I would have went back had I not received a letter and two phone calls about my dead cat. When I asked my mother to take my sick cat in to get her checked out on a Friday I had no idea that it would result in her death. Now it wasnt the vets fault and I understand that. But what makes me not want to return is the "friendly" letter I received addressing my cat to talk to her "mommy and grandma" about returning and if I had any questions about the prognosis to give them a call. The prognosis I received from the vet is that she wouldnt survive the weekend. The letter was mailed on Monday and I received it on Thursday. Then the next day I received a phone call asking how she was doing. When I said I had to put her down because she had been getting worse I was told by whomever had called that she had just gotten back and my cats name was on her list. Not only that but I was hurried off the phone when I asked if a mistake had been made with the prognosis of my cat. About 20 minutes later I received another phone call from the same person stating that it wasnt their fault as I did not take her there to get put to sleep. Now I understand the letter is just a standard thing they do and the phone call would have been appreciated had the prognosis been my cat just needed medication or something else but the prognosis was my cat was going to die. Kidney failure and was expected to not last the weekend. For principle alone I would not recommend this place. Im not saying this place is horrible and treats your animals poorly but just the fact that they dealt so coldly with "mommy" after losing her precious fur baby is appalling. I dont care if a letter had come or a phone call had been placed but no condolences were given for losing my pet. No one researched the prognosis to realize that most likely the animal in question had already passed.

Our family moved to West Des Moines 21 years ago and we brought with us our beloved elderly dog. He was frail and we wanted to make sure we found just the right veterinarian for him. One of our new neighbors at that time highly recommended Grand Avenue Veterinarian Hospital. He said he would not take his precious elderly dog anywhere else. We took our dog to them and never looked for any other place for him to receive his care. For the rest of his life and the lives of our two additional precious dogs, the entire staff at Grand Avenue have treated our beloved pets and us with kindness, caring, dignity, respect and professionalism. Everyone at Grand Avenue are now family to us and we will be forever grateful to them for the love they have poured into our pets and us. This is not just a job for them it is a great service of love. Thank you to the entire staff at Grand Avenue. Mark and Jane Riggins.

LOVE Grand Ave. Vet Hospital! The staff is so kind and caring and delight in each and every pet whether its a barn cat or a special breed of dog. They showed the greatest empathy when we had our 16 year old cat put to sleep. And now we have 3 dogs who are patients at Grand Ave. and have received loving and expert care. Our daughter takes her cats to Grand Ave. too and recently took in one of her cats because he was going to the bathroom on a carpet, not in his litter box. When the Dr. couldnt find any physical reason, she talked to my daughter about behavioral and environmental issues that might be affecting the cat and gave helpful suggestions. In the end, the Dr. didnt charge for the appointment because it was a behavioral issues. So nice!

I have been with Grand Avenue Veterinary Hospital since 1995 when I first came to Des Moines. I have stayed because the doctors, techs and staff are now my family, that is how extraordinary they and the clinic are; its a second home.. They love my animals every bit as much as I do. I came to them with a single cat. They cared for her until she turned 19! Over time, working with my vet and the ARL, the Hospital and I came to care for 12 cats and dogs; they were rescued, cared for, loved and, some, eased out of life when their time had come. From birth to death, this is the only place I entrust with my cherished animals. Good judgment, loving care, strong friendships, amazing technology and skill and the biggest hearts on planet earth.

Ive moved and switched vets a fee times and Grand Avenue Veterinary Clinic is by far my favorite. I took my cat to Jordan Creek Animal Hospital to address and issue with my cat pooping on the floor daily for over 6 months. Jordan Creek only wanted to talk me into the $300+ teeth cleaning and not address the pooping issue. When I went to Grand Avenue Veterinary Clinic, they listened, they cared and without trying to up-sell anything, we fixed the problem. They are compassionate, my cat is relaxed when were on the office and I can tell everyone who works there has a deep passion for animals. I recommend Grand Avenue Veterinary Clinic to anyone who wants good care, healthy pets and a "mom & pop" feel - not a nickel-and-dime ya feeling.

Dr. Robinson and the staff are fantastic. I adopted one of my cats through the ARLs Grand Ave extension and have taken him back for his vet visits since May 2013. The staff recognizes me when I come in and know my kitty by name; theyre always excited to see him. Dr. Robinson is very thorough when giving him his annual exam and puts up with my excessive talking. She and the rest of the staff go out of their way to figure out any issues that arise with either of my cats health. I always know my cats and I will be treated well when we go to Grand Ave.

Kind and caring staff. Dr. Robinson takes her time with both our dogs and with us to explain things. She has been our guide through sickness and health with our dogs. She was a real advocate for one of our family dogs when she learned that a breeder and a breeders vet had overlooked some serious health problems with a puppy. We have used Dr. Robinson and her staff for years and even though we are moving to rural Waukee in a few months, we will continue to bring Kinnick and the other family Berners to Grand Avenue Veterinary Hospital.

I have been bringing my two cats Cosmo & Luna to Grand Ave for about a year and 6 months. Dr Wauhob has always been so friendly and informative. When we learned my sweet Cosmo has an enlarged heart, Dr Wauhob was very kind and let me know every option I had with his long term medication (while keeping my budget in mind). I feel at ease knowing I have a vet so close and one that Ill always answer my call if I need something. The staff at Grand Ave Veterinary Hospital are of the utmost character and truly love animals.

I have very much enjoyed our experience here with our first puppy (now 3 months old). The staff is friendly and very helpful. The vet is knowledgeable and great at answering all my new-puppy-mommy questions. My fur-baby, Gryffindor, is always excited to see the staff when he comes in. They play and he loves the attention and of course the treats. :) Im looking forward to coming here for a long long time with my Gryff baby. Definitely recommend this vet. Cheers!
