Horace Clarington
My name is Horace Clarington Jr, and my Mother, Angela Clarington was a patient there at the Hillandale location of Dekalb Medical. Between the dates of Sept. 15th-18th I have never witnessed such poor service from the nurse staff and techs. During our stay there I spent the whole day and night with my Mother, and that was when I witnessed for myself how the staff at Hillandale really operate. A small few of the nurses like Chantel and Sophia were friendly, but the others that were assigned to my Mother were very rude and lacked a warm nurturing spirit that you normally would see in a Hospital. While we were in the Hospital, my Mother had surgery for her Gallbladder to be removed on Sept 16th. After surgery, I read on the nurses chart that the nursing staff was supposed to start rehab the following day by helping my Mother walk in the hallway as part of her treatment. The rehab was never done and my Mother was discharged on that Thursday, the 18th without any kind of support from the nursing staff. To make matters worse there was also an issue of a stolen item missing from the room 510, in which we were staying. On Wednesday night the 17th, I spent the night with my Mother, as I have been doing the past 2 nights, and I changed into my nightwear clothes from my pants which I was wearing earlier in the day. I folded up my blue pants on the chair with my Mothers belongings around 10:30pm at night, and I wake up the following day at around 8:35am to notice that my blue pants were missing! I alerted the nursing staff, the nurse administrator, and even the security filed a report, but nothing has been resolved, and I even left the hospital with my Mother in my night clothes. To say that this Hospital experience was a nightmare is a complete understatement. I will never ever recommend anyone to this facility for medical help, for I fear that they will just experience the same horrific ordeal that I was dealt.

This by far is the WORST emergency room EVER!!! I brought my wife in for sharp chest pains around 11 30pm and here it is now after 5am and NO PAIN MEDS have yet to be given. The only thing that has been done was her blood has been taken by a nice & polite light skinned sister(nurse) that wore glasses to whom is the ONLY one I can give a GREAT rating. The actual nurse named Robert came in and collected the blood samples and NEVER introduced himself, just took the blood and kept it moving. That was around 1230am. So finally around 3am the doctor came in and informed us of some procedures and that the nurse would be in to administer some pain medication which NEVER HAPPENED!!! My wife pages for the nurse and 2 HOURS LATER he rolls up in the room asking how are you doing, REALLY!!!? My wife told him not well at all being that shes been waiting for over 2 HOURS after she paged him. He then says he was tending to a patient unconscious and then left like he was getting MEDS and had the initial nurse come back in to find out what my wife needed. Also I was outside in the car and around 4am and called into the ER to get an update on my wife. Someone named Dawn placed me o n hold over 12 MINUTES AND NEVER RETURNED!!! I then hung up, called back and who was the person that picked right up, yep it was DO NOTHING DAWN!!! So I told her yes Dawn you placed me on hold over 12 minutes ago and NEVER RETURNED WITH MY WIFES UPDATE!!! She then places me on hold and came back only to provide me with the direct phone number to my wifes ER room which ISNT A DAMN UPDATE!!! If you want to keep your family alive and yourself out of jail from the TERRIBLE service received by SOME but not all of the ER crew NEVER COME TO DEKALB MEDICAL HILLANDALE GO TO DECATUR INSTEAD THE SERVICE THERE IS ALWAYS EXCELLENT!!! The ONLY reason I chose this one was because it was the closest to get to for my wifes pain#NeverAgain

I am absolutely disgusted with this hospital and see no need for it to even be operating. The staff is lazy and rude. Ex. I took my 10 month old daughter to ER. She had been running a fever for hours. They take her temp and it still 103.0. While getting her vitals I exampled to them that she was diagnosed by her pediatrician that she has Gastric Reflex Disease. Which means she pretty much has a weak stomach. They give my child Motrin and stick us in the waiting room amongst other obviously sick kids. After waiting a hour still waiting to be seen my daughter vomited the Motrin. A lady behind me said thats sad another child they gave Motrin to also vomited it back up. After waiting another hour my baby became hotter. Her clothes were soaking wet and they tell me to just take off her pants maybe that would help. No what would help is that you all would get off your lazy asses and work. I witnessed Medical Assistants and Nurses standing around watching the NBA finals instead of making sure the kids in the waiting room needed immediate help as my child did. They took breaks and even sent the officers to get food for them. Some people even clocked out and went home instead of helping get the people out of the waiting room. After Two and a Half hours of my daughter sweating and vomiting and still no had seen her. I got mad and took her downtown. I do not recommend you take your children or even yourself for that to this hospital. They have enough DeKalb Medical Hospitals. Close this mess down.

Worst hospital ever. Ive been here multiple times and its always a bad experience now that I think of it. I was given medication and sent on my way to drive myself home. No one asked if I drove myself there to the ER, or explained the posssible side effects. On the way home DRIVING I had reactions to the medication given. Lets just say Im glad there werent many cars on the road or else myself and others would have been hurt. Today I had another ER visit. Waited 4 HOURS with a pain level of 10, constant vomiting and all. No one batted an eye nor asked if I was okay. Meanwhile Im seeing other patients laughing and having a good time be assigned rooms. I couldnt take it any longer. This hospital is the worst and the patients best interest is not their interest. They take forever to get you to the back and they rush you while youre back there. Do yourself a favor and go to another ER. Get good treatment somewhere other than here because they dont offer it.
