This review isnt about the store itself. My boyfriend and I have been shopping at this petsmart for nearly 2 years. Before deciding on adopting on of the little critters they have we research what we are getting ourselves into so we arent an ignorant pet parent. Today we went to adopt a couple of gerbils. And we have previously had three gerbils. When asking if we could see the gerbils the employee, a girl named Jaci, was very reluctant in doing so. When asking if we could please have two of them she told us no unless she knew we had two separate cages for them and that if we didnt we needed to purchase another. She was stumbling over her words and didnt know what she was talking about. She told us because they were young they could be together but as they got older they would fight and kill each other. As I said before we have had three gerbils and they were all housed together and slept together and played together. Gerbils actually need to be kept in pairs because of how social they are. The little card underneath even suggests that they be housed in pairs because they are social. I have never meet a petsmart employee that lacks such knowledge on the pets that they sell. And she didnt even take any substrate from the habitats when boxing them. They were in a bare box sliding all over. The substrate is suppose to help transition them to theyre new homes. She almost didnt sell us the gerbils.

I took my dogs there to get their nails trimmed. I usually go to a different groomer in the area, but in a hurry and figured I would try Petsmart for the first time. I was very dissatisfied. As soon as the girl began handling the dog she put her leg against my terrier mix, reached over the dog pinning her with one arm against her leg and quickly started trying to Dremel the nails. Of course, having never been "manhandled" in this manner, my 15 lb. dog started to freak out a little, pulling her paws away and moving around, as I had warned the girl that she wouldnt like the Dremel. She paused long enough to ask for help and grab the regular clippers - so between the TWO employees physically holding my dog still they were able to complete the job. It went the same exact way with my other approximately 25 lb. beagle mix, but they insisted on completing his with the Dremel that he was clearly scared of (because they charge a couple more dollars for the Dremel). I have obviously switched back to my old groomer, who, not only does not have to even hold my dogs still, but doesnt charge as much and is much friendlier. She simply puts them on the table, calmly pets them and says hello then slowly picks up each paw and takes her time and makes sure everybody is comfortable, no manhandling required!

***Be warned*** when you buy a product from this company and location, as soon as you walk out of there any issues or concerns that you may have is your problem. I walked into this petsmart that is 20 mins away from my house only to have them tell me that they cannot replace my fish tank filter. Only way they would do so is I come up with a recite. All the other companies like PetCo and other fish places are happy to take the business and do a filter swap but Petsmart does not want to do so. I have been a very loyal customer to Petsmart for years, buying all food for my pets from here, but NO MORE. I had to wait 20 mins before the store manager can tell me sorry but we will not exchange the filter as its "company policy". I went to petco and they took my old filter and gave me their equiliant brand filter. How unfortunate, as I am sure the filter cost Petsmart very little but now they have managed to loose a customer over it. If the service was there, then I would stay but looks like that is gone to. their loss.

Did my T-Mobile Tuesday at this location, and the cashier lady was not very friendly. I get it, its a hassle and were holding up the lines when you have customers who has to fidget with their phones to get the codes for you, but telling me how much youre dreading this, aside from complaining that youre not getting any credits when I dont give you my email contact is just NOT something you tell a customer. I told her Id be glad to give her my email if she can go back and change the info, but she just shook her head, saying Its too late, this system wont allow that. Well sorry, had you told me earlier that it would earn you credits, Id give you my email. But since your attitude is so crappy, you dont deserve that credit, in my opinion. The other staffs were much friendlier and helpful, hence the 2 stars instead of 1. I would come back again, but Id avoid her if I can help it.

I will not be going to this petsmart anymore because i bought a coupon book from them and an employee there told me and my husband that we could use the coupons there even if they said they were for puppy, since my even isnt a puppy anymore, then we went back and tried to use the coupon and they said they couldnt use it and she acted like "oh i cant remember saying that" "we cant use those its the new policy" and the other employees helping us had an attitude also. And i wont be going to the Banfield there either because the people on the front desk are pretty rude and the vets dont seem to care or know what theyre doing, they never notice anything! and they never call to give us appointments or anything! I do not recommend going here specially to Banfield.

Although this is my go to place for pet supplies (hardly any other options nearby), I really feel they could do a whole lot better. I made appointment for my dog at Banfield, they cancelled my dogs appointment on me, not once, but twice with no explanation. The grooming facility is sketchy too, I will not take my dog there because I heard a groomer calling a small Yorkie cuss words and being hard on the tether as she moved it around. Too pricy for groom, groomers have attitude, and Petsmart employees are either caught up with ten other people or frustrated when helping because they arent getting their stocking done. Banfield was sloppy with all the cancellations and lost my potential service after that.

Gurnee petsmart has some of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to pet care and products. I will never go to another large pet care retailer. Ive encountered horrid conditions of the animals in other places, and no real knowledge of the product. Petsmart has all of the competition beat in product knowledge and the conditions of their pets. I appreciate their honesty;theyre not just trying to sell a product. They also keep the animals theyre selling healthy and well cared for. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the prices of their products. Its about triple the price on amazon, and in many cases, the product bought from amazon at a lower price, also lasts much longer.
