As a child I had many cavities in my baby teeth and my parents sent me to a dentist that "hit me" when I did something wrong or made noises do to the pain (he never used novocaine, not even to pull a tooth). For years I had to take a tranquilizer whenever I had a dental appointment. No more!! Dr. Laura is aware of my claustrophobia problems, fear of dentists and fear of pain. She is very careful to not "crowd" me or work on my teeth with her face or body too close to me. Every member of her staff is very friendly, caring, and professional. They all know their jobs and do them well. The entire stall understands what is being done to my teeth and encourages questions. Dr. Laura is wonderful!! She is very gentle and kind; I compare her touch to being tapped by "angel wings". She always asks me if I am "okay" at intervals of working on my teeth and is very patient with me. She is up on all of the latest procedures, uses them, and explains them. When procedures costing several thousand dollars have to be done, she is very helpful and patient with the cost and payments. Just a side note: I am elderly and suffer from arthritis in my knees and just got out of the hospital a week before the following incident. Painfully, I walked through the grocery store picking up a huge cart full of food. I was in the checkout line when this very friendly voice said, "Hi, Armella, you look very tired." It was Dr. Laura standing in line at the checkout next to me. I told her of my knee pain and dealing with the trial of walking the aisles of the store. At the checkout I was considering turning the cart over to a grocery employee and just going home without my groceries. Seeing how exhausted I was, Dr. Laura told me she would unload my cart. She proceeded to unload the groceries and looked up at me, seeing how miserable I was, Dr. Laura told me that she was going to follow me home and unload my groceries. SHE DID!!!! At home she started to unpack the bags, but I knew after a short rest I would be able to put away the refrigerator items and the rest could wait. She would not accept payment, not even when I said it would pay for the extended time her baby-sitter had to stay with her kids while she was going out of her way to help me. NO ONE has ever shown me such caring and thoughtfulness. I think this incident speaks well to the wonderful, honest, and caring woman she is, even outside of her dental office. I have had excellent dental care under Dr. Laura, from her wisdom, education, intelligence, smiling and supportive personality, and gentle, kind hands. I highly recommend Dr. Laura and her staff to anyone looking for a dentist. She is excellent!!

Because Marion Dental would be very convenient since it is only about a mile from my home, I called today to make an appointment for my wife and I. In doing so, I learned that Medicaid insurance is not accepted. Unfortunately I was laid off from my job. I am actively seeking another, but in the meantime I was forced to enroll in Medicaid now that it is the law and I can be penalized/fined if I dont carry some type of medical insurance. So, its not my #1 choice for insurance; I know it is not the best insurance by any means, but it is all I have, currently. My wife and I didnt have any insurance for a few months, so are glad to at least have Medicaid for now until I am employed once again. Due to this, we are 7 months overdue for our routine cleaning/exam, so really needing to get it done. We called another office that DOES accept Medicaid, and will be taking our business there. I will have private insurance again, and when I do, I will NOT be looking to switch over to Marion Dental even though it is the closest dentist to where I live. Thank you for nothing, Marion Dental. You really know how to make someone who is already going through a rough time feel like a second class citizen just because Medicaid is the only insurance they have at the moment. :( How dare you? If the government is going to force people to have insurance and it winds up having to be Medicaid, then they should also mandate that all providers must accept it too. I was not at all impressed with your business policy. My wife and I also have 3 children, so we will gladly take our business for 5 elsewhere to another dental practice that doesnt discriminate against people according to what insurance they have. We will also be sure and let our friends know of our experience with Marion Dental. I hope plenty of potential patients read this review and will go elsewhere, based on the principle of the matter. And if you are reading this and your insurance is Medicaid, forget it; save yourself some time and dont even bother giving this place a call.

Two years ago I came to Marion Dental with major, chronic gum disease that Ive battled since I was a teenager. Over a decade ago I had a long and painful graft surgery to reestablish the bone I had lost because of my periodontitis. Unfortunately it was a fruitless effort and it did nothing to regrow my lost bone. I thought this would be a life long problem that would eventually end in tooth loss and dentures. As a bit of a last ditch effort, I decided to try the LANAP procedure offered by Marion Dental and I am SO GLAD I did it!! It was much less invasive and painful than my graft surgery and they did a great job of preparing me for recovery and home care. Last week I went in for my two year post-op x-rays and Dr. Laura was so happy and proud to show me that my bone is indeed happily growing back! She also has officially said I am no longer periodontally involved, which means I can finally get much needed braces and jaw surgery. I am just so thankful for Dr. Laura and all of the awesome ladies at Marion Dental. Their professionalism, commitment to their craft, and personal touch is outstanding. I just cant recommend this practice enough--I plan on being a lifelong patient.

I went into Dr. Lauras office as nervous, upset, and skeptical as I normally am in a dentists office. Newly arrived in Iowa, I had to pick a dentist based on Google and Facebook reviews. I chose Marion Dental because of their awesome reviews. THOSE REVIEWS ARE WELL DESERVED! The dentist and her staff CARE and will do anything to make you feel comfortable (aromatherapy, a blanket because even they know that their office is a little chilly, extra Novocain, etc). I have found that what makes them especially good besides being so accommodating is that they really listen to your concerns. I have told dentists my entire life that I burn through the Novocain fast. She is the only one that has ever believed me. And because she does, I go in relaxed and happy, and the whole experience is even better. I love walking into a dentists office confidant and relaxed! I have to add that Dr. Laura is truly NICE and very funny! Its hard to NOT talk to her, and then she sticks her hands in your mouth and you find yourself wanting her to hurry up so that you can finish talking. :-) Its so nice *not* to dread the dentist!!!!!
