We had an emergency the day after Christmas with our 12 year old dog, he had trauma to the neck. He was suffocating ,and we had to make the decision to put him to sleep. He had been with us more than half my daughters life and she doesnt even remember life without him. We did not have the fee at that moment, it being an emergency and unexpected expense after Christmas, and had not budget for it that day. We told them this when we first went in, so it wasnt a surprise to them when we were ready to leave. The Vet told us to wait out front and they would bring him out to our car, we wanted to take him home for burial. While waiting the front office person came out, and told us to leave that she was not releasing the body til full payment was made. We tried to work out any kind of payment arrangement that would be satisfactory for them, and she refused anything, saying she was keeping his body, no exceptions. We fully intended to pay, my daughter was traumatized and wanted to take him home, there was no compassion and not even a nice demeanor, she was rude, and basically said she didnt care how much we were hurting. In complete contrasted the Vet, a woman,( I dont know if they have more than one Vet in that office) was caring, compassionate, concerned and very empathetic towards our grief and distress, she also told us she would have him brought to our car for us to wait, which we were doing when the front office woman, shoulder length straight blond hair, in case you ever have to deal with her, came out while we were waiting and told us we were not getting him, my daughter was inconsolable. I will never go there again because of the actions of this front office person. Again, one of the most compassionate and gentle Vets I have ever used, she would be my choice for life time care of all my pets, if she had a more compassionate office staff, I thank her for her compassion and understanding. I would give her a 5 star rating, but with our deceased family members body still there tonight, and being held for ransom, I have to give the clinic a 1 star, and would give a 0 star if that were an option. If any one knows if they can or can not do this legally please let me know. Im not asking a lot just a payment plan, and our loved ones body for burial, so that we all can have some closure. Unless you have pets, you cannot understand the trauma my family is going thru tonight. Again 5* Vet with a 1* for one of the front staff people. *********************************************************************************************I would now like to amend this review. Apparently the Vet and the technicians did not know what was happening out front when this person told us to leave that we were not getting his body. After contacting the Office manager and Vet and letting them know what had happened, they immediately released our pets body to us. They were all but the 1 woman, so apologetic and compassionate, warm and caring. At this point I would def use this clinic as my primary care doctor for my other pets, even if this 1 staff member is still there after this mess she started. I would do this because this Vet is one of the kindness and most caring I have ever used, She is what a Vet should be, and the office manager is the same. With all this said I now change my 1 star rating to a 5 star, as I pretend the one rotten apple is not included in this rating. It is well worth your time even if you have to put up with er, to have your pet get the excellent loving care that they will receive at this clinic !!

With the assistance of Dr Duprel and other staff members, we were able to get our dogs skin and allergy issues under control. We had been to another Vet, but they had a staff turnover and poor "bedside manner." We were told by that Vet clinic that our dog WOULD be put on THIS medicine. We had done research on the medicine they were demanding and voiced our concerns over the side effects that the majority of canine users experienced. Our thoughts fell on deaf ears, and we were told that we would be putting our dog on this, or the Vet "wouldnt see us or write another prescription." Instead of exploring other medications (we had attempted the holistic route,) we were told this was it. We later discovered that the manufacturers of that medication provide prescribing Veterinarians a heavy kick-back for each prescription they write for the medication. When we first met Dr Duprel, we had our dogs complete history from the food she was eating and what we had tried, holistic treatments, prior medications, triggers that caused her itching, etc. Dr Duprel listened, and then when we mentioned a medication called "Apoquel," she was 100% on board. That was several months ago. Our dog has never been better, and whenever we get a refill, the Vet AND staff members all ask about her and how she is doing on the medicine. They actually cared what we had to say and are just as happy with our dogs progress as we are. I highly recommend Animal Medical and Surgical Center in Canton. Although we moved 40 minutes away and there are other, closer, Veterinarians, we still make the trek up here for our dog.

Cant say enough good things about the people here. Today our Jack Russel Terrier was bitten under her neck by a copperhead snake. Being that we live in Lake Arrowhead up in Waleska my wife thought to go to Waleska Animal Hospital. It was close to noon and my wife was told that they couldnt see our dog until 4pm and that they were closing for lunch from 1 to 3. When my wife informed them that our dog was bitten by a snake they simply reiterated that they were closing for lunch and they could see her at 4pm. Really? A veterinary is there to give care and help save animals. Lunch was more important than helping our dog. So my wife called Animal Medical and Surgical center and they told her to bring her right in. Within a minute of getting there they were in a room, the nurse came in and the vet a couple minutes later. Within 30 minutes of walking in they had checked her, drawn blood, cleaned the wound, and was doing exactly what they are there to do. Superb service, friendly staff, very caring! Highly recommended. Thank you for looking after our Faith with a great sense of urgency.

I boarded my dog with them for a week while on vacation. She is paralyzed in her hind legs and requires special care. When I returned to pick her up, I was horrified to find out I had been lied to everyday while I was away. She had not been kept in her playpen and they had not changed her diapers regularly or even used the supplies which I had brought for them. They had kept her in one of their cages where she was left to urinate on herself as evidenced by the sores on her bottom and the burns on her feet and legs. The desitin they applied to try to cover for this mistreatment finally led to zinc poisoning and I had to rush my dog to an emergency vet when she developed hemolytic anemia as a result. Her red blood cell count had dropped to only 9% and she required two blood transfusions to save her life. If you love your dog as I do, stay away from this Veterinarian.
