The nurses at the hospital are very kind and nice, however, if you have a parent that ends up being sent to their geriatric psych ward, be aware that one of their visitng Doctors, Jill Zinner will be more concerned with her medical liabiltiy than her patient. My mother who suffers from demntia and alzhiemers was sent there by the assisted living facility she was at after 5 weeks due to her having outbursts and becoming combative as it was described to me. The first drug Dr. Jill Zinner prescribed for my mother was Geodon. I did some research on this drug and found it was an anti pyschotic drug will clear warnings that it was not recommend for patients with dementia or alzhiemiers as it could lead to death and other side effects. I called her immediatley and asked that she be taken off it. They then put her on a different drug. To make a long story short, Ms. Zinner informed me during a phone conversation when she finally got around to calling me back about my concerns about how to get my mother discharged, I was told in her words that she made the decison not to discuss my mothers medical conditon with me any longer because her main concern was her medical liabiltiy and that I was in denial about my mothers condition and I should go to the web and read up on alzhiemers. She also said that because I made them take her off the Geodon that now it was going to take longer and she did not know when she would discharge her. She also informed me that there are no FDA approved drugs for alzhiemers and dementia so she was free to prescribe whatever drugs she chooses not matter the side effects. She was dismissive and condensending and familes having to deal with this horrible and heartbreaking disease have enough stress to deal with and should not have to be left feeling helpless to help their own mother. All familes have problems and mine is no exception, my mother had left me in charge of her affairs along with medical power of attorney way before she got sick. My brother after my mother was diagnosed with dementia found an attorney that was able to manipulate my mother into signing a new one giving him medical power of attorney. Since she was with him at the time in a different state, I left it because I felt that in an emergency he needed to be able to make a decision, however, I did not think it would be used by a doctor to keep me from my mother. Again, Dr, Zinner made the decision, not my brother who did not have a problem with my being invovled with her medical decisions. It seems that the elderly have no rights and all some Doctors want to do is isolate them and medicate them until they can control them. It is very sad and I just wanted this information out there for any other familes that are going through this painful process that they may want to request that Dr. Jill Zinner not be the Doctor assigned to their family member, as her main concern is not the patient. I suppose they are all just numbers to her, just another walking disease instead a human being. It is my understanding that Dr. Jill Zinner is not a staff member of the hospital but an outside visiting physcian.

The hospital itself is great, and the service and care I received was beyond compare. Unfortunately, the cost associated with that care was unreasonable. I was bit by my cat one evening, went to bed, and woke up to a throbbing pain in my hand. My hand was swollen and turned out to be infected. After consulting a veterinarian, I went to the hospital for care. There was no wait and I was immediately seen by a doctor who gave me a shot and a sort of half-cast wrapped in gauze. The entire process took around 15 minutes. I was instructed to keep my hand immobile for a week and take some antibiotics which I filled at a drug store. Before leaving the hospital I spoke with a person wheeling a mobile cart around who wanted to settle the bill. That was fine and I was prepared to pay. They were unable to confirm what my insurance would or wouldnt pay (HSA), so I paid $250 on the spot. I was hoping it would wind up being less than that, but that was my hospital co-pay, so I paid it and left. I received a bill in the mail for another $250 a month later. I thought it was a mistake because it was for EXACTLY $250... the exact amount I had already paid. I did not pay it thinking it was a mistake and it would all get figured out. I eventually received a call about the debt, where I was informed that the total debt was $500. I told the person that I had already paid $250, and the care I received was not worth $250, let alone $500, and I wouldnt pay it. Now my debt is in collections and has affected my credit report. When I initially said that the entire visit took 15 minutes, that was not an exaggeration. They are attempting to charge me $500 for a shot and a water-formed cast. This is unacceptable. This level of care is $2,000 an hour. If you have any option other than this hospital, please take it.

Reid health is one of the worst emergency departments ive ever stepped in! Horrible patient care! One person from lab did not put labels by bedside of my labdraw today! A male nurse today when asked by me if he was going to put gloves on before putting a iv in me! Argued and said that he doesnt normaly wear gloves because the new iv thats out doesnt leak! We asked for HR five times to file a complaint and everytime we got a nursing director! Im now on a trip back to where im currently staying and now in extreme pain becasue i was told they couldnt even give me another dose of tylanol before i left. Im making a 9 hour trip with a possible pendacidis that they couldnot confirm because according to ct everything looked good however the doctor specifically told me that it could possibly be a early onset and get checked back out in 12 hours. I will never i repeat never step back in this hospital after the way the nurse argued with me over wearing gloves for a IV even after being asked by me the patient and told its a personal preference! And after the lab lady argued with my partner when that is a job hes done for years!

My family HAD been going to Reid Hospital for years. I was born there approx 56 years ago. My Mom had to be admitted into Reid in April and found out she has a place on her right lung after they had done a CT scan plus they did other testing. We needed to get her to a pulmonary Dr and we did and found a great one in Dayton. I am POA and on hippa for my Mom. The pulmonary Dr needed her CT scan disc and transcript. Mom is in a nursing home so I proceeded to get the CD disc and transcript for the Dr. Reid hospital would NOT let me have any of them. They said Mom had to go get them. Again I repeated she is in a nursing home. It was TUFF LUCK!!!! RIDICULOUS!!!! I am legal to do whatever it takes to take care of her and Reid wouldnt let me!!! So she had to go thru another CT scan cause of Reid ignorance!!! And by the way CT scans are linked to CANCER!!! She is all ready a double Breast cancer survivor and now she has lung cancer and has to go thru this. Reid you have lost a whole family. CONGRATS Reid!! We will No longer go to Reid Hospital again!!!! Good Luck everyone
