MY DOG BECAME BLIND after what was supposed to be a simple oral surgery at the Shiloh Veterinary Clinic. Initially, I took my dog to get her teeth checked out because of severe bad breath. Turned out that my dog would need to get about 7-8 rotten teeth surgically removed, according to Dr. Mears’ examination. On the morning of surgery, I dropped off my dog at the clinic as instructed, anticipating a call in the afternoon for when I’d need to pick her up. However, about an hour later, the clinic’s other vet, Dr. Beltz, called me recommending the extraction of all of my dog’s teeth. The possibility of removing all of my dog’s teeth was not mentioned during the initial visit so I worried about the potential complications and what might result of such an extensive surgery. The doctor assured me that there shouldn’t be any problems, and that it would be the best option for my dog in the long-run. So I agreed to the doctor’s recommendation, under the assurance that my dog will do just fine after surgery. When my dog returned home after surgery, I noticed that something was off about her. She’d walk around the house, but would keep bumping into furniture and other fixtures. At first, I assumed it was because the anesthesia hadn’t worn off and that she’d be fine after a few hours. However, the strange behavior continued for the next couple of days and I took my dog back to the Shiloh Veterinary Clinic a few days shy of her follow-up appointment. The doctor examined my dog, noting the unusual nature of my dog’s problem, and suggested that I wait 2 more weeks and bring her back if the blindness persisted. She said that the blindness might be a temporary side-effect from anesthesia and that my dog should recover after a while according to some article she had read. Well, 2 weeks passed and my dog showed no change, but I did not return to the clinic. Instead, I took my dog to a veterinary ophthalmologist. There, the doctor diagnosed my dog’s sudden decrease in vision to most likely have been brought on by severe stress, possibly worsened by the effect of anesthesia. He declared that my dog’s blindness is untreatable. I believe the aforementioned severe stress that my dog experienced was from extracting all of her teeth during one surgery. My story is a warning to all pet-owners not to take your lovely pet to the Shiloh Veterinary clinic. Your pet could be next one coming out of the clinic with blindness.

DID NOT LISTEN TO US! My cat has a very bad grooming problem. She licks herself to the point she is bald and even scabbing in places. This problem started four months after we got her from the shelter and has lasted a year and a half. We have been to two different vets. The Shiloh vet for the first time is started to happen pretty badly. Dr. Mears said it was flea allergies...Okay maybe. Three flea medications, a flea bomb in the house and no outside time later and she is still licking. And she is not only licking in the summer flea months, but ALL year long. It got to the point recently she started scabbing again. So we took her back in. My husband and I both tried to relay she has very odd behavior on top of the excessive grooming. EVERY single night, as soon as lights go out, our cat has a ritual. She brings a certain toy, wherever it is at, into the bedroom and proceeds to chew on it. While she is doing this, she is making strange meowing noises. She ONLY meows at night. She licks worse when something disturbs her. For example; furniture arrangement, car rides, my work schedule changes. My husband brought up the possibility of OCD caused by stress because she licks herself excessively and her ease of getting freaked out. Dr. Mears response was somewhere along the lines of "Ive seen a cat with OCD before and she licked her arms and her belly. This behavior isnt like that." WHAT??!! It is EXACTLY like that. She has licked herself raw around the tail area and her back. So apparantly to have OCD, your cat has to lick certain areas. I am absolutely disappointed and disgusted with this vet clinic. Not only this issue, but it costs a ridiculous amount just to be told she does NOT have flea allergies or mites and they need to run more tests, aka more money for them. I will NEVER take my animals here again.

We took our dog here, who had been itching and had diarrhea. The veterinarian said he had allergies and proceeded to prescribe our dog FIVE medications and an additional over-the-counter human medicine. All of this costing us more then our friends total bill for their dog having surgery. So after our dog took all this medication, I noticed his inital symptoms had not improved AT ALL. So I started researching on google some of his symptoms and I discovered our dog had mange, and NOT allergies. So I took our dog to another vet, which sure enough said he had the very obvious signs of mange and an intestinal issue where our dog was prescribed the proper medication. The only problem was this happened about 1 month after I saw this vet, and his horrible diagnosis, and our dog never recovered. We had to put him to sleep at 10 months old. We spent over $600 dollars at this vet, to have nothing fixed and to have our poor dog continue to suffer. My husband and I are still devastated from this. If you love your dog, do not take it to this vet.

I think the Shiloh Vet Clinic and their staff and Dr. Mears are amazing! They have been there for me for all kinds of situations. We are military and my husband was K9 so we adopt retiring K9 dogs and they have been a handful! Dr. Mears has been fantastic with all of them and taken excellent care of our dogs!!! We had to put our beloved Freckles down about a year ago and they were so gracious! Even made a paw print for me to keep and remember him by! We now have a new puppy and they are taking excellent care of her too! I wouldnt take my dogs anywhere else!

This is the best vet I have ever taken my dogs to. Being in the military I have moved a lot with my dogs and they have been to several vets. Dr. Mears is by far the most personable and professional. One of my dogs has epilepsy and requires more trips to the vet than most and we always leave happy. The staff is excellent and my dogs love everyone there. They are always happy to answer questions and are extremely helpful. I hope to never move again so my dogs can stay with Dr. Mears and his staff.

I brought my border collie here to be fixed and get some required vaccinations. Overall, I like them. Very friendly staff. My dog is aggressive toward new people, but they handled him well and did not require him to be muzzled. Id give it five stars except it is just so expensive. If you are on a budget, Id not bother. We have been there 3 times now I think and never get out for less than $100. His neutering was very costly. But they are knowledgeable and skilled, so you get what you pay for.

Our dog had infected anal glands, and they got us in right away and were super friendly and helpful. Other reviews mention the price...I didnt have a chance to price check other places and havent ever had to spend much on our dog but the price didnt seem too bad. Dr. Mears seemed very knowledgable and honest and didnt push other services in an annoying way even though I know my dog definitely needs her teeth cleaned. :)
