First of all my name is Kim Harris, and my husband, Jeff Harris, referred me to Independence Family Dentistry after receiving such awesome care from Dr. Nakhla and his staff. I needed an immediate appointment after breaking a veneer on one of my front teeth the night before. I called early in the morning and they had me in the office at 10 am so I could get my tooth taken care of immediately. I have never been to IFD. Many times in the past with other dental offices I have experienced a week or two wait before getting an initial appointment, but this was not the case with Dr Nakhlas dental practice. Upon arrival I was greeted with a welcoming smile and a very professional attitude from the receptionist. I was called back to the examination room within fifteen minutes after finishing my paperwork. The dental hygienist, Nicki, was extremely thorough, professional and warm from the beginning of my assessment until I had my procedure done. She went above and beyond to understand my needs and make sure that my needs were entirely understood when telling the dentist my expectations. Before having any dental work done, Sherry, whom is in charge of billing and dealing with the insurance companies came to speak with me regarding my expenses. She gave me an itemized bill of what to expect, and thoroughly explained every aspect of what I was paying for and what the insurance company would pay, She was efficient, friendly and certainly organized. Dr. Nakhla came back and examined my tooth, or missing veneer, and told me that they could replace it asap. I asked if there would be a process beginning with a temporary veneer. I my experience with having veneers on my bottom teeth they usually do an impression of the bottom teeth, make a temporary veneer and put it in place until the lab makes your permanent veneer. Dr. Nakhlas doesnt do this because he can get the procedure done by having the knowledge and equipment to skip the lab stage unless you are not satisfied with the final results of your initial visit. If you are not happy with the end result, he is more than happy to send it out to the lab until you are satisfied. I am so pleased with the result of the veneer that I had replaced. The friendliness and overall experience of Independence Family Dentistry was perfection. IF YOU NEED A GREAT DENTIST, A FEELING OF EASE AT A DENTAL OFFICE, AND A GREAT OVERALL EXPERIENCE FOR DENTAL WORK OR EVEN A SIMPLE CLEANING ...THIS IS WHERE YOU SHOULD VISIT. Thank You, Kimberly Harris

If you visit this dentist and they give you a diagnosis of work needed on your teeth or your childrens teeth, ALWAYS get a second opinion. After what had been our regular dentist no longer accepted our insurance, we were looking for a new dentist. My wife took our children to Independence Family Dentistry because they were conveniently located for us and they accepted our insurance. After the check up and cleaning, they reported to my wife that my 15 year old had 6 cavities and my 10 year old had 5 cavities. They gave her a report as to what teeth had cavities and a estimate/bill for what the cost of fillings and repairs would be. It was several hundred dollars after insurance and they made an appointment to have that work done. Because this had not been in line with the history of our children who very rarely have cavities, we decided to get a second opinion. We requested the bite wing x-rays that Independence Dentistry had taken to be forwarded to us in order to give them to the dentist we used for a second opinion. The x-rays were blurry and illegible. The second dentist was unable to read them and confirm any cavities from the x-rays. After taking new pictures and examining my children in person, his diagnosis was that my 15 year old did not have 6 cavities. She had one very minor one that did not need treated at this time. It just needed to be given extra attention while brushing and checked again at the next years check up. My 10 year old did not have 5. She had 2, however, they were in her baby teeth that she would be losing soon. He said there was no need to fill those cavities only for the teeth to come out. The bottom line is we went from 11 cavities and several hundreds of dollars of out of pocket expense to no necessary action at this time. That is a major difference. Not only did it save us a lot of unnecessary expense, but more importantly, my children were delighted and relieved. They do a very good job taking care of their teeth, and the news they had gotten from the Independence Family Dentist one month earlier was hard on them. I guess people can make mistakes, but again, if you visit this office and you get a diagnosis of work needed, I highly recommend getting a second opinion.

I have never taken the time to write a review before, however, based on my experience I felt compelled to take the time to do so. I have gone to Independence Family Dentistry for years & have always been very happy with the entire staff. Dr. Nakhla & Julie the hygienist are awesome & the dental assistants are tremendous. The entire staff is always, without exception, friendly, professional & extremely competent. Yesterday, they completely exceeded all of my expectations. I woke up with terrible pain in my jaw & called to see when I could get an appointment. Based on the amount of pain I was experiencing, they were able to work me in at 11:30 that same day. After some questions & x-rays, Dr. Nakhla explained that I would need a root canal. He explained all of the reasons the bad tooth was causing pain & suggested that I have the procedure done on the spot. I have heard horror stories about root canals & I wont pretend that it was pleasant because it wasnt. However, Dr. Nakhla explained each step of the procedure as he was going through it. He was extremely thorough & meticulous, making sure that everything was, in his words, "perfect". I am a little sore today, but it is nothing compared to the pain I was in. I would never be excited about a root canal, but if I ever have the need for another, I will not have any anxiety. I drive past dozens of dental offices to get to Independence Family Dentistry & yesterday proved to me that I made the right decision. I was prepared to wait for days to get in, then wait days to have the scheduled procedure performed. Instead I was in & out that day, even though the office was extremely busy. Its good to know that there are people that you can count on when you need them.

Not a good experience here. 3 out of the 4 receptionists were TERRIBLY unfriendly and unprofessional; very bored/tired/slow-moving and would not smile or even show the slightest bit of kindness. The dental assistant who cleaned my teeth was HORRIBLY rude and rough and flossed my teeth like she was trying to torture me, moving my head around and not bracing what she was doing at all. I know it sounds funny, but this is accurate and not a joke. She kept saying rude and negative things, instead of telling me tips on how to improve my dental health. The dentist, Dr. Nakhla, was actually very kind and personable, but beware, he will try to identify even the TINIEST amount of decay as a cavity and try to fill it. They quoted me the prices for filling SEVEN CAVITIES, even though I was only having slight pain in one tooth. I left my appointment there feeling horrible and confused, and I could not understand, as I am 27 years old and have never had a cavity in my life. I got a second opinion from Dr. Bowman in Fort Thomas, and while I did have one small cavity (in the tooth that was hurting me), the other "cavities" were not there. I was shocked that I almost handed over so much money to something imaginary. I also had issues with them not being able to retrieve my insurance information, (which was United Healthcare and a very nice, basic dental plan with no issues whatsoever) and a month after I saw them, they finally called me and left me a very strange voicemail letting me know they had figured out my insurance. The whole experience was really strange and I feel that they are trying to scam people and take their money. Sorry, but I would not go there.
