On April 27, 2017, my wife had an appointment with M.D. Raymond A. McDermott III (Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology) that turned out to be such an unpleasant experience for us. My wife is about 6 months pregnant and we were going in for our monthly checkup. We are a couple that believed and trusted in the work of the doctors and staff at Swedish, as our first child had been born in that very hospital. Unfortunately it was shock to receive such bad treatment from a so called professional whose job was to care for us, or so we thought. That day McDermott walked in with an indifferent demeanor into room number 3 where we were told to wait. He did not greet us and quickly proceeded with checkup, which must have lasted no more than about 5 minutes. He appeared to be in a rush and quickly asked us if we had any questions as he was getting ready to head out. I kindly asked him to fill out my FMLA documents for work, but he replied that he was not sure if he had any time to do it. I replied that I needed them filled out so that my job was able to approve my FMLA. He said that he would see if someone was able to do it. Soon after, a staff member came in and we spoke to her concerning an ER visit that we had the month before due to some prenatal pills that were given to my wife at the hospital by staff. The staff member mentioned it to McDermott and he came back into the room. We made an attempt to explain the situation and provide details as to what the doctors told us the day that my wife went to the ER, but McDermott began interrupting. We did not accuse him as to being the cause of why we ended up in the ER but it was evident that McDermott took it personal. He continued to interrupt in an aggressive way as I tried to explain the situation. His replies were demeaning, insulting, and unprofessional. My wife and I felt as if we were criticized for not knowing what he knew medically. During what seemed more of a dispute than a discussion between McDermott and us, my wife handed him the box of prenatal pills that were given to her at the last appointment. Soon after reading the ingredients in the box, McDermott did not hand over the box to my wife but threw it at her. My wife and I were shocked at what had just happened. After a few more words were exchanged, McDermott began to walk out the room in a very rude way. I asked him if my FMLA documents were going to be ready soon and McDermott sarcastically replied, "Hopefully," as he shut the door behind him. I am saddened and also worried that six months into my wifes pregnancy, we now have to look for a doctor that will help deliver our soon to be born child. We have considered finding another hospital for my wife as we were told by staff that McDermott could possibly be the only doctor scheduled at the expected date of delivery. We are however afraid that McDermott can become negligent, possibly endangering my wifes life or the life of my child.

This hospital is absolutely DREADFUL. August 07 I went in for simple elective surgery. Surgery went well, but the recovery team screwed up and I wound up in cardiac arrest - dead for almost two minutes, on life support and in a coma for two days. They hurriedly kicked me out of ICU and placed in a filthy , nasty ward. There were feces in the bathroom. They "forgot" to feed me, and when they did, they kept bringing me foods that they knew from my chard that I was allergic to. I wound up having to have my head shaved from the vermin infection. I also got bed sores because my room was so hot and they never changed my linen or moved me the full week that I was there. My throat was also damaged from the bad intubation. They had to do it several times because the folks in recovery didnt have enough experience to do it properly. I have been in physical therapy ever since on account of hospital negligence. The ward I was in was incredibly filthy. Unclean, feces smears on the bathroom floor and toilet. I managed to take my soiled bedsheets off and throw them in a prominent place on the floor. The soiled bedsheets stayed there until an hourr before I got the strength to discharge myself. They refused to let me speak with a Patient Advocate - four times. The CEO of the hospital refused to return my calls. I had to make a public scene on California Avenue to get a response, and that response was far from positive. My attorney had to contact the hospital to get my release papers signed. I WAS THREATED WITH ARREST BY AN EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT IF I INSISTED ON LEAVING THE HOSPITAL BY MY OWN ACCORD. They were billing Blue Cross over 50K a day for their negligence and I guess they didnt want to lose the bucks. They never told my surgeons what happened. Both found out when they called my home to check in on me. The hospital never contacted my family to tell them what happened - they found out when they came looking for me. Apparently te hospital planned to bury their mistakes. Swedish Covenant recently settled a medical negligence suit for 8.4 million for refusing to treat a woman SEVERAL TIMES in the emergency room. This hospital is all hype. Great marketing campaign BUT incredibly LOUSY hospital. Dont let the new buildings fool you. My suggestion: if your doctor or surgeon practices out of of Swedish Covenant, ask if they have privileges at another hospital and GO THERE!

I live with chronic illness and find myself in an emergency room every 6-10 months or so. This was one of the worst experiences Ive ever had. After I arrived, I was sent back and forth from a room back to the lobby 4 times. Once was to have vitals taken from the triage nurse. She was incredibly rude and never gave me a medial bracelet. Then when I was sent back to have my blood drawn, the phlebotomist did a terrible job. I myself am a certified phlebotomist and I would be fired for doing much of what she did including, taking my blood without a medical bracelet (yup, I never received one until I was about to be injected with mediation hours later), cleaning the area incorrectly, leaving the tourniquet on for more than a minute, and leaving the dirty needle outside a proper biohazard receptacle. I was then sent back to the lobby for the last time. When finally I got to the room, the real nightmare began. My nurse and doctor were TERRIBLE. The nurse kept speaking over me, and later when I asked about the method of medication delivery (this was the only time Ive been in an ER where they havent given my any fluids by IV and then administered medications the same way) he made a really inappropriate joke about where he could be injecting me instead. Some might call that sexual harassment. I felt incredibly unsafe. Dr. Kuston acted like my pain was really no big deal and treated me like I didnt understand my own condition that Ive been living with for the better part of a decade.Sure I was stumbling over my words a bit, but you know, I was in a lot of pain... Speaking of which, my condition is GI related, so I was experiencing abdominal pain. Dr. Kuston turned it into a mini witch hunt trying to prove I was pregnant. First off, I peed in a cup, if you dont trust that I know my body and how to protect it go do a test. Second, how dare you act like I dont have autonomy over my own body. This place is the worst. I can see from previous posts that youll probably ask me to contact the Patient Experience Manager. If so many people are having these experiences, Id say good old Anne isnt doing a very good job either. No, I dont want my experience to end up in some bullshit suggestion box. If you want to help, give me the contact information for whatever governing body oversees this hospital.
