Oh Snap
Quite possibly the rudest nurses Ive ever encountered. Unbelievably arrogant, petty, and worst of all, unprofessional- all of which are very concerning if you or a loved one is in their care. About six months ago, my mother was a patient in the rehabilitation part of the hospital. I should have written this review way sooner, but based on the level of unprofessionalism I witnessed, I was afraid that if I did, these nurses would know it was me and take it out on my mother (who is one of the sweetest people anyone will ever meet, by the way). Some of the nurses are very nice and seem to care a great deal about their patients and the work they do, but the majority Ive encountered are more concerned with riding out their power trip, speaking in diagnostics as though they were doctors (ha...hardly), and in between the occasional "pop-in" check on their patients, sitting around at the nurses station, gossiping with one another (about one another, of course, but also about patients, which is awful) and online shopping. Ive passed by the area where their computers are multiple times, waiting to see if anyone was going to come check on my mother (their patient!), only to find eyes glued to computer screens, scrolling through pages of shoes and clothes on Amazon, idley chattering away unflatteringly about their co-workers, as well as that patient who is still waiting on them to check on her!! It was pretty amazing that these nurses had time to sit there and talk about what a hassle it is to have to clean a patient up (and, yes, nurses, I heard every word you said about my mother), which is part of their job, but they dont have time to actually help clean up the patient!! The other area of the hospital my mother stayed in immediately following her surgery was much better, and had much nicer nurses overall, but something was definitely dysfunctional with the rehabilitation area nurses. As a son who loves his mother very much, I was very glad to be wheeling her away from that place, and I will make sure that any further rehabilitation she needs in the future happens somewhere with much better patient care.

Worst experience of my life. The place was not busy, there were nurses hanging around the hallways chatting about their breaks and about patients, but they told me they were up to their ears in patients as an excuse for how long it took them. I told the same story to no less than 6 nurses, and some of them twice, whose only interest was in trying to blame my husband for my injury even though hes the least violent person I know. They wouldnt take no for an answer, this wasnt a domestic abuse case. Several of the nurses snapped at my husband when he tried to answer some of the questions for me because talking hurt and Id said it all a dozen times. They took x-rays of the wrong area even though I clearly indicated where the problem was. An hour later, they took x-rays of the right location. It took them 3.5 hours before they gave me anything to help with the pain, and even then they forced me to walk around the hospital wearing a heart monitor to check if my heart rate spiked (indicating pain) because they didnt believe me, even though I told them that I had blacked out twice already. The doctor had no idea what was wrong, I doubt she did more than glance at my x-rays, I am seeking a second opinion. She gave me 3 medications for various symptoms, all with codeine in them so I cant take them together. Her description of which ones I could take together was incorrect according to the product labels. I told my husband Id rather bleed to death taking the extra few minutes getting to St. Joseph than ever come back to this hospital again. I wasted a lot of money and time with these people, and the only even slightly sympathetic person in the building was the guy who took my x-rays. The entire staff at this hospital needs to go through an inspection and review on patient care.

The ER is terrible ,they need to do a better job I just wish that the would have to go through what we went through 5 times to have it miss diagnosed and way over 24 hours of waiting in the ER lobby thats the time you wait before you go back and see a doctor to have them say if you where my parents I would send you home that happened twice we had to come back in the next day and do I all over again The next day when you are sick that makes you sicker ,as a husband I felt helpless frustrated angry ,we made at least 4 trips to the ER that should of been way less than that especially when we where telling them what we thought it was but they are the doctor they know better than us ,but not this Time the last trip to the ER started at around 4 pm the day after being already being there getting into seeing someone at around 10 pm finally got through to someone to look deeper made a trip to Indianapolis around 2am surgery@ 7:30 am 2.5 hours away from home with no care at all for the spouse for 7 days on limited income forced to sleep in a chair for 7 nights I could go on there were lots more

Yesterday was 6 years since the trauma center told me to say goodbye to my son! "He wouldnt be there in the morning " Im sitting next to him as I write this. I recently requested copies of his records for my own files, he does have a traumatic brain injury but he has come much farther then the trauma staff even thought. In the report the neurologist said he was sent to a nursing home because I was unable to care for him. They never even asked, I took him home after 8 weeks there. Then the discharge papers said he was weight barring, they never tried to get him out of bed. Then they kept calling him Erica, finally found out his SS papers had the wrong gender! You could of asked. Now the reaal kicker; ONE NURSE SAID TO ME.....DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH HES COSTING THIS HOSPITAL? Now I have to write a separate review about the 9th floor. They were aesome! Same goes fir the valet service, lovedall of them♡ But before I end I cringe when I hear someone was flown to SBM

My mom was taken to the ER and later admitted to the tenth floor with severe confusion and vomiting. Dr King was wonderful, sensitive and competent; he found that she had advanced stage ovarian cancer. I have nothing but good things to say about all the staff that took care of my mother for the next 8 days, from doctors and nurses to CNAs and environmental staff. They were patient with Mom and took so much time with us, addressing our concerns and questions and caring for her in a compassionate, efficient manner. Despite the construction and add ons and general inconveniences of the building itself (paying for parking was one!) I would confidently recommend Memorial hospital to anyone and would go there myself in a minute. St Joe may have a newer facility but to me the people make the place, and they certainly did.

My mom had a brain tumor removed and spent a night in ICU...she complained that the workers were slamming doors and jamming the music all night long, and it kept her awake. How disgustingly unprofessional is that, and non-compassionate, and a total lack of respect for the patients who are in critical care. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You are in this profession to take care of people and to make them feel at ease, not to add additional stress to the load they already have. I demand that management and the hospital administration look into this, and hold the workers who did this responsible for their actions. Im totally discouraged and disgusted that my mother told me this... she has enough going on, fighting cancer, and fighting to live, and THIS is how you act in the ICU? SHAME ON YOU ALL.
