I purchased a puppy at an establishment called "Paws and Bones" on Bird Road in Miami. I was given a health certificate for this little puppy with a name of a DVM and a stamp "Westwood Veterinary Clinic". The Certificate stated that the puppy was parasite free and in good health and this certification was good for 30 days. I bought the puppy within 30 days of the certification. Immediately after bringing the puppy home, I noticed that the puppy was having breathing difficulties. To make a long story short, this puppy has spent the last 6 days in another Animal Hospital with an IV in her neck keeping her alive. She has 2 different kinds of parasites in her and a severe upper respiratory infection. She cannot eat and is skeletal. With proper care she may pull through. When I called Westwood Veterinary Clinic, the "office manager" told me that the owner (a DVM) was having her lunch and could not come to the phone, and the so called veterinarian who had signed the certification only worked there once a week and she was not there. I left my name and telephone number and requested a call back. I am still waiting. I have checked with Tallahassee to see if the "DVM" that signed the Health Certificate is truly licensed, but nothing came up under the name listed. I will follow through with a call to the licensing board in the State of Florida on the off chance that she has changed her name (is using a married name, etc.). Very disturbing and very sad.

Dont trust them! These people were my dogs veterinary for several years. Following is a list of the things that made me switch vets. *They dont understand dog behaviour (they used to make my dog extra anxious by being super hyper, no calming approach used). * They are very expensive and recomend unnecessary frequency of vaccinations/boosters. *They failed to properly assess and diagnose a dangerous problem with my dogs health despite numerous complaints I made about his changing behavior and symptoms. * Because of their failure to asses and diagnose my dog had to have emergency surgery. *As a result from a poorly made incision my dog had a long and painful recovery. *Then either from failure to perform surgery correctly, failure to assess throughly post surgery or failure to recomend appropiate care the problem reoccurred so my dog had to had the same surgery soon after (this time of course by another vet). *When I went to pick up my dog after surgery he was carelessly dropped on the floor instead of gently placed in my arms (note that he is a very small dog and had a large wound on his belly). He was dropped on the floor from a standing position by an employee named Paco.

i have brought my dog in to see this veterinarian since it was about a year old - he is almost 5 years old now. we have a very healthy and active dog, so visits to the vet have been seldom. however, last night we noticed that he was a little "off", you know - not normal. this morning i took him to this vet and about 5 minutes into the visit the vet tells me that it will be $627 for them to begin to do tests on him! i was shocked and told her that i could not afford that. so she tells me that i need to sign a bunch of waivers. i was like, wait a minute, how about telling me what is wrong with our dog first? she just looked at me, walked out of the room and sent her assistant in to collect the waivers that i needed to sign. 10 minutes later i am being billed for $173! they handed me a bag with 6 cans of food, an antibiotic, and a food stabilizer. that was it? canned dog food? our dog still looks sick. i felt as if she was not willing to help but rather more interested in charging for anything and everything. i know times are tough now, but how about a little consideration for your clients? think twice before bringing your pet here.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE! THEY ARE PRACTICING WITHOUT A MEDICAL LICENSE!!!! Please ask to see their licenses before you leave your beloved pet. I am in the middle of a lawsuit with them as I write this. I am sueing for malpractice, these are unlicensed vets, cutting open & performing surgery on unsuspecting victims. I REPEAT, NO MEDICAL LICENSE!!! Also, PLEASE BEWARE that they work with several puppy mills. Anywhere that you purchase a puppy and it says "approved by Westwood Veterinarian Clinic as healthy to adopt", its because these crooks signed these poor animals off as healthy, you pay along of money & adopt the pet, take him/her home to your family, then out if no where your puppy will start fainting or showing signs of illness, and youll end up taking it to their clinic, where it will more than likely die, as they are NOT LICENSED PROFESSIONALS. This happened to a friend of mine with this clinic, in the which they purchased a Boxer puppy that later had heart failure, from a heart condition it was born with.

First of all the veterinarian is extremely expensive. I used to take my dog there and the bill was always insanely high. I switched vets, but continued taking my pooch there for grooming. Bad idea! Two times they cut his testicles, I let them know and the next couple of times it stopped. The last time I took him in, he had a really bad (round) cut on the back of his neck (and small cuts in other places), they told me that it was a ring worm and that they could treat him, but it was going to cost $250. The following day I took him to his vet and he said that it was definitely NOT a ring worm but a razor burn (ring worms glow under a darklight). So not only did they cut him and try to pass it off as something else, they also tried to rip me off. Please do not put your dog through this torture.

although the vet is very friendly, she doesnt speak very much english, which makes it difficult when my non-spanish-speaking boyfriend takes our dog to the vet. the staff is really great, very friendly, and great with animals. we decided to go for their puppy plan (annual pet insurance-type of program), but our visits are still expensive. weve been to the clinic about 4 or 5 times in the past couple of months, and our bill has averaged about $200-$250 per visit, which is quite a bit of money for us. despite spending this much money and being prescribed several different medicines, our pups skin allergy problem has not been resolved. i think this vet might be a good choice for routine care, but she hasnt helped much with our specific problem. as such, were choosing to switch vets.

This used to be my regular vet clinic - it was pricey but I liked the people and my dogs didnt mind it as much as other clinics. When I found a homeless dog I brought him there to be checked out before I looked for a home for him. They told me he had heartworms and it would be $700 to treat. They said it was usually $1100 but they were giving me a good deal since he was homeless. I called another vet who I had never seen before but who had a good reputation from rescue groups in the area. He said heartworm treatment was usually close to $500 but he would do it for $300 since this was a homeless dog. I cant believe Westwood tried to rip me off in helping a homeless dog! If they would do this, I think they are capable of anything.
