Ingersoll Animal Hospital is situated at 3009 Ingersoll Ave, Des Moines, IA 50312, USA. The hospital operates from 7 AM to 6 PM on weekdays and closes at 12 PM on Saturdays. The facility is closed on Sundays. The hospital has a rating of 4.6, indicating a generally positive reception from its clientele.
Some customers have expressed concerns about the hospital's approach to billing. They feel that the hospital tends to recommend additional services that significantly increase the overall cost. For example, a simple procedure that should cost around $25 could end up costing an additional $300 due to suggested tests and treatments. This has led some clients to seek services elsewhere due to budget constraints.
The hospital has been criticized for its lack of handicap accessibility. Despite assurances from the staff that the facility was accessible, one customer found that there were multiple steps both outside and inside the building, making it impossible for them to enter in an electric wheelchair.
On the positive side, many customers have praised the quality of care provided by Ingersoll Animal Hospital. They appreciate the thoroughness of the veterinarians and the genuine concern shown by the staff. Some have been long-term clients and have expressed satisfaction with the diagnostic skills and treatment options provided.
The hospital has also been lauded for its ability to handle special cases, particularly those related to allergies and long-term conditions. One customer mentioned that their dog, who had severe allergies, showed significant improvement within two months of treatment at the facility.
In addition to medical services, the hospital offers grooming services that have received positive reviews. Customers appreciate the quality of grooming and feel that the staff involved are passionate about their work.
The hospital is noted for its community involvement, particularly its support for local animal charities and in-office adoptions sponsored by the Animal Rescue League.

I have been taking my cats here for years. For the most part I am very happy with their care. But I have one big complaint. Every single time we come in, no matter what its for, they try to get me to pay for another $300-500 of services on top of what I am there for. A couple years ago I wanted soft paws put on my bigger cat. He was grumpy, so they recommended we do a blood panel and anesthesize him to put them on. Turning a $25 job into another $300 dollars on top of a $200 appointment. I passed on their offer. This year I wanted to get said bigger cat into therapy for weight and pain. The consult appointment I was told would be no less than $150, which is fine, but she kept insisting that it is not an accurate quote and that I would have to wait until their yearly appointment to get a most accurate, but still not firm, quote. As I get paid only once a month from VA disability and I have to do my budget for the entire month before hand and the receptionist just wasnt being sensitive to this no matter how many times I told her this. She also then added that it was likely that I would also have to pay another 175 in x-ray costs, all before they could even do anything positive for him. I could not get follow up appointment information either. It is for this reason that I have chosen other facilities for that care for my pet. And if they ever have larger issues I will be forced to change vets. Because they simply are not sensitive to my budget limitations. And its pretty crappy when you have limitations, you want to do well for your pets, and you feel like your vets office sees you as an ATM. Im not blaming the doctors. But it is frustrating. I only took one star off because I am not displeased with the medical received thus far.

Ingersoll Animal Hospital has pleasant staff and great service, but handicap accessibility is a huge issue. I am in an electric wheelchair, and my mom called in an hour or two before our appointment to make sure I could get in. The secretary said there was a step up, but otherwise, there wasnt a problem. Thats kind of annoying, but not a huge problem, as I have a 5ft. ramp. When we got there, we found three steps outside, plus a staircase inside, which wasnt even mentioned during the phone call. I couldnt even get in the building; I had to sit in the van while my mom brought our puppy in to get her shots and wellness check. Additionally, this place seems intent on getting money in whatever way possible. Spaying is just ridiculous, and even though my next appointment is in just a few weeks, the clinic is demanding another wellness check. The only reason I can possibly think of for this is to drive my bill up.

I, like most pet owners, would do just about anything for my furbaby. When I take my pet to Ingersoll Animal Hospital, I have every bit of confidence that their caring staff of office personnel, techs, and veterinarians care as much about Stella as I do. The vets take time with her, thoroughly explain everything they are doing, address any concerns I may have, and provide practical tips for follow-up care. I appreciate their expertise in animal care and humble nature as people who love animals as much as I do. I would recommend Ingersoll Animal Hospital to anyone who seeks affordable, thorough, and genuine care for their pets. They make me feel like Stella and I are their number one priority each time we go in. Hands down the best animal care facility in the Des Moines metro!

Entrusting your pets with Ingersoll Animal is the right decision to make! I have been an IAH client for 20 years and they have been extraordinary care givers for my past and present cat kids. I appreciate that they explain options for my pets’ care and treat each one with such compassion. Their incredible diagnostic skills and care have given me additional quality time (in some cases several years) with multiple pets, something I can’t begin to thank them for. They continually offer updated veterinary techniques which ensures me I am getting my “tribe” the best possible care. I love that IAH gives back to the community by sponsoring ARL in-office adoptions and supporting other local animal charities. Thank you soooo much to Dr. Peterson and the entire staff!

My sweet Kona was turned away from another Vet because they had tried everything for her allergies. She is only two so the thought of her being miserable for the next 10 years broke my heart. This photo doesnt quite show how severe her allergies were. She had sores all over from itching and didnt have hair on most of her body. I decided to make an appointment with Ingersoll Animal Hospital to get another opinion. In just two months, our dog finally has hair and isnt miserable itching all day. All the redness and sores are completely gone. I really want to thank everyone at Ingersoll Animal Hospital for taking on this challenge and sticking with us to find a solution.

We’ve been going to the Ingersoll Animal for nearly 15 years and would highly recommend it. My dogs love it because they are treated like rock stars by the entire staff. I love them because they seem to be just as concerned about my dog’s health and happiness as I am. They patiently answer every question I have (and check to see if I have more), thoroughly explain the different treatment options, willingly go the extra mile when the traditional treatments don’t work, tell me what to watch for when we leave and they do a wonderful job with follow-up. I completely trust them with the health and care of my pets. -gail ramberg

When my sweet puppy Chica got stepped on accidentally I took her to Ingersoll Animal Hospital. She was in there for a few weeks while they took care of her. I was allowed to come and visit her whenever I wanted and they were so friendly. The Drs and Staff truly loved Chica and they would tell me in detail about her days there; what procedures and her activities. That being said considering how long she was in there...they worked with me on a payment plan. I would strongly recommend taking your animals to Ingersoll if you are looking for a trustworthy place to take care of your loved pet family members!

I love this place! When we relocated to Des Moines, we went to a different vet recommended by our previous vet. While that office was great, it was a little far. We first came to Ingersoll after being refered to the groomer by someone whose opinion we valued after being disappointed with other groomers. We love the grooming and made a full switch for all our critters. The groomer and vet office even worked with us when we rescued another dog on behalf of our breed club, and we work with Newfoundlands!

Love the groomer!! I used to take my dog to one of the larger pet stores for grooming and never knew what he would look like when he came out. I started taking him to Ingersoll Animal Hospital about a year ago and love it! He always comes out with a great groom and looks adorable. The location is actually less convenient than where I took him previously, but it is worth it. I feel like the groomer loves what she is doing and does a wonderful job. I would highly recommend!
