Amazingly, I totally disagree with the reviews below. A couple of weeks ago, my pride and joy, Zack, sustained an injury to his right eye after 10:00 p.m. Utilizing the yellow pages, I came across this facility and decided to bring Zack there because they were within 4 miles of my residence and they specialized in traumatic situations. Honestly, this was the best decision I could have made regarding my 9 yr old Shih Tzu. First of all, the answering service answered my call right away and indicated the doctor will be contacting me momentarily. Within 3-5 minutes, I received a call from the doctor himself and within 15 minutes, Zack and I were greeted at the entrance door by Dr. Ratnoff. He exemplified geniune concern for Zack -- Dr. Ratnoff specifically and thoroughly explained, in detail, the options that were available to us. At no time did he ever mislead me. Eye surgery was performed on Zack the next day, with follow-up visits twice per week. It has been two weeks since that terrible tragedy and I can truly say, "Im one satisfied customer." Although the chances of Zack having sight in that eye was 20%, Im here to tell you Zack has sight in that eye and he is back to normal -- as if he never missed a beat. Zack, admittedly, is a difficult patient in that he bites and snarls when feeling afraid or around strangers. I explained this behavior to Dr. Ratnoff and at no time did he or his staff make me feel as though my baby was unruly or out of control. Zack has a history of a herniated disc and they even worked gingerly around that pre-existing condition. When muzzling him, they were cognizant of both his back and eye. I cant say enough how extremely satisfied I am with the attention and care Zack and I received while going through this ordeal. Lastly, when it comes to the financial aspect of the services, I guess that is a matter of the mindset of the individual once they enter the premises. I love my Zack and price was secondary to me -- I wanted my baby to be whole; that is, out of pain and with his eye (even if cosmetically). Prior to the first overnight stay and immediately after the initial analysis and explanation of options, Dr. Ratnoff printed and explained in detail the services he would be providing, along with the fees for same. I felt the fees were not a "rip-off" but totally in line with any other Emergency Animal Hospital. Even the follow-up exams and prescriptions were not extravagant. I highly recommend Dr. Ratnoff and his team/staff to any and all who truly love their pet. On a personal note, I dont consider myself to be a very emotional person; however, looking into my Zacks eyes and seeing his distress got the best of me. Dr. Ratnoff was observant, caring, instinctive and sensed my angst. Although Zack was his primary patient; I was his secondary patient -- he sensed I needed to know this was not his first eye surgery on an animal. When he firmly shook my hand, looked me in the eye and then, gave me a reassuring hug, I knew Zack would be taken care of. When surgery was complete and Zack had recovered from anesthesia, Dr. Ratnoff called, as promised, to give me the prognosis. I can go on and on about my experience; but, sufice it to say, I am a number one fan and I totally appreciate the job Dr. Ratnoff and his staff performed on Zack. If I had to do it all over again, this is the specialized team I would entrust Zack to. They truly care.

My wife and I recently moved from from North Florida and we were looking for a vet to call home for our 5 year old Pomeranian, Angel. I am extremely attached to Angel and since we do not have children yet our animals are our children. Oakland Park is about 30 minutes from our current home but based on all the reviews and talking with them over the phone. We decided to give them a shot. We are SOOO glad we did. We originally intended to have Angel fixed because she had been breed and raised to have puppies but since she was getting older we decided to move along with the process of having her fixed. We also wanted to have her teeth cleaned. We had our initial visit and I was impressed. The staff and and Dr.s are outstanding. They are knowledgeable, kind, courteous and most importantly loving to all animals. We arranged the time for the procedure to have Angel fixed and we went forward with it. I am extremely attached to my animals and care for them many times over. Letting Angel get the procedures done and having to stay over night was very difficult for me. The Dr. called us before and after the surgery and I was very impressed. The Dr noticed that Angel was reacting poorly to the anesthesia and decided to not move forward in fixing her. I was taken aback, that sealed my feelings towards Oakland Park. Right there proved to me that the Dr.s cared more about the animals and less about putting money into their pockets. I thank God for them. So Angel and us have been back for checkups, year shots and nail clippings. Just recently actually just TWO days ago, at about 9:30PM Angel started to cough and have trouble breathing. We started to get extremely concerned and we called Oakland Park (because they are a 24 hr emergency clinic as well which is another reason why we chose them). The Dr was prompt in meeting us at the clinic and cared for Angel and treated us like family. We did not get back home till about 12:30AM and still the Dr was willing to help in any way possible. Angel is doing much better now. The Dr knew EXACTLY what to do and was able to help Angel get back to herself. The knowledge that the Dr has shared with us which allows us to be better pet owners is amazing. I look forward to a LONG relationship with Oakland Park Animal Hospital. God leads you to some places for a reason and I know God led us to Oakland Park for a reason. I pray God continually blesses them and allows them to prosper. So in short, I would recommend Oakland Park without a shadow of a doubt and so should you! But dont take my word for it. Make an appointment and see for yourself. I know you will not be disappointed. God bless.

Ive been a client of this clinic for a very long time and have found nothing more than caring people and a reputable, beyond caring doctor. I take GREAT offense to the review below from a person with a sick cat. Im sorry for your loss but your unfairness in your words irks me to no end. Did anyone notice MIDNIGHT and a comment about his tiredness? which means this person woke him from a sound sleep and he gladly left to tend to a sick animal which Im going to bet wasnt even his patient. Regarding a credit card...perhaps there is more to the story there like: was the card signed? Did the name and address match? Was he being very careful considering the amount of fraudulence going on with credit cards? AND notice....he didnt even ask you for the card first, correct???? As far as being the only soul....you show me any veterinarian who has a full staff on at MIDNIGHT. If you are going to write a scathing review then present both sides and considering what my animals have been through and how hes cared for them, I find your post horrible. Again, perhaps it was your upset nature at the time but I would rethink before posting during critical moments. To set the record straight: This staff is highly knowledgeable and yes, will offer suggestions as to products if needed. And if one or two people were a little off in attitude during the day, consider the number of people they see and their attitudes then see if you can be charming, wonderful and sunny for 20 hours knowing that someone just might wake you at 3 AM for an emergency.
