I have sadly had cause to use the services of this place 4 times for my cat. The first time was a few years back when my cat had a UTI with blocked urethra. He was not well when he came in, but they were able to unblock him and monitor him for 24 hours after. It was originally going to be more but he pulled out his catheter early. Rather than having us incur additional charges, they carefully monitored his urine output so they could be sure he was still unblocked and was safe to come home, saving us over a thousand dollars. The second was about a week and a half ago, when that same cat was vomiting blood even while on treatment for chronic vomiting. We saw Dr Klemas. They took x-rays and then wanted us to admit him until he could see a specialist, which we could not afford. They re-hydrated him, gave him an anti-nausea shot, and sent us home with more anti-nausea meds and an appetite stimulant. He resumed eating within 12 hours and put on nearly half a pound before my next visit. A week ago, we met with the internal medicine specialist, Dr MacKenzie. They were very nice and very comprehensive. They even performed some testing without cost because they knew we would need to repeat it when the technician was back on Monday. They were as reassuring as any vet can be when they tell you your cat might have cancer. Sadly, our last visit was this last Sunday night. After his near-miraculous recovery he begin to deteriorate on Saturday. I stayed up with my cat, nervous his health. At 3am, it was obvious that his condition was rapidly going downhill. We rushed to the vet, hoping theyd be able to give us another miracle and hed get his ultrasound in the morning. Sadly, that was not the case. We were seen to immediately by the same staffers as last week, who remembered us). The front desk staff brought me water when I broke down trying to tell them what had prompted the visit. The only complaint I could possibly make is that I wish the vet who told us euthanasia was a viable option had been more firm about how bad off he was. She was incredibly compassionate and I know that she meant well by telling us shed support us either way and that it was a personal call, but at 4am we were not in a great place and needed the guidance. By the time he was back in the room, it was obvious that anything other than euthanasia would have been cruel and pointless. I worry that we prolonged his pain unnecessarily by taking so long to decide. Once the decision was made both the vet and the assistant (Im sorry but I dont know her actual title) got us all the paperwork (to make sure when we were ready we could go right home) and they prepped him in the treatment area where he was getting oxogen support. When it became obvious that he might go even without the medication, the assistant rushed him in to us so that we would not miss a chance to say goodbye and comfort him. When everything was over, they placed him on a blanket so that our final time with him was not so clinical. His blood test results (for ibd and several other things) were due to come in on Monday. They made sure to cancel his ultrasound and note in the system that he had passed so I would not receive any calls regarding treatment options. On Tuesday, Dr McKenzie called me directly to offer his condolences and to make sure we knew we had made the right call. It turned out that he had a large tumor which caused problems in many organs. There would have been no treatment even if hed made it to his appointment. Whenever it was possible to keep my cat alive, they did so with as much compassion towards us and our financial constraints as was possible. When it was no longer possible, they did everything they could to make sure he passed in peace surrounded by his family and that we had the time and space to grieve as we needed. So while I hope to never have need of their services again, I cant thank them enough for their efforts on our behalf and would recommend that anyone in need go there.

This place seems to be good if you have the money then and there to pay for their overly expensive services. The staff is mostly friendly when you enter but that tends to shift a little once they learn you cant afford their high prices. They stress a series of expensive tests that they cant guarantee will solve the problem but will send 2 or 3 people in the room to convince you to do them (some of them being absolutely unnecessary since we all pretty much knew where the problem was). Im still in awe over how they were so pumped up about saving my dogs life until they learned my father and I couldnt afford their ever-changing surgery estimate (we were given 3 drastically different quotes). He wouldnt even be touched and the surgeon wouldnt even come in without a $5,000 deposit. Then they went straight to suggesting putting him down. We had hoped to take him elsewhere to either get a more or affordable surgery estimate or at least a more affordable euthanasia price. They wouldnt even let us take him. After sending in another 3 people to tell us taking him away would be animal cruelty we finally gave in and let them put him down. Had I read the reviews ahead of time I would have taken my dog elsewhere. He may have still had to be put down but at least he would have had some sort of treatment aside from pain killers beforehand. I understand that they are an emergency clinic and pet care is expensive but it seems as though CVESC takes advantage of being pet families emergency resort. They told us they operate just like a human hospital but at least at a human hospital they try to save your life and talk about price later. If youre truly not in a position to pay more nearly $1,000 for testing alone and nearly $10,000 on the spot for surgery, please take your pet somewhere more affordable. CVESC isnt the only emergency vet around.

My beloved beagle Susie just passed away. We had 10 years together, but we would have had seven if I listened to the incompetent and moronic Jerry Klein. I rushed Susie to the hospital on Aug. 5, 2011. Dr. Klein urged, begged, urged, begged, urged, begged that I put Susie to sleep. He said "I have been a veterinarian for 30 years and I can tell you from experience that this dog will never recover." He called Susie "very old" (she was 10; I got her when she was 3), told me that she had either a serious heart condition or an advanced form of cancer. He told me that she would probably die overnight regardless of whether she had a life-saving operation. He said that if she miraculously survived that a specialist would come into the office and diagnose her -- and the diagnosis would be she had at most a couple of months to live and it would be painful and expensive to keep her alive. I went home in tears. He then phoned me after MIDNIGHT and said "have you decided what youre going to do with the dead body yet." I said "what are you talking about?" He ANGRILY said "I talked to you an hour and a half ago and told you that you need to decide what to do with the dead body." I said "I just walked in the door. What are you talking about. I havent talked to you." He told me that Susie was in a coma and he had told me that at 10:30 pm. I had NEVER talked to him on the phone. The next morning I phoned the emergency room and Dr. Vollbrecht told me that Susie was recovering from surgery, drinking water, walking a bit, and she would recover. SHE DID RECOVER. Susie was declared perfectly healthy by the specialists and she lived for THREE MORE YEARS after Dr. Klein told me to kill her. He is a POS pure and simple. And he never had the guts to talk to me after his diagnosis and delusions. Do NOT trust this POS -- EVER.
