I was extremely disappointed with my first and last visit to Dr. Shamika L Honeyblue at Total Vision Care. Unfortunately, I was mistreated and quite frankly ripped off. I called, emailed and sent a letter giving her a chance to make things right but did not get any response at all. I hadn’t been to an eye doctor in over a year so I thought I would try out this practice since it is close to home and work. I wanted an eye exam and wanted my insurance to pay for my contact lenses since my insurance gives me an allowance to get them every year. However, the doctor used up my insurance allowance on a service which I did not need or want. Furthermore, I did not know until 45 days later after the visit when my contact lenses finally arrived at the office; that I would have to pay for my contact lenses. It was then I was informed that she charged me a “contact lenses fitting fee”. I told them several times that I had been wearing contact lenses for 10 or more years. I already had my prescription which included the size of my lenses. The fitting was unnecessary. So all in all, terrible business practices. My visit was at the end of February. I had to call many times to find out when my lenses would be in. Finally on one of my many calls I learned they were in (45 days later). Then when I went in to get them, I learned that I was being charged for them. Here I thought the whole time I was waiting that I was covered. I believe that they hid the fact that they were charging me this extra fee because I asked many times to ensure my insurance pays for the lenses and nobody said a word. The truth was withheld just long enough for my insurance company to pay out. Dishonest practice!

I had been going to this location since it opened and even saw Dr. Haines while she was working at Walmart. I loved her and her husband, they made a great team and I always looked forwarded to going every year. When the practice was bought by Dr. Honeyblue, I decided to stay and see how things went. I didnt think I received the same level of care and when I had an issue, I didnt think it was handled properly. It was pushed to the back burner and then when I needed a trial pair of contacts to see if I could wear them again, it took over 6 months to finally receive a trial. Dr. Honeyblue is very nice, but after Dr. Haines, I have very high expectations.

Dr. Honeyblue and her assistant, Emily, are a great team and are both incredibly friendly. A great and effecient experience for my first visit. I didnt feel pressured to buy expensive frames like some places would. Emily already ran my insurance benefits by the time I got in so I could make an informed decision, and the whole process went smoothly. No need to look further; Im glad I found my new eye doc for the area!
