Every single person we talked to at Skylos left us feeling confident that our dog, Jasper was in the best of hands and would be treated by highly-skiiled and caring professionals. I filled out a request for consultation form on their website on Sunday, July 4th and received an email from a real person that same day ( holiday!) asking me when to call me the following day. She was true to her word and called me when she said she would. During the initial call, she collected information about my dog, his injury, and the contact information for our regular vet. She told me what to expect throughout the entire process (physical examination, post-op recovery information, and even sent me door to door directions to the office)! On the day of the visit, we were taken to an examination room that had a mattress with a new, clean fitted sheet on the floor for Jaspers comfort. He was given high-quality treats by a technician who got some information from us, and then Dr. Hummel came in the room. Jasper LOVED Dr. Hummel from the very start. Dr. Hummel sat on the floor and talked to us while he examined Jasper and let Jasper climb all over him. He had already reviewed the blood test results and the xrays that our veterinarian, Dr. Ashley Barthlow had taken and provided to him. He confirmed that Jasper needed TPLO surgery gently. Dr. Hummel drew diagrams on the pre- and post-surgical knee, and he showed us videos of the procedure. He answered our questions with patience and made sure to explain everything thoroughly. We were also provided with more information about how to prepare our home to make the recovery process easier and safer for Jasper. On the day of the surgery, we dropped Jasper off, and Dr. Hummels staff told us they would let us know when the procedure began and ended. Dr. Hummel called me after the procedure to let us know how it went, and he told us it could not have been better! Hooray! Now the hard part for us, Jasper had to spend the night at the hospital. Skylos shares space with a night-time ER vet office, and their staff is also incredibly nice and caring. I called them a couple of times to make sure that Jasper was okay, and each time they checked on him and told me how he was. They even told me to call them as much as I wanted to through the night. The next morning we got to pick him up. Luckily, Dr. Hummel had told us what to expect, so we had the house ready to keep him comfortable and safe while he recovered. Over the next few months, we had regularly scheduled follow-up visits to make sure Jasper was healing as he should. Dr. Hummel provided us with an exercise plan and asked us to provide him with videos of Jasper walking, trotting, sitting, etc. Dr. Hummel communicated regularly with Dr. Barthlow regarding Jaspers progress. Today, we have our happy, heatlhy, rambunctiously playful dog back. We are even getting ready to resume our agility training soon! Everything about our experience with Skylos and Dr. Hummel was positive and reassuring. They made sure we were prepared for every part of the process and that we were ready and able to provide the after care that Jasper needed. I think the world of Dr. Hummel and everyone at Skylos and highly recommend them!

I have an 8 year old yellow lab, his name is Nugget. When I found out he tore his left ACL, you can imagine how terrified I was. Who would I trust to perform the surgery? How much is this going to cost? How long is recovery? A handful of people recommended Skylos. After I made a couple calls, Skylos was the first office who could schedule a consultation within the week of his injury. The front desk staff, technicians, and Dr. Hummel have all impressed me. Their love for animals is strong. If you walk in with an animal they might get a greeting before you. ;) But seriously, they know how to make you and your animal comfortable. Nugget had no trouble walking into the back for blood work or x-rays. He was always more than willing to be with the staff. During the consultation Dr. Hummel showed me Nuggets x-ray, videos of previous surgeries, gave me a detailed explanation of what to do before surgery, surgery itself, post-operation, and a recovery/rehab schedule. I was well informed and knew he would be in good hands, but still anxious. On the day of surgery, I dropped Nugget off and cried on my way to work… They were going to call me with updates throughout the day. I got a call early afternoon saying that Nugget did great under anesthesia and during surgery. He was out of the operating room and in recovery. He would be there overnight with staff and ready for pick up the next day. I was finally relaxed. I ended up calling before I went to bed just to see how he was doing. They said he was resting comfortably and they would call me in the morning for pick up. The next day we picked Nugget up, he was well-dressed in the camo jammies and so ready to go home! The recovery and rehabilitation period can be exhausting, especially with a yellow lab who has no self-control. On the bright side, they are resilient animals and with the guidance from Skylos Orthopedic Sports Medicine your pet will be stronger than before. We’re now 10 ½ weeks through recovery and making improvements every day. The Skylos staff made this process pain and stress free for me. I was encouraged to call/text anytime with questions or concerns and when I felt the need to do so, the staff and Dr. Hummel always responded promptly. This place is top of the line, they go above and beyond for their clients and patients. I highly recommend Skylos Orthopedic Sports Medicine to anyone with an injured pet!

Thank goodness we found Skylos! Our dog Tippy was born with abnormally bad hip dysplasia and without surgery would not have been able to live a life as full and active as she deserves (shes pretty awesome). Dr. Lotsikas took on her case even though she was difficult, had custom hip implants made and performed total hip surgery on her and the results are amazing. Overall experience: Dr. Lotsikas was never pushing surgery and went over all our options from the very first meeting. These hip surgeries are not inexpensive, but in our case this surgery was worth every dime--but it was really nice that we never felt any pressure. Further, Holly the coordinator was always only an email or call away and she was absolutely fantastic. We even had a kerfuffle with a local pharmacist about medication at 9 pm on a Saturday night and Holly was able to help us. Simply wonderful lady. After surgery the rehab is long and detailed, but Skylos is very clear in what they recommend. We met with a physical therapist a few times to go over some of the exercises which was very helpful. Skylos is the whole deal-- they are there for you and your dog before and after surgery. Tippys increased stamina and mobility is markedly increased and her general happiness is through the roof. Going from a dog that would take a break every ten minutes at the dog park to one that is running circles around the place is really wonderful to see, though the best part is that she should be pain-free for the rest of her life. Really great. I really cant thank Dr.Lotsikas and everyone at Skylos enough.

Im very pleased and grateful to Skylos and their staff for my dog Pudgies recovery! Our dogs hip was dislocated, and unfortunately even after treatment by our local vet his leg wouldnt stay in the hip socket so we made an appointment with Skylos. They were able to see us right away for a consult-to-surgery and emailed in advance several handouts on what to expect. Dr. Hummel took his time and spelled everything out for me. Pudgie had his hip surgery and we were sent home with a detailed plan for recovery. We received follow up calls and emails checking to see how Pudgie was doing. We had two follow up visits with Dr. Hummel, two physical therapy appointments and have done twice daily stretching and muscle building exercises. After only 8 weeks, Pudgie has completely healed and has resumed normal activity. He is practically good as new! Thank you to Skylos, Dr. Hummel and staff for the great quality of care!
