UPDATE 02/02/2016 A couple of days after I had visit the office and experienced the situation stated below, Dr. McRae personally called me to apologize for what I had to experience at his office. He stated that Mary, his billing staff member, did not send the initial statement to me after my first visit and did not follow the proper protocol when dealing with patients who need an issue resolved. Therefore, he waived the balance on my account for me which I appreciate very much. Thank you Dr. McRae for reaching out to me. I usually dont take the time to write a review (good or bad) unless I feel like it would be helpful or beneficial for future patients or consumers. When I first came to this clinic, I made the mistake of not double checking with the office to make sure they were in network my dental insurance. So that was my mistake. I came in for a routine check up in April. My dental hygenist was very friendly. I liked her a lot and the way she took care of me. After my exam, I was given a complimentary whitening kit and the receptionist said I was good to go. I did not receive any statement (physical or email) for this first visit, which led me to assume that my dental insurance covered the exam. It wasnt until after my second exam in October, that the receptionist tells me that I have a balance of $200 on my account from the first visit. Thats when I started to question why I had a balance but never received a statement of the charges. So I asked the receptionist if I would be billed for this second visit even though I wasnt billed for the first one yet, and she said yes. Therefore I waited until I received the statement before I called my dental insurance. I received my first and only billing statement in December! The statement didnt even have the list of services being charged. It only had the amount due on my account, which was $300. I had to call the dental office three times this past week for them to email me a detailed statement with all the charges. After calling my dental insurance they clarified the charges and what I would be responsible for because this office was out of network. I wouldnt have written this review if Marcy had handled this situation in a better manner. When I came into the office to discuss the charges and why I did not received a statement after my first visit, all she said was that I did receive a statement so I was lying to her and that I only came in the office to have the balance written off. That was false. I came in to let them know that I did not received ANY billing statements until December which is why I came back for the second visit in October. When I tried to explain myself, they would only talk over me instead of listening to what I had to say. If I had received the billing statement for the first visit I would have gladly paid it off and not come back for a second visit, where I was billed another $100. I would have been ok if they respectfully said they could not help me with my issue when I came into the office, but instead they treated me as a liar and kept pushing me to leave the office. I sent my friends and colleagues here because of their good reviews, but not anymore. I had to write this review so that no one else has to experience what I experienced.

Pros: •Staff is very friendly Cons : •there is always a wait •doc is between patients so a 45 minute procedure wounds up having you in the chair for 2 1/2 hours . Experience: first walking in , I loved the atmosphere .Greeted by friendly smiles and welcoming voices. Scheduled an appointment for a temp. Sensitive tooth.Informed I needed a root canal. Had rootcanal done & a piece of tooth chipped off a couple days after. Was informed a crown will fix it. Schedule for a crown & had the temp put on. Got the "permanent" put on but popped off one night when eating dinner. Rescheduled and had another temp put on, went in to get the permanent crown on & then again that popped off when I was flossing. I had gone in 15 minutes before appointment time hoping Id get called on time but always got called atleast 20-30 minutes after scheduled time.I am very patient so I stayed.I understood the clinic was busy too but at the same time the wait was rediculous and the amount of times I had gone in for the same tooth was one too many times.I literally went in once to get my temp crown off just to have them put it back on.I invested so much money on this root canal that is supposed to help my tooth problem but now it is no longer temp sensitive but it is now pressure sensitive & also the amount of gas I spent going to these appointments and days I had to put my daughter in child care just so I can be this tooth fixed .I even had to walk out once because I was sitting for 30 minutes after my appointment time and when asked how much longer till Im seen , they asked the doc & came back and told me atleast another 45 minutes.Ive spent so much money to "fix" my tooth and so much money on childcare for the amount of times I had to go back because my "permanent" crown wasnt permanent after all & where ever they were sending my molding to wasnt getting it right and it wasnt fitting my tooth right either. I went to them with this issue in Dec & only Finally in June was it finally fixed ....sort of because now I have a pressure sensitive tooth and so much of my original tooth was drilled off that without the crown Id have a gap between. But again the staff is very friendly and kind & if I was cruel , I would have complained a bunch but I try to be understanding.

If you choose this dentist, it will be the worst mistake youve ever made in your entire life. I had several fillings done and one crown on a front tooth. The crown never looked right, but Im generally not a picky person, so I attributed it to the newness of the tooth. This dentist gave me an overall weird feel, so I went to someone new in Athens about a year later when my teeth were very sensitive. The new dentist told me the crown was not a good quality crown and did not fit properly. I was told to go back and have them check it. I delayed since I dislike the McRae office so much, and today my crown broke off as I ate a sandwich. Not only did the crown break, but the pole broke off at the base of the gum. I called to see if they could see me around 3pm on a Friday, and I was told they were getting ready to go home. The receptionist was incredibly rude and did not seem concerned about my pain at all. She just seemed to want to go home. I practically begged to see the dentist for a quick look and the answer was no. They offered to call in some pain medicine to my pharmacy if I would find the telephone number and call them back. At the very least, could they find the number on the computer I hear typing in the background? I called another dentist in Athens who closes at 2pm, and he was very concerned and friendly and waited an hour after closing to see me at no charge. I will need an oral surgeon from this point, and McRaes office has told me they will not pay for anything I do outside their office even though it was their work, they would not see me, and I was in pain. I have never written a negative review of anything in my life, so please trust this review and save yourself heartache. Do not trust your only set of teeth to these people.
