My two pugs (9 months & 3 months old) get the BEST care at Edgewood Animal Hospital. The entire staff is always so happy and welcoming. We see Dr. Bruce Ennen and we just love him. He is kind and gentle and very comforting. His "pet bed-side manner" is wonderful. He explains everything he is doing and everything he plans to do, and why it is beneficial. He understands deeply how much pet parents love their pet babies. When my older pug dislocated his little elbow when he was only a few months old, he was seen at a different vet clinic where the lead DVM there suggested we just amputate his leg! This clinic didnt have the resources to do x-rays or in-depth internal exams. She said that the cost of trying to fix his leg would be a lot, so we should think about just removing the leg! We were mortified upon hearing that advice and we immediately switched vets. We came to Dr. Ennen and he and his CVTs did x-rays and put a splint on the injured leg. Within a few short weeks, my little pug was completely healed and it was a very successful treatment. And the little splint was pretty cute. They changed the bandage color each time we got a check-up. It was so obvious and so easy for Dr. Ennen to treat my little baby with a splint. Well never go back to the first vet. We are also very fond of Nicole Ortz at EAH. She is a CVT and a very experienced trainer. We took a puppy obedience class from her, which was very reasonably priced, and the results were great! Ive heard about a lot of people not enjoying/not learning anything from the obedience classes at the big name pet stores in Cedar Rapids, mostly because the "trainer" was actually just a store employee, or just not knowlegdeable enough to be leading a class. This was not the case with Nicole. We got personal attention every class and Nicole is very knowledgeable and experienced with dogs and dog training. The facility is clean, organized, and inviting. There are even TVs in the exam rooms! All the staff-- reception, techs, CVTs, and DVMs are great people. I dont know if they just love my pugs or if theyre this nice to everyone, but theyre always smiley and happy to see us. 5/5 stars, every time!

My vet told me my dog, Ellie, might have cancer. My vet doesnt have the technology to do xrays at his facility so he told me to take Ellie to a place that can so i can see whats going on and if she truly does have cancer. After reading reviews I decided to try Edgwood Animal hospital. When i called to make an appointment I told them the situation with Ellie and that she might have cancer. I said that she needed xrays so we can see her lungs and see what is going on. I was told that they will put Ellie on chemo right away and discuss further treatment options after. I explained that I do not know if Ellie has cancer for sure and thats why she needs xrays taken. I was then told they will not do xrays or tests on her and she needs put in for treatment right away, no testing needed and that was what they were going to do no matter what i said. I obviously did not take my Ellie to this place. Edgewood clearly does not care about animals and is all about money! They were wanting to put my dog on chemo not knowing if she even had cancer! That is so sad!! Do not take your animals to this place. I ended up taking Ellie to Frey Pet Hospital in cedar rapids and they were beyond wonderful! They did xrays right away and Ellie does NOT have cancer!! She has some problems with her airways in her lungs but its not cancer. The people at Frey Pet Hospital were so caring and informative and Ellie adored the people there and she was very comfortable there. If you want to take your animals to a great vet, go to frey pet hospital ! You will not be disappointed!

We had a horrible experience! Don’t trust these Dr.’s!!! They care about money and NOT animals!! My first job was working with Dr Geodekin there years ago then after I graduated from college with a degree as a veterinarian technician I returned and worked there briefly with him as well. This is what I experienced at this vet recently… I adopted an old dog and since he had been there before I adopted him I thought I would take him back there for a checkup and to get groomed. They notified me when I scheduled the appointment that my dog would need a bordetella shot for kennel cough – to protect my dog and others while he is being groomed in their facility. So when I returned to pick him up later that day after grooming he was to have his check up with the Dr before we left. During the check up the young lady Dr was about to administer a bordetella shot to my dog. So I ask her why they didn’t administer this shot upon his arrival early this morning?? And why should I pay for a shot that does no good to my dog now??? You guys failed to protect my dog and every other dog in this facility!!! They just want your money!! I’m sad to think about all the uneducated customers that go there and just get screwed over!! Needless to say that lady Dr was caught off guard with me! I have been a veterinarian technician for many years and this Dr should be ashamed of herself!!

I have taken Zeppelin, our Doberman, in for acupuncture for 3 sessions since his diagnosis with Wobbler syndrome. When he first started he had a hard time urinating and walking due to lack of coordination in his hind legs. He also had significant pain episodes that left him almost unable to move. With traditional medications you could only treat his symptoms and not the underlying cause. We had the option to seek out surgery in Ames, but it was a very costly option that we couldnt afford and may not resolve the problem. I wasnt willing to give up on my dog by putting him down at the age of 6 years old and was introduced to Dr. Hickey for acupuncture. I opted to give it a try. After the first 2 sessions of acupuncture and the use of traditional oral medications (for pain and urination), he had a complete turnaround. I have since taken him off of the oral medications and taken him in for another acupuncture session. He remains capable of doing everything he used to do and is really back to his normal behaviors. I am amazed at how well he is doing and what acupuncture did for him (and will continue to do). I would recommend anyone to look into this option for their pet. It will improve their quality of life at an affordable cost. You wont regret it!

My family has been taking our pets to Edgewood Animal Hospital for many years. My dad used to take our cats there when it was under the previous owner. Since Edgewood has changed ownership, Ive noticed a lot of changes for the better. Edgewood Animal Hospital has pdated its interior so that it is clean and fresh, and the exam rooms have televisions for any in session waiting time. I know that I can get a variety of services from bloodwork to xrays and surgery under one roof. I like that I can choose my veterinarian from their array of talented staff. When I visit Edgewood with Dr. Justina Conrad, I know that my pet is not only going to be treated with care, but that the doctor will take time to answer my questions. I really appreciate that professionals like Dr. Conrad, Dr. Leigh, and other staff value me as a "pet parent", and help me pick the best option for my pets care. Lastly, I want to add that Edgewood is a dog, cat, and even bird(!) friendly veterinary practice that uses up to date animal medicine. They utilize preventative medicinal practices, the staff is friendly and professional, and I am confident that they genuinely care for the well being of our furry (and feathered) friends.
