We rescue adult dogs (three, at present), who unfortunately have health issues. Weve been going to a particular vet for 37 years. We knew he was expensive but we trusted him. After our bichon-maltese mix had oxalate bladder stone surgery at a surgical center, we wanted to explore holistic approaches, nutrition, etc., although my vet said nothing would help keep the stones from returning. But we knew we had to try. I had heard wonderful things about Royal Treatment. I cannot recommend them highly enough: the care is personal and comprehensive. From the receptionist to the techs to the wonderful Dr. VonderHaar ("Dr. V"). We have Kasper on some supplements, bone broth which flushes him out, and regular veterinary care. We took our yorkie Pearl (rescued at age 7, after being a puppy mill breeder) there when she started having serious GI issues. This is when we decided to change all of our dogs over to Royal Treatment Center. My vet had limited suggestions, and I wanted holistic input. In addition to the regular care, we have added supplements, food change to a "novel" protein, and a regular antibiotic that even my regular vet didnt mention. See? COMPREHENSIVE care. She is improving slowly - its a difficult inflammation to treat. Dr. V and I chat via email all the time, which has been fantastic, as minor changes can have a huge impact on Pearls condition. Now, heres the kicker: B12 shots are part of the protocol. My regular vet was charging me $102.50 per shot (a series of 13 shots): $44 for the shot, $58.50 for the office visit. Royal charges me $12/shot! Thats it! They weigh her because her weight is important. Or I could learn to do it myself, which would be even cheaper. 20 tablets of prednisone from my regular vet: $35. 60 tablets from Dr. V: $18!!!! I know there have been some negative reviews on price, but labs, x-rays are cheaper here than the rip-off vet Ive been going to for 37 years. We will wean her off the prednisone to a natural form eventually - something the traditional vet doesnt know anything about. Price wouldnt matter if I didnt believe my dogs were getting the best care possible. This is a wonderful collaborative experience, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. A great resource in the Chicago area.

Like many others, we found Dr. Royal as a last resort of treatment. Its too bad that we didnt find her sooner as perhaps we could have spent more time with our beloved dog. As youll read in review after review, the staff really do care. They take the time and really invest themselves in your pets well being. Ive never had a veterinarian call me on a Sunday night to discuss treatment options or tell me they dont care how busy they are, they will see me until meeting Dr. Royal. Everyones approach there is the same, happy and whats in the best interest of your pet. They dont force feed you solutions that arent attainable. Yes, while some of the treatments are a bit expensive, they are worth it. People still think acupuncture is quack medicine. I can attest that my dog had no bias one way or another on proving a point. He would limp in and walk out chipper as could be. Make sure to plan accordingly as the first visit does take some time. Everyone is interviewing each other during that first meeting. Have "stupid" questions? Ask them, theyre not stupid. You wont be talked down to or treated as if you should be shamed for not knowing something. Since first going here years ago, they now offer full veterinary services. My dogs go very infrequently as theyre healthy and happy. The whole staff is great to be around and make sure each visit is calm and beneficial. Starting out right versus having to treat them towards the end is a much better solution.

Dr. Royal saved my dogs life! My precious Scottie, Isabella Amelia Rose, was diagnosed with a kidney issue and my (former) Vet told me she would be on meds the rest of her life. Dr. Royal treated Isabella from several dimensions; changing her to a raw food diet, using acupuncture, recommending healthy supplements among other modalities. Isabella is healthy once again, thanks to Dr. Royal. Dr. Royal TAKES TIME with owners and their pets unlike every other Veterinarian; her staff is exceptional in customer service as well as their veterinary experience. Dr. Barbara Royal is a role model for the Veterinary profession; if anyone can CORRECTLY diagnose and gently treat a sick animal - she can. The Royal Treatment Veterinary Center is World Class and truly one of a kind - how blessed is the Chicago area animal kingdom and their pet parents!

Our Maltese Zach is 10 years old and was diagnosed with a torn ACL earlier this year. Surgery seemed the only viable option but as he had just undergone a surgical procedure a month earlier, I was reluctant to put him through the ordeal again so soon. I allowed his leg to heal and then found Dr Royal. Under her direction, Zach was put on a strict diet and lost 6 pounds (!) and after many sessions of underwater treadmill therapy, he is fully healed. I feel like I have my old Zach back - he is extremely active again and looks/acts like a young dog. I truly feel that had I not found Dr Royal, Zachs lifespan would be significantly shortened as in my opinion, he had begun to "slow down". I would highly recommend the Royal Treatment for not just therapy for overall Veterinary care!

Began coming with our middle dog who suffers from hip dysplasia and a disease of her front legs. She runs like a champ now. Then our old beagle got cancer. He also suffers from arthritis. After going the traditional route we were told to expect a life expectancy of about 3 to 6 months. He was in pain when touched and struggled to get up or move very quickly. We asked Dr. Royal to work with us to keep him comfortable. She worked with a local store to a develop a diet for him, added suplements, exercise and acupuncture. Fast forward nearly 2 years. The cancer remains, but I am sitting at Royals here listening to him beg for treats on the treadmill with a wagging tail. And I couldnt be happier.

I have taken my two cats to Dr. Royal and her associates for 3 years now. I cant say enough good things about her approach to veterinary medicine. She truly cares about my little guys and offers excellent advice. She diagnosed one of my cats with hypothyroidism, which is extremely rare. Its a good thing I had such a great vet looking out for him! The only downside is that the setup of their building is not very cat friendly. My cats are very timid and the building is a loft, which allows lots of noise transfer, and there are many barking canine patients! Aside from that, I give Dr. Royal and her practice 5 stars.
