Shes terrible. Let me first say that I hate to not be able to uplift my black sister. I am a supporter in everything that my black brothers and sisters do. This business I cannot and I will not support and I will tell you why. Dr Sonyika is very unprofessional, extremely rude to her employees and lacks self respect for her patients. I was rudely disrespected by her in her office subliminally. She made obscured comments to her employess about how she would do my procedure when she saw fit even after I had an appointment and I sat there for two hours prior to getting a room plus another hour and half sitting in the room before being seen. She walks about the office as if she has nothing to do or no one to tend to. She stares off in space a lot and she speaks very slowly and she never gets to the point. Its almost as if she doesnt quite know herself about some things. I know shes been around for awhile and you would think after 10+ years she would have it together but she doesnt. It hurts my heart that I cant quite say anything positive about my experience with someone whom I call a black sister but its the truth. After I did my research on her I was upset that I even went in the first place. Dr sonyika was sued in 2009 for malpractice on a 4y.o child during circumcision.. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME EFFORT NOR MONEY. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE An Atlanta jury awarded $2.3 million in damages to a four-year-old boy and his mother in a medical malpractice lawsuit filed over a negligently performed circumcision that severed approximately 30% to 40% of the head of the child’s penis. The boy, who is now four years old, was born at South Fulton Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia. His mother filed a negligence lawsuit against the hospital and both the obstetrician who botched the circumcision and a pediatrician who was called by a nurse about the injury, but failed to examine the child. According to the complaint, the medical negligence of the obstetrician, Dr. Haiba Sonyika, during the routine circumcision caused a large portion of the head of the penis to be severed. Dr. Sonyika then failed to appreciate the severity of the injury, inform appropriate medical staff about the injury and failed to take steps to preserve the tissue. A nurse retrieved the tissue, placed it in a plastic biohazard bag and notified the child’s pediatrician, Dr. Cheryl J. Kendall, of the injury. However, the complaint alleged that Dr. Kendall failed to check on the baby for over an hour and a half and did not consult with a pediatric urologist, who could have reattached the severed portion. As a result of the injury, the boy has been left with a permanent deformity that will require future surgery to address narrowing of his urinary opening. The family also argued at trial that he will require future counseling to help him deal with the consequences of the injury. Following a two week trial, the jury deliberated for two days before returning a verdict that found Drs. Sonyika and Kendall negligent in causing the injury, but the hospital was not found to be negligent. The doctors were ordered to pay a total of $2.3 million in compensatory damages, including $1.8 million to the boy and $500,000 that will be paid to the boy’s mother to cover the cost of medial care and counseling.

Ok so let me start by saying that I do NOT write reviews. My experience was so bad that I HAD to put the word out. I have only seen this dr 2 times. Those 2 times were within 3 days of each other. The first day I was given an appointment for noon. I didnt see the dr until 2pm. During my wait blood was drawn. No one told me what panels were being drawn or anything but I just let it go because its My first pregnancy and I want it stress free. As of 4 days and another appointment later I have still not gotten those results. Fast forward to Monday. I call to report a bleed and ER trip on Sunday, they tell me I must come in and see her. I was grateful it seemed I would be well cared for during this stressful time. Wrong!!! I was told to be there at 11. I got there at 10:30 and was taken to the room at 11:08. Good timing right?, I was told to undress from waists down. The room was FREEZING so I opted not to. I was laying on that table until 1pm. 2 hours on the table waiting for the dr. I was told she was running late due to performing a csection. When she did come in she checked me, spoke to me all of 10 minutes and I never spoke to her again. I was told to go Wait for her in the waiting room and we would talk. I was then directed to the lab for blood. That was NEVER discussed. I found out then that the first 6 vials of blood they took on Friday, included every test BUT hcg and pregesterone. How do u do first bloods on an advanced age, first time pregnancy and NOT check hcg/progesterone????Last night at 10:30 I got my patient summary from her and EVERYTHING she had written was wrong. She had stuff I didnt say in my records, added pains, said we had a plan and we DOnT, and to top it off she stated I was on doxycycline and we NeVER discussed an infection or antibiotics. I had hoped this would be great. I tried to support because She is a black woman, but the level of incompetence, and lack of communication is enough to stress me into an unhealthy pregnancy. I will DEFINITELY be severing my ties with this one. If youre looking for great care, PLeASE look elsewhere!

If I could give no stars I would. This is my first review I have ever done in my life but I feel the need to warn people before they see her. I went in to talk to her about some concerns I had with my birth control it took her an hour and a half to get her nurse to send me from the room to her office. When I went in there she asked me what I needed and as I was talking to her she started using her cell phone. I was talking to her and she wasnt even listening to me she was too distracted by her phone. Then she wanted to do an exam on me and she said shed be right with me. I went back to the room and I heard her go in with at least 2 other patients before me. I know she didnt forget about me because the nurse told her I was ready and my son was crying because wed already been there for over 2.5 hours. I just left. She is also very rude to her nurse and seems out of it. I wish I would have read the other reviews before seeing her especially the one where she was sued for disfiguring a newborns genitals during a circumcision and not even telling anyone which made the poor child disfigured for life. Really??? Why are you still even a doctor?

She is the worst OBGYN to exist. I am a college student and I have been trying to contact her for the past several weeks to schedule an appointment and get a refill on my prescriptions. Her office is always closed and she does not even return voice mails. This is unacceptable. She has been our family OBGYN for many years and she was supposed to deliver my sister but she was late to the delivery and didnt even actually deliver her. If you go to her office she lets you sit in the office for 2 hours before seeing you. Then its another hour or so in the back room and another 30 minutes before being able to pay to leave. Its just not organized enough for me. Get it together.
