I just moved to the area, and my 15 (almost 16) year old Jack Russell Terrier started feeling under the weather. Shes old, so its not unusual for her to be slow moving in the mornings, but she seemed weaker than normal and was having more and more accidents in the house. I chose this vet because he was close, and I noticed they did low cost shots, which made me feel like they cared about low income people that wanted to take their dog to the vet but didnt always have the money. Well I took her in and told him what was going on. He gave me two options. A cheaper option of antibiotics and a cortisone shot, or blood work and x-rays. Because I was concerned for my dog and because it had been over two years since I had blood work done, I opted for the more expensive option. I guess thats all it took for him to see I loved my dog and was willing to pay to get her healthy. Blood work came up good, x-rays showed hardly anything. He said there was a touch of something on her blood work, that made him think maybe she had a minor infection. Then he started to milk me for everything I was worth. He gave me two medications, along with the shot, and then two supplements. Lastly, he added a bag of dog food that would supposedly be good for her and help her cognitive problems. The total came to over $800. Money, I honestly dont have, but was willing to go in debt for the love of my dog. The next day after I brought her home, she would not move. She was so weak and out of it, I honestly thought she was dying. My mom said that maybe it was the cortisone shot that did it, so I googled it, and sure enough it causes lack of energy and muscle weakness. I had taken my dog in for these problems, and he gave her something that literally made her worse. I tried calling the vet, just to find out what I should do, if it was the shot or not, but he wouldnt talk to me. He just wanted me to bring her in again. Of course he did, so hed get more money. I didnt take her, and the next day, she seemed to feel better and back to normal. The shot had worn off. Well then came the problems with the food he gave me. It was $60 for a bag, and a look at the ingredients tells me this dog food is WORSE than the grain free diet Ive been giving her. There is no reason it should cost that much, and now after a few days of eating it, my dog is growing less and less interested. Lastly, the antibiotic. Every time I give it to her, she gets extremely restless. She cant calm down. Wont sleep. Again, I took her in for these problems, explained to him about how she paces and such, and this vet seemed to give me something that made her worse. Shes always been a bit absent minded, but shes never had trouble sleeping. It took her hours last night to finally just settle down and go to sleep. After googling the drug, these side effects are there, plus worse ones, like weakening her immune system. Shes old, Im sure its already weak. Im going to take her off the antibiotic tonight and see if there is improvement, which I think there will be. But because of this vet and his money hungry tactics, I am $800 in debt. He milked me for all I was worth, and he knew I would pay because I loved my dog. I dont trust him at all after all the trouble Ive been having. I cant even call him to ask a simple question. I will not be taking my dog back to his man. I dont think he has any concern for the animals he treats. I think hes just looking to make money off of peoples love and concern for their furry family members.

Our rescue organization adopted out an 8 month old puppy to a nice couple on a Saturday. On Sunday, their OTHER dog was vomiting. They took both dogs into this vet office. They walked out with a bill over $350. The vet said that the adopted dog had an elevated temp as well as hookworms/diarrhea. The adopted dog had a negative fecal prior to being adopted out and their other dog was negative when the vet tested her that day. The vet told the adopters that their dog got sick from the adopted dog but could not say what sickness would possibly be transmittable especially in less than 24 hours. They were given a lot of stuff for BOTH DOGS (antibiotics, medication that is used for intestinal obstruction, a probiotic, dewormer and special prescription food). The vet also told the couple that rescues use cheaper drugs and that there is NO WAY that the dog had a negative fecal previously. If you know the life cycle of hookworms, it is entirely possible to have a negative fecal and then a positive one. That is why, when any of our dogs are adopted out with a negative fecal, we clearly explain that their vet will want to do another one! And why would we want to use a medication that is cheaper and ineffective, that would be just wasting money and wouldnt make sense. When they adopted the new dog, they were told by the foster mother, that the dog was eating a particular food and that the brand of food their other dog was eating had given him a really upset stomach. In a conversation with the adopters after their vet visit, they casually mentioned to us how hard it is to keep one dog from eating another dogs food. I am NOT saying that the adopted dog did not have hookworms or need care, but it is also quite possibly that they got into each others food causing both dogs to have stomach upset. Either way, the people returned the dog, I refunded their adoption fee, and they are out the money they spent at the vet. The dog is back with us and is doing fine. We find this happens quite a bit where a vet will make negative comments about rescues and doesnt reach out to consult with the rescue to try to help the dog/adopters. Instead the adopters were overwhelmed, are out a lot of money and returned the poor dog! Despite any past experiences this vet has had with other rescues, he needs to recognize that all rescues are NOT the same! The adopters did say that they dont go to this vet for vaccinations, etc on their other dog cause it is expensive so they go to the low cost clinic in the area Ultimately, we would have taken care of the hookworms if we were contacted by the adopters or the vet right away. By the time we found out what was going on, it was too late.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This is the second kitten I have taken to this vets office and I dont know why I even went back a 2nd time. My first experience with this vet was for a claw removal and a neuter of my [now] 3 year old cat. We found him on the street, and he had a wasp larvae in his shoulder. When the vet declawed and neutered this cat, he larvae was inside him. I actually ha to bring up the hole in my cats shoulder, and the fact that there was something in it, in order for him to take a look. I should not have to mention (to a trained vet), that my cat has a hole in his shoulder that has something in it. He should have seen it, checked it out, and done what he felt was necessary, or called me to see what I wanted to do. He did neither. Now, with my second kitten, who I just took today for a visit: this kitten was given to me for free, when I got her a couple of days ago, I had to give her TWO baths in attempt to kill the monstrous fleas on her. Most of them were gone. Upon walking in to the vets office, I was not even greeted by the woman at the desk, who was on the phone. Instead, the vet tech came out wit my paperwork, where she then stood next to the desk waiting for the receptionist to get off the phone. The receptionist was actually very rude. She would not make eye contact, was not oersonable, was very blunt and short. Non coversational, didnt care why I was there. I sat in the room for a good 10 minutes be free the vet came in to see my little furbaby. Mind you, I was the only one in there. The vet walks in with the boosters I had an appointment to get, and a dewormer. He greeted us with a hi, and a joke on my cats name. He then shot the dewormer in her mouth, and stuck her boosters in her leg, and asked if we wanted to treat for fleas. I said sure, because, why not be extra safe? He didnt run any tests to make sure she is healthy, he didnt examine her body at all. He literally gave her a shot, a dewormer, and flea medication, and then left us to go and pay. I had to ASK him to check her gums for signs of anemia. Due to how unhappy I am with my vet visit, and the fact that I do not feel that my kitten was thoroughly checked for health conplicaions, I will be taking her to my usual vet: Volusia Woods Animal Clinic. I would NOT recommend anyone come to this animal clinic. The vet is lazy, or simply does not care about the animals. He proved himself to me today, and I will never go back. If youre reading this, go elsewhere, for the sake of your sanity, and your pets health.
