NOT AN EXOTIC ANIMAL VET!!! Specifically Mr Lassett. Very misinformed and hasty in prognosis for 5 minutes of his time at $52+-? Neither was he compassionate in any regards to my injured sugar glider. Albeit Im not the easiest person to get along with--especially when facing what I perceive as ego oriented interactions and accusations that we are not great pet owners--I am conversational, engaging and mostly informed. #1. His staff was extremely pleasant and have no bearing upon this review. #2. It is common sense that all nocturnal animals need exam room lights dimmed! I had to dim them myself. #3 He grabbed my INJURED sugar glider by the nap of the neck with a broken foot as he struggled to free himself! On that injured leg. I told him he did NOT bite beforehand. Had I known he was going to manhandle this small creature I would have left. NOTED: at this time Lasette DID NOT know if he had a spinal injury or otherwise either. #4. These animals are extremely sensitive to smells of others. An extremely dirty and hair laden towel mat was used. (vinegar washed only folks! OR! bring your own if you are ignorant enough to take an exotic animal to this vet) #5. He place my glider on the cold hard dirty tile floor to watch him try to move. These animals do not move Mr Lasette when so extremely stressed and scared of a person hurting it. Absurd! #6 He attempted to proclaim needing a diet breakdown more so than anything else; basically placing me and my lady in the same category of those malnutrition owners. It is noted that most gliders whom drag their leg are malnourished although. I thoroughly explained what had happened and he diagnosed is as neurological. (My phone recorder was accidentally left on after taking pictures of the dirty towel brought out for my gliders exam platform so I recorded his diagnosis. btw) Extremely insulting to a locally licensed professional consultant, writer, inventor, residential designer/engineering and veteran. My lady? A masters degree and retired SGM military. To question our care and diet instead of concentrating on the injury was preposterous in the least. We mix an extremely balanced diet in a blender with HPW mix and various treats. They have fresh bamboo cut from trees we grew for them and the likes to crawl upon every other day ... etc. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS VET FOR ANY EXOTIC ANIMALS OF THE SAME ORIGIN AS A SUGAR GLIDER. I have no other knowledge of this person nor business. (Ive also found negative reviews of rabbit and ferret care)

North Bay is the best vet I have been to and Ive lived in 5 states! Dr. Adler REALLY takes her time in examining your pet and most importantly, explaining things to you! Even when its not something necessarily wrong, she explains what shes checking for and why, so you are constantly learning more and more about your pets health, both GOOD and bad. In addition, my Lexi has had a history of seizures. They are not severe and they do not affect her organs at this point in time, nor does she lose consciousness. Instead of immediately recommending medication like the other vets, she recommended bloodwork to check that her organs were not being affected and based on the severity and type, suggested that we closely monitor and if they increase in severity, length, etc than we could consider our options. Seizure medication can have several side effects and is a lifelong medication that is also expensive. She took not only my pets health into consideration (what may be worse, occasional seizures for 1-3 min or lifelong medication with potential side effects) as well as my pocketbook. She also does not push for services and vaccinations that are unnecessary. She realizes most of us dont have several hundred dollars laying around and always walks through her suggestions step by step, highlighting what is crucial at this time, what can wait a little longer, or other options that if I can afford, will help clarify the picture but arent necessary at this time or may never be. For vaccinations, they take the time to truly learn about your lifestyle and what your pet really needs based on that lifestyle instead of pumping them with unnecessary vaccines. The staff is friendly, office is friendly, hours are great, and most importantly they are ALWAYS loving on your pet! During and after examining Lexi, they are always holding her, petting her, walking around the back with her while they grab some paperwork. They truly bond with your animal. They even have pets there for adoption sometimes! The amount of time, dedication and EDUCATION Dr. Adler provides is invaluable. After trying a vet "closer to home" and bringing her back to North Bay after the issue went unresolved and receiving such dedicated one on one time without being rushed (not to mention they prescribed meds for something that wasnt even the issue), I will continue to drive 45 min to 1 hour to bring Lexi here!!!

There is sometimes a conflict between their business model and their professional veterinary practice. You expect you can trust that your veterinarian office is advising what is best for your dogs and you, not what is best for his profit margin at your expense. But the office generates reminders that indicate tests, etc., are urgently due, when in fact sometimes its only that this office recommends them--sometimes twice as frequently as the national consensus/government guideline. Their office staff is a mixed bag. Usually great but sometimes . . . not so great. (One person was unpleasant once.) The veterinarians themselves have been excellent. Link is very experienced, quite sharp, and friendly too. Dr. Moran is new to the field but thorough and very nice. She also loved my dogs. Thats a good thing about the office staff as well: most of them genuinely loved them, fawning over them a great deal, which made their visit more fun than scary. Note: I previously had a more negative review on here after the aforementioned single unpleasant experience, but a subsequent visit was exceptional, so I was compelled to update.

Ive never cried in any visit (human or pet) but I did today. My little nugget wasnt walking too well, after the check-up the bill came and I was so upset. I started to cry in the office, and it rolled down hill. I felt like I should have gotten him sooner to the vet but couldnt afford it since I take care of my elderly mom, he was hurt and I had to wait a week! A WEEK! I felt terrible I couldnt just swipe my debit card to the bills I go. I hugged my little man and cried. The doctor and her tech walked in, and instantly went to work. On me this time, not my rugrat. A box of tissues SUDDENLY appeared, (ten points for the tech, youre a ninja girl!) and the doctor gave me peace of mind. I was freaking out, but she made me feel secure, cared for, and honestly like I was a great mom! I take pride in my two boys, and try to do everything I can to make sure they are happy, healthy, and as close to a resort lifestyle as possible. That moment I wasnt believing it, BUT as usual the vet swoops in and saves the day. Literally one of the best visit, and THANK YOU!

I dont know about the other vets there, but Dr. Peter Helmer is a world renowned exotics vet. He lectures and consults all over the country. He is one of only about 150 veterinarians worldwide that have demonstrated the knowledge and expertise necessary to achieve board certification in avian and exotic veterinary practice. He treats and heals animals that many other vets would let die. For some people that is a suitable response to their pet care. For others who are willing and can afford to pay the cost, this facility offers the professionals and the specialized equipment that can care for animals that would otherwise not be helped. It is expensive - and if you have an ordinary, young, healthy pet (who never gets himself hurt or eats weird things etc) it might not be worth it to you. There are other good vets who charge less. But if you want the finest (at least in exotics care) this is the place to go.
