I thought this place was good until recently when i took my pet budgie in for a visit. It wasnt nearly a visit as m uch as it was a frightening thought of losing her. She had a prolapsed cloaca due to chronic egg laying. slightly after i walked into the building, they took my bird straight to the back (much to my hesitation) to put her in the heated lab cubbies as (claustrophobic as they seemed). My bird seemed to be acting very different from how she was in the house, obviously much worse. shortly after, the doctor tells us that she has no chance to survive and that we should consider euthenasia and surgery would be another option but too expensive for us so we should probably not even consider it. .As people having certain financial situations, it seems ruthless almost to turn away a family who hope for even the slightest chance of thier pet parakeet to live. Not even some little way of working things out with thier patients in terms of finances and the lives they were destined to "save" thru vet school? it seemed highly plausible but ruthless. I guess this is het reality of most institutions. However, i do not ask for free treatment but merely an act of empathy from the staff especially the doctors at charge and also a way of working things out. This was even before i explained my case, introduced myself my situation or anything. I understand if things are critical but theres a right time to say it or a way to say it. The doctor was very blunt and it felt like she had no concern or slightest empathy for me. As i was there crying my eyes out, it just felt like the staff was not any more remorseful. She died after 2 surgery attempts. The first one was one in which they tried to put it back into her system and she had survived. However, after the doc came back to tell us to seriously consider euthenasia (something im against). she came back shortly after the first try which seemed like there was no attempt at all to reveal she had passed. It was scary and utterly depressing but the worst was when im given my bill and told that i have to pay not only the fees for the surgery but also an additonal visit fee. In the end, i asked for only 60 of the big 300 to be waived and it was denied! I felt this was inexplicable behavior and shows the truly insensitive nature of the "business". It seems its not abotu the tiny life your holding but the money. thats what i learned at least.

Weve been going here for over five years after numerous other vets. Heres what youll get with Dr. Ness: 1. Time for discussion, questions, etc. (unless there are emergencies unfolding) 2. Honest discussions about options for diagnoses and treatment. Hell usually lay out what hed like to do and let you choose based on your comfort level and the cost. 3. Assurance that his recommendations are done for medically appropriate reasons and not to raise your bill. There have been many times where Ive said, "Im a little strapped for cash, what can you recommend?" and hell prioritize the diagnoses and treatment options. 4. A good feeling when youve left. Ive NEVER left Ness shrugging and saying, "Well that was a waste. What now?" Ive always felt that my money was well spent. Even if there hasnt been a firm diagnosis when weve left, there have always been appropriate tests so that we know answers are coming AND some treatment in the meantime. I cannot tell you how often it happens at other vets where youre in and out multiple times before they figure out whats wrong and what to do. I cant tell you how many times Dr. Ness has prescribed something like antibiotics (just in case), and turned out to be right when the results came back- and during the day or two wait weve been doing something positive for our pets- and likely saved their lives. So please, go to Ness. I personally like Ness and Golan best, but he hires good doctors. Also, remember that timely visits and up-front spending save you big in the long run. If I see him within 24/hours and spend a few hundred dollars, I will usually save having to go in later and do emergency care.

In April of 2015 thats when my saddness/nightmare begin. I took my 2 rabbits to get spayed here. 1 of my rabbits came back with a fracture on the left side of its spine, an L7. For any Vet that is reading this I understand it could happen anywhere, BUT the most IMPORTANT thing to remember in this story is that the vet/tech that did the surgery, did not hold themselves accountable. I brought my rabbit in and she was perfectly fine she came out with a fracture. This type of fracture causes incontinence. Which led to urine scald which I tried to treat with the stuff that another vet gave me and she end up getting an infection. I end up taking her to Chicago exotics which they helped me immensely but she could not fight the infection and in the end I had to put her to sleep. A very expensive 7 months of taking care of her, and had she not gotten the fracture this would have never happened. I loved this little bunny, not only did it affect my life but also she was bonded with her sister and that also changed her life also. Would I take my animals here again... NO I would not! He never held himself accountable for what he did or his staff. Rabbits are very fragile animals, the place where I took her was Summit Vet in Il. Dr. Tracy was great through it all. She wasnt A the specialist but she was trained in old school Western medicine technique and I wouldnt have had her as long as I did if it wasnt for her. R.I.P baby

I was skeptical of small animal vets as I did not know much about them, since most seem to only see dogs & cats. The care my pet gerbil received from Ness Exotic was probably better than any that Ive ever personally received from a doctor. I spent only 5 minutes waiting in the reception area, spoke to Dr. Ness for a good 25 minutes, and then received the medication within 15. I spent >50% of my time at the office speaking directly to the veterinarian. How often can you say that about a human doctor? After the appointment (about 2 days later) I made a follow-up call to the vet, which prompted a return call from Dr. Ness that lasted for another 15 minutes. I almost felt spoiled by the attention they were giving my gerbil. The whole time everyone at Ness Exotics was caring and compassionate. They answered all of my questions and gave me very detailed (and extremely accurate) information. I will continue to see Dr. Ness for all of my exotic vet needs, and I would recommend him to everyone.

Reply to Suh.MI completely feel for you, and I agree the service that was provided for the budgies especially in these type of situations is very unprofessional, and it seems that when a pet is lost, all that is important is what reimbursment or some sort of payment that is involved.... I feel very bad for you and I went throught the same thing as well. I hope things get better for you, and that your budgies rests in peace :) all they care about is getting your money, dont go to them,.. Euthansia isnt the cure to all problems, and when physicians give out information to a patient they should do it in a more calm and humble manner not rash or bluntly from how i perceived it to be.. Dont recommend this place at alll... if you care about your birds well being and future I would resort to going somewhere else... I miss you Blue :(
