Over the course of 7 years, four of our cats were patients at Mcabee. When we first joined the practice, the care was top-notch. In fact, I referred several people to them over the years. Over the years, the practice grew. More vets were added to the roster - and their prices started to go up dramatically. We also encountered several issues with how our last cats illness was managed by the attending vet. It started with her check-up and the follow up request that she come in for an electro-cardiogram to investigate a suspected heart murmur. Because this test is done by a roving unit, we specifically requested to be contacted to come in when they came into Mcabee. I followed up a few times and we never received a call about the units schedule. A few weeks later, we took our other cat in for a check up and inquired about scheduling the ECG. The vet informed us that "there was no need for the test." We were relieved and trusted the news but in hindsight I wish I had gotten a second opinion as two weeks later we were rushing her to the emergency vet. We found out that our cat had the double-whammy of a heart condition and a decline in kidney functions. Im not saying that Mcabee could have done anything specifically to prevent her condition. Had they scheduled her ECG, we may have been in a position to mitigate her subsequent suffering or have been better prepared for what was to come. While we live in E. Orlando, we took her to VHA which was close to our then employers. The care was top-notch and they prescribed a course of medications and got her stabilized by keeping her in an oxygen tent for a few days. It seemed to help and she was her sassy self for several weeks. On my day off, she was having trouble breathing again and I knew getting her into an oxygen tent would provide her with immediate relief and I knew the travel time might prove fatal for her. So I called Mcabee, who agreed to rush her in since they had the facilities to help. I just wanted to get her stabilized so I could transfer her to the other vet. What ensued during that visit completely turned me off from Macabee forever. The caring practice we knew over the years had evolved into a cold business. During that visit, I was presented with a $500 bill for use of the oxygen tent and told that she would not be treated until I paid upfront. The attending vet remarked that I had to make the decision since pets are a "luxury." I could hear my cat struggling to breathe, the vets "luxury" comment upset me greatly and I was being told they would not treat her without IMMEDIATE payment. Did I get upset - absolutely. Did they care? No. Did they apologize to me for calling my cat a "luxury?" No. Did I feel taken advantage of? Absolutely. Sadly our cat passed peacefully at home a month after this incident. I dont blame Mcabee for her passing - given her condition it was inevitable. What I did not care for was their disregard for my upset and their prioritizing payment before treatment. This vet practice is not what it used to be. I no longer feel comfortable recommending them anymore.

THEY CALLED THE POLICE AND WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS OF FILING A COMPLAINT ON A CUSTOMER AND PUT HIM IN JAIL OVER $31! MOREOVER, THIS GUY WAS A CUSTOMER FOR SEVERAL YEARS THERE AND WAS HANDICAPPED AND 2 OF THEM LITERALLY RAN HIM DOWN ON THE SIDEWALK AS HE HOBBLED TO THE CAR WITH HIS CANE! So this guy must have done something wrong right? Well the complaint to the police from Mcabee was for more than $100 and that he was swinging his cane around at everyone and even knocked down a shelf filled with items with it. So the police called after they were closed and asked if he would come down and right then. Without even giving him a chance to explain his side of the case, the cop just started screaming and screaming and screaming like he didnt get his daily venting of slapping his wife and kicking the dog. I have heard the tape! Im not going to write a book here, however, I know this guy better than anyone. He offered to pay what he owed that day but they wanted more. Which seems to be a theme in the 7 one star complaints they have gotten here in the last year. Bottom line, he took it to court as a consumer advocate because this wasnt the first time they would change their price not only on him but other people he knew. In court, he would not settle and several of the people at Mcabee came there. They proceeded to perjure themselves as there was a video tape. It showed him walking using his cane for help never waving it anyone and nothing happened to any items on the shelf, moreover, all of a sudden the complaint wasnt for more than $100, rather, since they lied about adding things to the bill, it went down to $31. All this time offering to pay the $31 to Mcabee. Anyway, its all in the public court records for Orange county. For more info Gmail to googspot4.

There are a few things that went wrong with this vet office. First, I dont like being made to wait. Your office gave me a time to be at an appointment and I came on time. If your doctors cant do the same, whats the point in setting up an appointment? Second, I was told that when I paid for my puppys shots that they would be done in a series and that I paid for the whole series on the first visit. Well, when I took him in for subsequent shots, they charged me again. Dont tell a client theyve already paid for something and then stick them with another bill. And third, and worst of all, my puppys health was put at risk. I took my puppy in a month ago for shots and I had noticed that he looked very skinny. I was feeding him as recommended, but his ribs were sticking out. The vet said he was fine and that he would fill out with age. Then I took my puppy in today for a check up and shots and was told by a different vet in the same office that I wasnt feeding my dog enough and that he should be eating double what I was giving him. I specifically asked about his feeding a month ago, I commented on his ribs, and your office told me he was fine. Now Im being told hes not fine and that for that ENTIRE month Ive been underfeeding him because of one of your doctors. I do not trust this vets office with much of anything: timeliness, accountability, billing, or compassionate health care for animals. I will not be going back and would not recommend their office to anyone.

Ive used this medical provider for two dogs over the past 11 years. On rare occasions, like in any medical practice, often emergencies have me waiting a bit. Thats ok, with me. I like that they provide me with prescriptions for meds vs. the meds themselves for drugs I can get, say, at Target. The occasions when my dogs needed to see an actual vet, Ive found the vets are patient and effective and good communicators with dogs and humans. My real priority is how is my dog treated when I board him, and especially, how is the staff that actually interact with my dog when I board him. No problem. Those people are so loving and caring that I feel that he is in warm and caring hands. What a relief! The practice will show you the kennel and you can see when you drive in the outdoor "play" area to the north of the building. Why am I not giving them a 5? Occasionally it seems as if the left hand is not talking to the right hand. Its never been about an issue I could not get straightened out by paying attention and calling miscommunications to someones attention. Once again, this may be characteristic of a large and established practice. These kinds of communication slips should be identified for analysis and the customer should be apologized to. Theres a reason that Mcabee Veterinary Hospital (and kennel) has been a mainstay of our community for two generations -- they know what theyre doing. They care.
