I dropped off 2 of my sons prescriptions on Monday, I was told 1 of them wasnt covered by my insurance and I had to get a pre Auth from his doc. Ok fine I did that. I go back next day and the pharmacy tells me that the medication is on back order and I wont get it till the end of March, and my doctor wants brand name. The pharmacist tells me it doesnt matter if I get it filled somewhere else because it is the maker that is on back order. I ended up calling Publix and they do have the medication available and that it isnt on back order, so I had to transfer the prescription. I go pick up my sons other medication and get home and open it. The label on the box says discard after 3/1/2017. I open it and look at the medication and it says it expires on 4/2016, I then look at the box and it says the same thing. His medication is a suppository and it came with 12. My sons condition happens every 3 months, this month I will be using one and then not another one till June. So basically I wouldve been giving my son expired medication!!!! This is ridiculous!!!! How many people that work at the pharmacy looks at this medication and yet they still put a label that says discard 1 year after the actual medication expires!!!!!! Unacceptable!!!!!! Update: Spoke to the pharmacist this morning. He said that it was generic label they put on with the exp as 2017. He ASSUMED that because the other medication I was going to fill there (but transferred) was going to be used this month that all of the suppositories would be used this month. He said that was not an excuse but seriously!! Since when does a pharmacist ASSUME medication will be taken in 1 month!!! He told me they have to order another one because none left in stock. Which tells me they were hoping to get rid of the last box before they ordered more and gave it to me knowing it would expire in a month. Needless to say I will never ever fill any more medication at Walmart. It is completely ridiculous that the pharmacist assumed that I would give my son 12 suppositories in less than a month. I trust the the medication is correct and that pharmacist wont ASSUME somthing. Definitely not ok.
