diabetes, and the other numbers. Though, the anemia number is definitely alarming, we need the view of all of it, to see if we should seek more expensive tests. I told him that, in which he replied he did not have Sammies previous numbers to compare. I told him his office has it. He said it wasnt in front of him. That infuriated me, and I did go off on poor Dr. Williamson. I need to know a vets assessment, which includes the comparison of his previous numbers to his current, which Sammies previous vet always did so in detail. I was so mad since he stated it wasnt in front of him, which gave me the impression he was too lazy to go to the computer and look. He repeated they didnt have the numbers. I told him I brought the physical file myself, so I know they have them. I declared I was going to contact my previous vet, since I can trust her to actually help Sammie and hung up on him. I then went into the office and picked up his blood test results. I asked about his previous records. Apparently, they were NEVER scanned into the system. The receptionist pulled out a stack about 6 inches high and said it could be in the unscanned paperwork pile. I told her it couldnt possibly be in there since I brought it in over a month ago. She said the paperwork can be over a month old in the stack. I understand getting behind on scanning, but over a month old is unreasonably extreme, especially in a medical facility. If I was told that his records were never scanned, I would have brought them in again, and I definitely wouldnt have yelled at the poor doctor (I am very sorry Dr. Williamson). If an office that handles my beloved cats health cannot even scan paperwork from over a month ago, or communicate efficiently with patients and each other, then I do not trust them to actually provide adequate care for my animals. I now have to anxiously wait for my previous vet to open tomorrow, so I can get them involved in Sammies care. It is very painful to watch your baby decline, and to know he is probably at his end. This experience is small in comparison to things that could cause a bad review, but it is causing more hardship on my family as we wait for answers we should have gotten today. I still gave two stars because the staff are nice people, and I feel bad putting up a negative review. But, I feel like potential pet parents should be aware of my experience, so they can be mindful of an issue that this office has.

I took my puppy here for her first vet visit after we got her. She received all of her shots and care for 6 months at the Dunedin animal clinic. Shortly after she turned 8 months she developed skin allergies. The clinic and I spent 6 months trying to figure out a resolution. In those 6 months I spent hundreds of dollars trying to figure out the issue. After no resolve I was sent to an allergy specialist to perform an allergy test. This cost an additional $600 however the results were unclear weather the allergy was food or environmental. Furthermore, the treatment the vet at Dunedin animal clinic proposed were monthly steroid and antibiotic shots to keep the dog comfortable. As you can imagine at this point all of her fur was shedding and she had hives all over. The worst part was I felt helpless in helping her. But I also didnt think it was fair to put a puppy on steroid injections and antibiotic injections on a monthly basis. I did some research of my own and found out that switching to hypoallergenic food can help with dogs who have skin allergies. I brought this up to the vet and she said "I cant justify putting this dog on vet food yet". I was in disbelief. After arguing to try the food. She wrote a prescription for "annalergenic " I couldnt believe this. I demanded a prescription for hypoallergenic food as this dog clearly has allergies. Im only writing this review because I am in total disbelief that this vets main concern was taking hundreds of dollars out of my pocket and not my pets well being. I called a different vet and told them what was going on with my dog over the phone. Without any problems they told me to stop by and they gave me a bag of the Royal canine hypoallergenic food for FREE to try. In just under two weeks my dog was a new dog. Her hives disappeared all of the redness in her paws and on her belly had dissipated and her fur was starting to grow back in the areas she had sores. I couldnt believe it. I am so happy that I didnt opt for the injections. Do your own research. It appears some vets dont have your dogs best interest at heart. Im never recommending this vet to anyone.

Today my family and I had to make the difficult decision to put down our 13 year old lab. It was honestly one of the hardest decisions to have to make.. you feel the need to get every last day with your best friend but know that sometimes it is most fair and in their best interest to be put down. As a family we have never had to make this decision with a dog and the staff from the front desk to all of the Veterinarians were absolutely the most supportive and comforting group of people you could ask for. When we walked in we werent sure if we could make something else work, if there was one more treatment we could have done to get to spend more time with him, but in the most reasonable and comforting manner the techs examined him and the veterinarian let us understand that he had a great life and his time with us would not be comfortable or much longer for him. You want to feel like he is still the same puppy that could fall over and get right back up again, but with their guidance we understood ourselves that he didnt have it in him anymore. They offered us to leave the room or stay with him through the process, which we chose to do, and throughout the entirety I felt as if they treated our dog as their own, comforting him just as much as we did ourselves. The gentleman at the front desk was very comforting on our way out, as well as the tech who we met once before on his last visit there. It is a very difficult circumstance to loose your pet, and we are all dealing with that feeling right now, wishing he was still here to bark at us for a treat just one last time, but as we have been reminiscing I thought it would be important to write this review while all of the memories of our parting with our dog were fresh and as we praised, among ourselves, the outstanding level of comfort and care provided by everyone here. I hope this will help in anyone reading this reviews decision making process on the proper choice to make in the passing of their own pets and where a great option to go to for any pet care is as well. Thank you all again!
