whent in on a saturday night with my 3 year old daughter because she was complaining of stomach pain. she was complain of lower right pain (appendix side). we got sent home because she did not show other symptoms. her diagnostic was child stomach pain with possible virus. No blood test or nothing. the only thing was a urine test to rule out a UTI. Sunday she ran a fever, vomitted, and did not eat ALL day. that night she was complaining of stomach pain when she ran or walked. I took her back in. we almost got sent home again. Only this time they thought it would be a good idea to run a strep test .. of course it was negative. the nurse who helped us was rude and said there was no way my daughter had appendicitis because she would be screaming in pain and that I was gonna be sent home. so, surprisingly the Dr ordered an Xray and blood test. and of course her white blood cell count was high. then a CT was done and she was diagnosed with appendicitis. she was admitted and 7 hours later she had surgery. we whent home Tuesday and we went back thursday because she was complain of severe stomach pain and would not calm down with tylenol or ibuprofen. They ordered a CT and turned out she had an inflamation. The dr who operated on her didnt come in to see her until 9 hours later. and he said she looked fine and he didnt know why her pain was so intense. she had been receiving morphine all night. they kept her on antibiotics all night her fever would spike up to 103, the second dr that came in the next day said he was going g to open her up again to make sure there was nothing there. once he opened her up he said there was lots of pus. after that she has been doing so good! all the nurses there have been amazing. if this dr would have operated right away my baby would have been home sooner. this will deffinately be my last experience here at Kish. I would rather drive 30 minutes than have my kids seen here again.

Ive never written a negative review of a medical provider before, but this experience was beyond anything I could have imagined. I went in because of sudden, unexplained swelling around my neck that was putting pressure on my throat and was constrictive whenever I swallowed or inhaled. The doctor ordered a CT of my lungs to rule out the possibility of air leakage from a collapsed lung. I heard him receive results on the telephone outside my room shortly after 9 p.m. No one came into the room for another two hours, at which point he "reassured" me that I did not have a collapsed lung (never thought I did) and prepared to discharge me. When I asked about the neck swelling and pressure on my throat that I came in for, I was told that they couldnt address everything and I should contact my regular doctor in the morning. The nurse, Jill, said, "He may have to investigate further, though I have no idea what hed even look for." I was sent home around midnight, very concerned about the increasing pressure on my throat. Jill advised me to come back if it got worse; when I reminded her that it had been getting worse the whole time Id been there and asked how I was to know at what point it would be serious enough to return, she shrugged. Swelling continued to worsen overnight and make swallowing increasingly difficult. When I saw a doctor from my own physicians practice the next day, she and another doctor both expressed considerable surprise that I had been sent home without steroids to control the swelling until my follow-up appointment. While the complete disregard of the issue that brought me in was both frightening and frustrating, the worst part of the experience was the nurse, Jill, who grew ruder and more condescending as my symptoms worsened and, by the time I was discharged, actually seemed to be making a conscious effort to increase my anxiety.

I sincerely hoped that this place would get better with Northwestern involved, but it hasnt. It has actually gotten worse. A little while ago my daughter was seen in the ER and was diagnosed with an UTI. I took her to see her pediatrician 2 days later and it turns out that not only did she NOT have a UTI, the doctor who saw her at the ER prescribed her an antibiotic that shes not supposed to even take due to her age. Theyre not supposed to even prescribe it for people under the age of 18 and shes 15. Also her pediatrician said the ER was supposed to have called me to tell me that she didnt have an UTI and to have her stop taking the antibiotic. I NEVER received a phone call. Also, Im having neck and shoulder problems so my spine specialist, whos in Rockford, ordered a MRI of my neck and unfortunately I decided to have it at Kish. Big mistake. First, their central scheduling department doesnt call you anymore like all other hospitals do. No, you have to call them, which youre not told, so I was waiting for them to call me for a week before I finally called them and it took me 5 times of calling to get an actual person who informed me that they dont call patients anymore and that they havent for a year now because they dont have the manpower. After that fiasco, I went in for my MRI. My doctors nurse called 2 days later and told me that Kish screwed up and didnt get all the images she had ordered even though they were clearly marked on the order she faxed over, so had the 2nd MRI done. Just got off the phone with my doctors nurse. Kish screwed up again and still didnt take the right images so now I have to go back AGAIN for a 3rd MRI. I should have went to Rockford Memorial Hospital. They would have gotten it right the first time.
