I grew up in Elgin been to ST Joes ER many times over my 40 years on this planet, but last night was poorest health care service I have been a party to period! Brought my 6 yr old daughter to ER, been suffering from strep and had high fever, treated by family Dr last week, who was now out of town and it was 730 in evening. Instead of being given a normal ER area with a bed, some privacy curtains etc. we were shown to a small grouping of chairs inside the ER area in a closet type Room 10, mind you, ER had maybe two or three people in the whole ER as patients, but instead crammed 8 separate patients into this small area to be treated. Lady next to us was being treated for the mumps. Since we were all crammed in this area have you ever heard of patients privacy, or HIPPA maybe. People who come to your hospital are patients, clients, and customers. I have insurance so Im not some health care shopper seeking a hand out! Not once in the 2 1/2 hours was my daughter asked if she needed anything to drink, or how she was doing instead had to have lay across my wifes lap on a chincy plastic chair!!!! Thank goodness for cell phone games. When I asked the male nurse whats up with this treatment and not having a room area, I was told this is the expidit area. I asked if this was new and he replied yes. With all the other hospital choices nearby....Brand New Sherman hospital 5 minutes down the road and a kid ER @ Alexian Brothers......Parents beware!!!!! I left a message for hospital customer service advocate but no return call. Needless to say I will be checking my bill for the cost of this shabby treatment. Hopefully others will read this and someone will get a clue, this is not how you treat people. By the way, probably should remove the "ranked as 1 of the top 30 hospitals" in your automated phone system. We all have opinions and right now your hospital is a joke, which is really sad considering St. Joe use to be the standard setter in the area for health care.

my sister in law got hospitalized there. she was in the 3rd floor. she told me that it would take 45 mins for the nurse to get to her to give her tylenol for her fever, and her fever is not the usual 101 deg fahrenheit...shed run 105-108 temp. i understand nurses here have 5-6 patients, but obviously they dont have any sense of priority....then she complained of being short of breath, the nurse dilly dally and said her o2 sats is fine......she keep complaining and complaining that shes becoming really short of breath, the nurse didnt come back, she called and called. the nurse came back only when they called an RRT( rapid response, or just short for her to have a code). she went to the icu of course and from then on she refused to be ALONE, to be left in the care of this kind of nurses. so im brother or any of us had to stay with her all the time. im so glad shes alive. i could have sued this hosp. the surgeon though did a very good job. my sister in law was crying when she was told she was to be transferred out of icu to the floor. she told my brother that she will die on the floor. so i told my brother to never ever leave my sister in law alone ever again. to all of you reading this, beware of the 3rd floor nurses....they are incompetent, dont have any sense of priority. if you have a temp of 108, put the damn cooling blanket on and call later for the damn order. i asked for the cooling blanket and the nurse told me she didnt have any order and that she has to call for the order. i was tactful when i asked and she gave me an attitude. so people, beware.....if you can go somewhere else, go.... but in fairness to this hospital, hats off to the surgeon and her surgical team....they did a very good job, updated us every 2-3 hrs during the surgery......this hosp should get no stars from me, but the surgical team pulled the rating up to 2.....without the 3rd floor nurses, the surgical team gets a 5.......

My grandma was in for a surgery, and while the care and surgery were fine, they dont seem to care about the time of others. Sometimes it takes 10-15 minutes minimum for someone to come help her to the bathroom, and during our last discharge, I got a call from her saying they were discharging her around 4 pm and we didnt get out until around 5:30!! Apparently there 4 means 5:30. I understand that they get busy, but your time is not the only time thats valuable. As well as the fact that shes been in and out for vomiting, and they dont seem to care about her getting any better. Im her main care giver and no one will tell me whats going, or what they think the problem is. Its a miracle if you speak to a doctor once. They have sent her home when she was still unable to walk to the bathroom by herself, or care for herself at least enough while Im at work, and when Ive brought it up to both a doctor and nurse no one with take it seriouslyand just kept brushing me off. And the doctor that prescribed her medication made a mistake but was completely unreachable. Even when his secretary said she would leave him a message and assured me that the mistake had been called in and changed nothing. Ive had with the total incompetence of this hospital. I would give it no stars if I could. Im usually a patient person with people that are serving but its a bit ridiculous.

We are at hospital with my mother in law and they dont know what they doing nurses and doctors, we had a very bad experience, my wife got hung on , a the doctor are not doctor and they have no clue , I dont know where they have their license from , please dont go there if you Here is what happens my mother in law ends up in this hospital and my wife was with her After a few taste and she had chest pain and high blood pressure and they had a Des charge peppers ready when my wife ask the nurse if the doctor sees her mother and ordered the Des charge pepper she just got a very angry nurse and refused to let my wife to speak to the doctor and she told her that theres no doctor on duty right now, after a 1 hour she came back and told my wife they will keep my mother in law until Monday because they have to do one more test and they do it on Monday, next day my wife came to the hospital and she finds out that her mother didnt eat all day and when she ask the nurse about it she just got a answer that she have 3 more patients to take care off It is very bad when a hospital dont care

This is one incredible hospital facility and was truly the highlight of my day today (9/19/2014) as 23 days prior to Veterans Day - November 11th I spoke with VI and Ellen at the front desk. These gals were a delight that knew just how to offer directions as well as enjoy laughter. What made this trip ever so special was the namesake of the nearby road Larkin. Lakin has always been a family crest that I admired dearly and still do. Think of Krystle shards of glorious light and beauty emanating from the divine feminine apparitions often present at the Bristol Renaissance Fair as well as searches into the November citrine sunrise and sunsets that mark such a majestic vision when one searches the data storage of images of the internets archived and collective mind. Well my thanks go out once again to Ellen and VI as I hope the light of grace shines upon your soul each and every day. Me(RAK)
