On 7/18/09, psychopath Donny Truitt (for whom Ive done nothing but good) torched my house & killed 4 of my 7 cats. At the scene (MOST HORRIFIC experience of my life), I found out that some of my cats were alive, so my BF called BEBT to tell them that wed be bringing the survivors to them. Within an hour or so, firemen were able to find 2 of my babies, & we immediately rushed them to BEBT. When we arrived, I was told by the staff that, when she heard about the catastrophe, Jenn Berger said, "Who? Please tell me its Lester! It HAS to be Lester!" Luckily, she was correct. Lester is apx. 15, my eldest, & my baby (chronologically he is anything but). Lester’s one of their *first* patients when they just had an unfinished basement, a metal table, & a few pieces of equipment. If it werent for them, Lester wouldn’t be purring up against me today. Allan rushed in to check out my two cats (Lester & BB). Jenn quickly followed. I’d been holding in as much pain as I could, but, when she came through the door, saw me, & quickly came up to hug me, all the sorrow rushed out. She hugged me & told me how she shared my pain; I knew she was completely sincere. She knew how my heart was breaking, felt the loss that I was (and still am) feeling, & asked about my other cats. Unfortunately, only 2 of BEBTs patients were alive. The 3rd, Ninja, not a former patient, was still missing. A week later, I found Ninja in the burnt-out shell of home. When I brought him into BEBT, the staff immediately cared for him as if their own. Due to a fever, he stayed at BEBT, although I wanted to keep him with me. I wasnt going to risk taking him immediately home. The BEBT staff kept me constantly informed about his progress. They also (jokingly) threatened to keep him as everyone was in love! :) If you could hear how the receptionist went on about how the staff was enamored, how Ninja made them all swoon, how much of a lover he is, how good he (A CAT) was in the bath, & how happy he was! When I went to pick him up, I had to wait over 1/2 hour to see him; the staff took that long to say goodbye to him! NOTE: NOT a bad thing; they love him. 2 days later, a check-up call from BEBT. She asked about how Ninja was adjusting & I told her that BB & Ninja were thrilled to be together & playing. She stated that "everyone around here really misses Ninja" & that shed let everyone know he was happy. In a way, I almost think she was disappointed I wouldnt be bringing Ninj back!!! :) However, Ms. HES MINE!! But hed LOVE to visit! RE: veterinary care $: Animals, as humans, have health issues. If you cant afford to give your pet adequate health care, then DON’T HAVE PETS. If you have a pet that you can’t, then dont be so selfish that you cost your pet its life/health. Call BEBT, Pet Central Station, or the animal shelter. FYI: even though Im not wealthy (hell, Im unemployed now), when it comes to my babies, Im willing to go into debt for EXCELLENT health care for them. Wouldnt you do the same for your mother, sister, daughter? If you think that that is comparing apples & oranges, then you SHOULD NOT HAVE PETS!!! I care more about my pets than I do about the amount of money in my bank account. But, hey, thats just me. Id rather starve than let my babies suffer or die of something preventable. Im someone that is struggling day-by-day, but my babies come first, no matter what. In any case, all I can say is that BEBT & the Bergers are SO compassionate, SO knowledgeable, SO loving, SO connected with the animals they treat, that, quite frankly, ANY negative comment I see *must* come from a competing business or from someone who is so devastated from the loss of their pet (which I -completely- understand. Id go into it more, but I would just end up taking up another full screen of space!!) . Anywho, trust BEBT. Take it from someone who knows firsthand. . . JEN: if you read this, contact me about setting up a memorial fund for Gabby, Carma, Alegra, & Mia. Cant afford much, but want to start up a fund for care of pets in need.

Our 2 1/2 year old cat threw up a few times the day before Easter — which is pretty unusual for him — and when he woke me up at 7am the next morning, vomiting bile next to our bed, I knew something was wrong. We called BEBT, they informed us of the $80 emergency visit fee on the phone (quite reasonable, I think), and we brought him in. Initial blood tests showed some dehydration but not much else, and we elected to have him stay at the clinic and receive IV fluids throughout the day. Our original plan was to pick him up that night, but he was still vomiting, and we were given a number of options as to how we’d like to proceed. Dr. Allan Berger was great to talk to and answered every question I had — and I had a lot of them. We chose to have an ultrasound done and were allowed to stay in the room while it was performed. Dr. Berger talked to us throughout, explaining what he was looking for and what the ultrasound revealed. I’ve never had a personal experience like this at ANY other vet I’ve been to. Our cat continued to vomit and receive fluids over night, and when we went to visit him the following morning, we were given more options and never pressured in any way. Again, all of our questions were answered, and after receiving the opinion of multiple clinic vets, we elected to have them perform an exploratory surgery, as my wife and I both agreed it was the best option to definitively diagnose and correct whatever was causing the issue. They performed the surgery that afternoon without complication, calling us immediately after to assure us our cat was recovering peacefully and to tell us that they discovered inflammation on his intestines. His vomiting stopped once they began treatment the following morning, and throughout the next day we were allowed multiple visits (and numerous phone calls for updates). We were always greeted with smiles and answers to any questions we had, and both of us felt comfortable that our cat was receiving the best care possible throughout his entire stay. He was allowed to return home the following evening, and we were given medication and comprehensive instructions for our cat’s recovery. He has since been recovering at home, is no longer vomiting (the biopsied results suggest a food allergy and he is now eating an easily digestible prescription diet without any issues), and will have his staples removed in the coming week. The vets and technicians at BEBT could not have been better throughout these incredibly stressful few days. They literally saved our cat’s life, and we cannot thank them enough.

Normally I dont really review places online, but I was googling the clinic and thought it was odd that they had such a low score, so I thought Id put my opinion out there (I did not intend for this to be a letter but oh well). I love BEBT, and am there too often. I have their number programmed into my phone so I dont have to waste time looking it up in an emergency. Because theyre also an emergency vet clinic, theyre open 24 hours which means I can call with questions (which happens a lot) or to schedule an appointment, which was really nice when I worked odd hours. They are a bit overpriced, but I dont resent them for it. Vets go through the same number of years of training as doctors but dont get the same income rewards, and vet techs certainly dont. BEBT facilities are always clean, and their staff is nice, but most importantly their staff is extremely capable. I never wonder if theyre making stuff up just to seem competent (all vets are not created equal). On a number of occasions my vet (theyre all great but I try to get Dr. Conant when I can) has corrected a tech on how best to hold down my struggling lab (he does not like having his temperature taken) and just otherwise shown in unexpected ways that she knows what shes doing. My dogs golden retriever pals (he has more friends than I do) also go here and their owner is satisfied as well, and I know shes protective of her babies. The only thing I dont like is before I had chosen a regular vet, they would switch me between vets a lot, and it would seem like the one I was with had never looked back at my dogs file to see what the other vets had treated him for/found. This was for the most part rectified by choosing to just see one member of their staff. I think they try to let patients set their own schedules, so they just give you the vet thats available at that time, instead of assigning you to a regular staff member. I understand most of their clients probably prefer that, but if youre like me and you dont just request who youd like to see and understand you may have to adjust your own schedule. As for the price, just make sure to purchase any prescriptions and extras you can at a pharmacy elsewhere, if youre looking to save. Like I said though, its not like they make a huge income so if you wanted to support a local small business and you can afford to, purchase it there. When it comes to the service itself I think its worth a little extra for the value of what youre receiving.
