Review of Labor & Delivery unit only: We began in the labor room with Shannon and Annette. From the very beginning the nurses were encouraging and complimentary which gave me the confidence I needed to have a natural delivery. As the contractions began to intensify, they were helpful with suggesting different positions and ways to relieve the pain naturally. I was told by Annette that there would be a moment (transition) when I would want to give up, but that I could do this! Armed with the confidence and encouragement of the staff and my husband, I was able to have a successful and healthy natural delivery. Even during the moments when the pain was the worst and I was not at my best the nurses always had a great attitude and continued to provide genuine encouragement and care. The nurses made sure that I was able to rest during some of the contractions to gain my composure and not rush me through those intense moments. At around 7 am a shift change occurred and a new nurse was brought in, and again she provided much needed encouragement and advice. Once our baby girl was born, the nurses attended to each and every need I had. I remember getting juice and crackers at lightning speed, as well as extra warm blankets. She even reminded me that even though the pain was intense, I would forget the pain and just remember the joy I was feeling now. We both want to specifically highlight Chandra and Kim who helped us in our recovery room. Chandra kept a positive and upbeat attitude every time she talked with us. She was eager to teach and share her knowledge with us, and was never phased by our first timer questions. Chandra noticed that I wasn’t given a stool softener, and Witch Hazel when I was transitioned out of labor and delivery, and worked to get it for me quickly. She paid very close attention to our daughter, saw her respiration change, and took immediate action to make sure she was okay. She did so in a way that would not worry us as new parents, and yet kept us informed the whole time. Chandra also offered to take our daughter at any point during the night so we could get some sleep if needed. We could tell that she truly loves what she does by the way she cared for us and our new daughter. Kim told us of all of the benefits of the hospital, including the birthday meal we could enjoy together. She was friendly and warm to all of our guests. Kim took the time to educate us as parents, and make sure that we were comfortable during each step along the way. Kim, like the rest of the nursing staff always asked what she could get for me each time she was in the room. Kim’s attitude and smile made every interaction a pleasure. My husband and I could not be more impressed with the level of care each and every nurse showed for us. It seems to be a standard at this hospital because we were always in great hands with each nurse that came. My husband and I plan on having more children in the future and will always choose a doctor that delivers at your hospital.

Much to be desired... We checked in on September 1 to have my love had a upper cervical fusion back surgery. First of we were never told to show up later as her surgery was moved from the early AM to the PM. So she arrives on an empty stomach and no meds. Hungry and in pain, we are asked to go to the check in area, where they start shaking you down for money. While the insurance is all approved and they spend three hours with her the week before now they decide to ask $250. We say no way and we move on. She goes up to her waiting room, where we wait and we wait and we wait. Now we understand that the surgeon contracts to prioritize the surgeries so it may not have been the hospital but the weirdest thing kept happening. One nurse after the next kept coming and asking her what she was having done. Like do you ever read the charts? Wasnt this the same hospital that cut off the wrong leg? I did have lunch while all this was going and the best part of this place is the food. Top notch I must say with lots of healthy options. Ok back to the procedure. one nurse promises me that once my girl goes in she would call me on my cell to keep me informed. i thought this was awesome. So 6 hours later she finally goes in, and I get a phone call. I never got another phone call, the procedure was more serious than expected and it went over the 2 hour mark. This really freaked me out as I am thinking the worst as this nurse never called me again, why promise something then not do as promised. So she gets out of surgery and after the volunteers go home after 5pm the place is a ghost town with no communications. I finally find her by literally forcing my way into a restricted area. She is on a hospital bed recovering and they tell me her future room number. I go up to her room and wait for her but there is another woman in there. So I go back down, apparently they did not have a room for her POST Surgery!!! WTF, how do you not have a room ready?! you are charging like 10k to be there.... anyway finally I have to leave as I am about to kill someone, and go home to my kids as they get her into a room with some old woman that cant shut up all night. My girl throws up a few times that night they kept trying to get her to take pills, while this woman is complaining or not letting her sleep. Finally I get in touch with her first thing AM and she begs me to come get her. I do as asked and I am there immediately as they allow her to be released. Now after the release it took another hour to get out as they only had one wheelchair on the floor to discharge people. Overall, the doctor did a great job on her so far and we are extremely grateful. But this hospital, this hospital is the closest thing Tampa has to a third world. I would strongly advise this place get re-engineered, and cleaned up because a one star might be generous.

Scary, scaaaaary hospital... please keep your loving parents away from this place. Came in Sunday morning because my mom had several syntoms and pain that were concerning with us because she has a pre existing heart condition, numerous test were conducted but they could not find what was wrong so they said, "we need to do an MRI on her to find out what is wrong". During the blood test extraction a tech poked my 77 year old mom 4 times and could not find the vein, saw my mom almost in tears so he decided to get a real nurse to help him, the nurse found the vein at the first try, they should have these kids make mistakes or practice runs with dummies or dead bodies in school not with a 77 year old lady or my mom. The MRI was scheduled for that afternoon, later postponed for in the evening, I left to attend to her puppy and my family, when I came in the morning still no test was performed, she was medicated, signed up for additional treatment, how if they didnt know what was wrong with her and the only test that could give them a diagnostic had not been performed???? While waiting for the test a lady in front of my face tried to force her to sign for additional treatment, treatment for what when there was still not a diagnosis??? I heard the nurse or tech and I am no Doctor but the treatment did not make any sense to me so I asked if she had the correct pacient and to my surprise she had the wrong person and name. Not sure what is going on in this hospital..., too many college students using our parents as test dummies?, not properly staffed?, or trying to extend services?, not sure. Keep your parents away, scary.
